Rating: Summary: Great Page-Turner!! Review: I like reading the adventurous books that I can't put down, and this book surely fit my preferences! It is sure to shock and mystify you.
Rating: Summary: Definitely Young Adult Material! Review: I am a librarian at a private elementary/junior high school. I purchased this book based on Pullman's very uplifting series "His Dark Materials." Although this book is well crafted, I was disturbed that Sally eventually solves the mystery by smoking opium. What message are we sending our youngsters? I am also aware that in further books in this series, Sally becomes a young, unwed mother. I'm sorry, but there's no place for this series in my library.
Rating: Summary: A Real Page-Turner! Review: The Ruby was very suspenseful, I couldn't put it down! But I have to say I was somewhat disapointed in the rest of the trilogy. There was one thing in The Ruby that was left unanswered, or maybe I just didn't pick it up, who was Sally's mother? Overall I certainly recommend this book! P.S. If you like The Ruby, definitely read The Golden Compass!
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!!!!! Review: THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. VERY SUSPENCEFUL AND MYSTERIOUS. EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT!!!!! IT CAN BE COMPLICATED TO THOSE WHO AREN'T BOOKWORMS LIKE ME.
Rating: Summary: Everything you ever could expect from Pullman and more! Review: Sally Lockhart is the typical "braver, more sure of herself girl" that no one likes in the book but all the readers like. Pullman takes us into her mind, fantasies, fears, and emotions to help us to understand how untipical Sally really is. The life of Sally Lockhart will thrill the preteen mind, because of its fix on expressing emotion, and the adult mind for Pullmans detail. Anyone in there right mind, and not, will enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Sally's a great role model Review: What I particularly liked about "Ruby.." was how this young woman, Sally Lockheart, is portrayed. She is a teen who likes math...doesn't faint away when the going gets tough...is level headed and a great problem solver. She may be too contemporary for the time era, but I would encourage parents of 12 year daughters (and sons, too!) to read this book (I would imagine they should read the whole series, too, but I am waiting for Book 2, Shadow in the North, so I can't comment on the rest as of yet.)
Rating: Summary: A good book for intense-book lovers! Review: This is an exelent book, though it may not be apropriat for children under twelve or eleven. It is gripping and fast moving, and a good book to stay up late in the night reading. I highly recommend it, it and the other two books in this series.
Rating: Summary: This is a wonderful book! Review: My friend recommended this book to me while I was searching for a good book. She shoved it into my hands and made me read it. Though the beginning was a bit droll, it picked up. I believe that this is a wonderful novel, and recommend it to anyone looking for a good book.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: This book is a fabulous mystery for all teens. Sally is a brave girl who strives to understand the events around her. Well worth the read.
Rating: Summary: One great mystery Review: I loved this book. Pullman sets a great illusion for the reader, and a wonderful backdrop. Pullman also creats a story that goes into two different books "The Tin Princess" and "The Shadow in the North" I'm absolutly thrilled with the intensity of the book, and I'm hoping other authors will follow his foot steps.
