Rating: Summary: Terrible!!! Review: 'The Ruby in the Smoke' is a book that I will never read again! I admit that the first few chapters were quite good, but I'm afraid the rest was not impessive! Sorry, Mr. Pullman, but I do not recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Vey good, but a litlle sketchy on Sally's character Review: I thought that this book was very well written, and very suspenseful. It had a good plot, and a good cast, especially Mrs. Holland. What I did not like was that I never really got to know Sally; her character is still very unknown to me. And in the other two books, she's always changing, and I never know what she will be like next. I think that Mr. Pullman should have developed her more. But otherwise I say that this is a very good Victorian thriller; but I like the Dark Materials Trilogy better, they are some of my favorite books.
Rating: Summary: The Ruby in the Smoke is an awesome book Review: The Ruby in the smoke is my favorite book it is really suspense full the first 4 pages are a little boring but other than that it's great definetly worth reading
Rating: Summary: This Book Rules! Review: I couldn't put it down. Phillip Pullman has written an AMAZING victorian mystery, with a wonderfully brilliant cast of characters -Sara Doherty
Rating: Summary: A RIVITING BOOK WHICH I COULDN'T PUT DOWN Review: THE BOOK "RUBY IN THE SMOKE" HAD ME READING DAY AND NIGHT. SALLY WAS A GIRL THAT I WISH TO BE LIKE, AND THE BOOK IS ONE THAT SHOULD BE READ. IT WILL CERTAINLY LIVE UP TO ALL EXPECTATIONS. MAYBE EVEN BEOYND.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: Just months after her fathers death 16 year old Sally Lockheart receved a letter from the east. It said"Sali, Bware of the seven blessings, Marchbanks will help, Chattum." That note was how Sally found her friend Jim, her lover Fredrick, her real father and the ruby of argarpur. I won't go too far into the story but at the end a little girl, Adelaide Bevan dissapears. To find out where she went read the Tin Princess. AFTER YOU READ THIS BOOK READ SHADOW IN THE NORTH AND TIGER IN THE WELL THEN THE TIN PRINCESS. YOU MUST DO THIS FO YOUR OWN GOOD! =)
Rating: Summary: A very thrilling mystery. Review: This is undoubtedly the best book I have ever read. Pullman's character Sally, is vivedly shown throughout the entire book. I could not put it down!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: After the second paragraph, I was hooked. I would have to say that The Ruby In The Smoke was the most exiting book I have ever read. It was full of surprises and interesting twists in every chapter. The end left me needing to read the next book in the trilogy. The heroine, Sally, was so instantly likeable that I had to know what happened to her. I definitely recommend this book for someone getting a little bored with romance novels or non-fiction
Rating: Summary: Okay Review: Good ending, very suspensful, but why read the beginning of a horribly boring book just for the ending
Rating: Summary: Ruby in the Smoke Audio review. Review: If you like Harry Potter on audio your going to love the new audio version of Ruby in the Smoke. Anton Lesser equals if not surpasses Jim Dale in giving the characters individuality and life. If you like hearing the English accent and done just right for every character, Lesser gets five stars. If your out there Anton, great job and I hope you get the rest of the Sally Lockhart books. The story is great but the opium sections may not be for young children. This book like "His Dark Materials," makes a long road trip fly by.
