Rating: Summary: The Rag and Bone Shop Review: The neighborhood was in complete awe when Alicia died. Brutally murdered by some stranger. Or was it a complete stranger? The last one to see her was young boy named Jason. Jason was a shy, nearly eighth grade boy. Who wasn't popular but wasn't made fun of. Now unfortunately, Jason is suspected to be the murderer. But the police cannot get the right answers from the boy. So they call an expert interrogator. But will the answers come out? I had many likes in this book. And here are three examples. I liked the author's (Robert Cormier) descriptions and how he would explain things in such detail. I also liked his characters. Each person so unique and interesting. And finally I enjoyed some of his dialogue and scenes. In my opinion he avoided dull boring and all out drab words and replaced them with more meaningful, beautiful and vibrant words. However there were also a few dislikes in this novel. Although he avoided many simple and commonly used words, he would repeat his more meaningful words numerous times which began to be a nuisance. One or two characters had miserable and bland personalities making certain areas in the story quite drab. And at times the author would describe things in such detail that it would ruin the novel. In the end, I would most likely recommend this story to any mystery readers. It is a book that will keep you reading and let you become attached to it. Well I hope you enjoyed my report on the novel The Rag and Bone Shop by Robert Cormier.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling, and exciting book all the way to the end Review: The Rag and Bone Shop is a thrilling roller-coster all the way to the end. It is about a murder of a seven year old little girl and there is only one prime suspect, Jason. Jason is a 12 year-old kid just trying to make it through life. He has no true friends and hangs out with the murder victim. He was the last to see her alive leaving all the blame on his shoulders. They decide to bring in Trent A.K.A the big dog. He is said to make any one confess, but what about Jason? Into part of the suspenseful yet eye-catching book you start to make up your mind about the case. Trent is more than convinced that it was the sinister work of Jason, but how far is he willing to go to get the "truth" out of Jason. The Rag and Bone Shop is a book I highly recommend if you are looking for an exciting murder mystery.
Rating: Summary: The Rag and Bone Shop By Robert Cormier Review: Seven-year-old Alicia Barlett is murdered one day in June. At the beginning of the story, the police are stumped. To the police, this is the perfect murder. There are no clues or leads and only one suspect, twelve-year-old Jason Dorrant. Jason is questioned by police and then is asked to help with the investigation which leads Jason to be interrogated by Trent, who is a professional interrogator. Trent has always received a confession with every one of his interrogations. I enjoyed many parts of The Rag and Bone Shop. Some examples of pleasant sections of the book are: the writing style, especially the voice and word choice, the description of characters, and the description of the settings. I enjoyed who I felt like I was watching what was going on in the book. There were a few sections of the book that I disliked. Some examples are how the author wrote events that were extreme in nature and wrote many of them in a row. Another example is when the author went into depth about one character for a long period of time, instead of focusing on the many characters. I disliked how the chapters were very short in length. Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. I believe that anyone who is interested in crime and shocking endings should read this book.
Rating: Summary: The Rag and Bone Shop Review: This book is basically a murder mystery. Very detailed with all of the evidence and suspects. Very good. It first starts out with the story of a murder. Where one guy murders a Mom, Dad and there child. Then it goes to Jason. The last kid to see Alicia Bartlett, he knew her well. They describe Jason right around the beginning of the book. How he is a shy little boy who doesn't like the attention on him all at once. Then they tell you about the murder of Alicia Bartlett, you know, where they found her, how Jason took it. So it goes on and tells you about the trials and tribulations that Jason went through after the death. I liked this book a lot so I got to give the author props for thinking of such a good novel. It was very thought over and well written. The dialogue was great. I wouldn't change much about this book. The description of all of the characters was great too. Once we met a new character in the book the author would automatically tells us about their life, what they do, sometimes their history of their lives. For example in the book right when Jason is about to be questioned by a famous investigator. He walks into the room and sees all of the other witnesses. The author describes each and every one of them as they walk in the room (pg. 57-60.) So overall I liked most of this but I would make just a few changes. For this book I will only share one dislike because this book was good. All throughout the book it was told in the first person. I think it would sound better in the second or third person. In conclusion I recommend this book to everyone. Whether you are good or bad at reading.
Rating: Summary: Is it really worth rags, and bones? Review: A young girl is murdered, and their are many investigators on the case. The story consists of how Jason copes with the event. Jason is highly questioned because he is a friend, and he was the last to see the young girl alive. I personally like more comtemporary style writing, so I enjoyed the book. I liked the plot of the story, and how it was portrayed. The author really goes into detail about each aspect in the book, but he doesn't leave many hints as to the conclusion of the story. The intesity of the story, and of how Jason goes about things, is really interesting, making the story a page-turner.I disliked the exposition (begining) of the story it was rather lackluster. I don't think that the author needed to spend so much time, on Jason's thoughts. I think he lost my interest there. I don't think their was a whole lot of voice to the writing style, and it could have been depicted by a person off the street. Overall I liked the book moderatly. I was reading this for a report, and I think that I might not have read it on my own time. I think if you like mystery's, and bloody story lines I think you'd enjoy this book. I would reconmend it to people probably of an older age maybe such as 12 and up, because their are some traits of the book that might now interest a person of a younger age. I also think that some parents, adn readers might think of it as incongruous, and not for a young readers level. I wouldn't reconmend it to elementary students. Overall I would rate it four out of five stars, because the plot is eminent.
Rating: Summary: A short and exciting thriller Review: A seven-year-old girl dies and they don't know who killed her. The last person to see this girl alive was Jason. No one seems to know what to do so a Senator brings in a super interrogator named Trent. The two have a long battle. Trent starts believing that Jason is innocent.. or is he. This novel was good and gripping. The character's attitudes came to life. For example, Trent had a strange role that reminded me of the Spanish inquisition. Cormier's plot gets thicker and thicker as the story moves on and gives you a surprise pop at the end. The characters are not set until the last page of the book. In the beginning Trent seems like a nice moral man. Through the inquisition, he becomes a man who will do anything whatsoever to obtain a confession. The book needed a little more description. Jason underwent a change and I wish Cormier could have explained this change in a little more detail. In the end, Trent became less of a character and more of a narrator. This book by Cormier is fairly good and I think most people would enjoy it
Rating: Summary: The Rag and Bone Shop is a superb book Review: I believe the book The Rag and Bone Shop was a superb book. . It was saturated with suspense, and I wanted to keep reading the book to see the outcome. The book was very exhilarating, with the investigations and the murder case. The book wasn't too lengthy and I was satisfied with my selection of books. The author caught my attention in the first few paragraphs and kept me interested. I am hoping the author will write more of his suspenseful stories. I am looking forward to reading more books by Robert Cormier.
Rating: Summary: The Rag and Bone Shop Review: All in all, I thought that The Rag and Bone Shop was a superb piece of writing. For those who haven read this book, I would recommend it to people 12 years old and up. I say this because it can get gruesome at some parts, and it is better suited for more mature readers. In this book a seven year old girl, Alicia, is murdered. Alicia is not like most seven year olds, partly because she acts almost like an old lady. Her personality and "old ladyish" features make her twelve year old friend, Jason, smile whenever he comes to visit. The problem is, Jason is the prime suspect in Alicia's murder. The odd-ball at school, but still the classic twelve year old, Jason is not possibly capable of murder. Or is he? Even though he is the "freak" of his school, he has such a strong personality that you simply can't ignore. The police force is under pressure to make an arrest, and so a sinister detective decides to call in a master interagator, Trent. This book is not only about the murder, but has a much deeper meaning to it. We do not learn only about the murder and heart and soul of humans, but of Trent, and the crucial role he plays in the story. Not only because he's the interagator, but because of his dark personality. His personality is the one that tore Jason apart. (You'll have to read to figure out how and why!)As the book goes on, the reader realizes that Jason is innocent, and so does Trent, but that's not what the police want to hear. Will Trent make Jason tell him what he wants to hear, or will the truth come out? Robert Cormier's novel reaches deep into the heart and soul of people, and has a chilling ending. With all of this said, your probably thinking, "So, why does it only get two stars?" The answer is this. If you are ready to be bored OUT OF YOUR MIND read this book. Even though I wasn't exactly glued to my seat, my nose pressed in the book, and the ending certainly didn't "knock my socks off" The Rag and Bone Shop is worth reading. The reason I gave The Rag and Bone Shop two stars and not any was because, the charactor development was astounding! You could really picture every charactor clealy in your mind, every detail in place. It really gets you thinking. Number one, because it's hard to follow at times, but number two because Robert Cormier has gotten such a precise view on the human heart.
Rating: Summary: A Very Superb Book Review: Jason Dorrant is 12 years old and something of a misfit. He is considered "slow" by most of the kids in town. He is shy and he doesn't like to answer questions in class. He doesn't have many friends his age. He likes to hang out with little kids like his 7-year-old friend Alicia Barlett. She and him liked to do Jigsaw Puzzles but one day, after Jason after visiting Alicia he finds out that the visit that he made, was made on the day Alicia was murdered. Unfortunately for Jason, he has not alibi! Jason says the murderer was the last person to see her alive but the entire town thinks he was! Will they be able to get him to confess? Or maybe Jason is innocent. I really enjoyed the way the author (Robert Cormier) made it seem as if Jason was completely clueless the entire time that he was the prime suspect for the crime. When Jason is brought into the detective's office, it took him a little bit to long to figure out what exactly was happening. I enjoyed the way that the book was written as if the plot was over only a course of 3 or 4 days. Most books make it seem as if the book's plot is supposed to be taking over a year. I didn't like the way that the author never let the reader really meet Alicia Barlett. I didn't get a sense of what her character was like. Other than that, there weren't very many aspects of this book that I didn't enjoy. This was one of the best books that I have read all of this year. It was very suspenseful and one of those books that you just can't find yourself putting down.
Rating: Summary: How long will it take for you to crack? Review: In The Rag and Bone Shop by: Robert Cormier, a 7 year old girl is brutelly murdered. And the police have one suspect. Jason. He was the last to see her alive. But the police don't have much on Jason to arrest him and press charges. So the police call in Trent, the interrogator. Trent has an impressive track record. He made even the toughest criminals cry like a baby. When Trent first meets Jason he sees something in Jason's eyes. Either Jason was really good at lying or he was innocent. But Trent was hired to find the truth. He was hired to make Jason crack. After hours of sitting in an uncomfortable tiny room with on light hanging from the ceiling, Trent makes Jason finelly say "I did it". I would recommend this book for people who like action and thriller books. I would also recommend also to people 9 to 13
