Summary: The evil emperor Ublaz with his bloodcurling hypnoic stare!
Review: This is a good redwall book with a nice plot. It was one of my favorite of the redwall series. In this book, the evil emperor Ublaz and his hoard of monitors, trident rats, and sea rats try to capture the tears of all oceans. They kill all the otters of Holt Lutra to capture the pearls, they just made one mistake, Grath Longfetch. She was an otter and her family was destroyed over some pearls. She joined forces with redwall and the Guosim shrews to destroy Ublaz. They sailed to the island of Samptra (Ublaz's island) to do battle with Ublaz and his hoard. They got to the island to find out that the sea rats had revolted against Ublaz which made it a three way battle. You will have to read the book to find out how it ends (and i recommend you DO read it!!).

Summary: One of the best
Review: This is one of the best Redwall books Jacques has made, Lord Broctree sliding in for a close second. The story has rich storytelling and lovable characters, and the action, dialogue, and creativity are all magnnificent. My favorite character is the rugged female corsair ferret, Romsca. This book you will want to read over and over. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Summary: 9th Book of Redwall
Review: The Pearls of Lutra is an exciting book about a group of lost pearls, a distrest abbey and a slaughtered otter holt. In the book you follow Grath Longfletch on a journey to revenge her holts slaughter by the evil Emperor Mad Eyes, an evil pine marten. While she is doing this the abbey warrior and a raving hare travel on a quest to save the abbot of Redwall. This book was a truly awesome sequel to Redwall.

Summary: Poetry and Fiction...A great combination!
Review: This wasn't my first Redwall book, but it was my favorite. The songs, riddles and poems are fantastic. There's action, adventures, puzzles, and a little bit everything else. Who would think that a young hogmaid would help solve the riddle of a lifetime? Everyone plays a part in this book, there's no wasted characters. I couldn't put it down. Brian Jacques can be proud of this one. I give it a Five-star Review!

Summary: Not a fantasy fan
Review: I'm not a fantasy fan, and when I started I kind of went, Whoaaa! But after I started going, I couldn't stop! I probably would have never have read it, but it appeared on the Battle of the Books list for 7th/8th grade battle of the books, so I didn't have a choice. Incredibly descriptive, this is one of the best of the Redwall books. Trying to figure out the riddles before the characters was entertaining, not that I did all that well, and the character development was interesting. At the beginning, there were too many characters for me to handle, of course I had never read a Redwall book before at that time, but by the end, I could tell you about each and every character. This story beautifully addresses greed and the ability some find to abuse power. If some one were hesitant about starting the series at the begging, although this one is a ways after, it's a good place to start.

Summary: Another Great Novel from Brian Jacques
Review: This book is amazing! It opens up an entirely new look at Redwall cultures and locations, has plenty of action, and the characters are well-defined. The quest is very exciting, and the plot sheds some light on the culture of sea rats, strange though their culture may be. The comedy was very classic, there were plenty of interesting songs and poems, mouthwatering food descriptions, action-packed battles, and culture. All in all, this ranks among my favorite books. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: Typical Redwall Fare.
Review: I really liked this book, as usual, but as compared to other Redwall books, it's not wonderful. The quest to find the Tears of All Oceans (pearls for which countless have been murdered by Emperor Ublaz) is one of the most interesting in the entire series, and the voyaging characters (especially Grath Longfletch) are very well-defined. Once again, a hare (Clecky) is the source for a great deal of comic relief, even when entirely unnecessary. Many other characters, however, are very flat and ill-defined. The heroine, Tansy, is a two-dimensional representation of good, and her friends (Craklyn and Piknim) are useless. I like the subplot with Abbot Durral aboard the ship, but the Rasconza vs. Ublaz subplot seemed entirely pointless, although both villains were far better characters than others in the past (Badrang, Cluny, Gabool, Ferahgo, Damug, et al.). Rasconza and the "Wave Brethren" posed more of a threat to Ublaz than Martin and Company did. Still, this book was a good representation of the struggle between good and evil told in a very British fashion, and I still loved it.

Summary: Worst of the Redwalls IMO
Review: I'm writing this review about 2 years after reading the book. I used to be a really big fan of Redwall. I have never read any books I liked as much as Jacques's. (Redwall, Mattimeo, and Martin the Warrior are my favorites. Unlike many others, I didn't really like Mossflower that much.) However, I was very disappointed with Pearls of Lutra, which, ironically, I rushed out to buy hardcover as soon as it was printed. What really makes all of the other Redwall books good are the vivid characters about whom I really care, and to me, Pearls of Lutra was lacking just that. The characters are very two-dimensional and uninteresting, ESPECIALLY the main character, Tansy - never before have I seen such a boring, flat, goody two-shoes character. With such characters, Redwall lost its greatness. Less importantly, I didn't think there should have been any more books after Mattimeo, which really seemed to close the series. ANOTHER rodent villian! Yay. We sure get a lot of these folks recently, don't we. Why the constant stream of new villians now, when it is said in Redwall that Redwall has been a PEACEFUL abbey for many years? It looked distinctly to me like Mr. Jacques was just trying to milk his franchise. But since other people apparently love it, I can't complain. However, if you look a few pages into the reviews, you'll find some people who agree with me. Also, we have all the standard Redwall cliches here, as well as an extra-Redwall cliche at the end which I shall not specify so as not to spoil it for those who will love this book. Pearls of Lutra, in sum, is all the Redwall cliches, uninteresting, flat characters, and a new Redwallish plot, forming a whole which is OK entertainment, but very disappointing by Redwall standards, lacking that which made Redwall so special in the first place - good characters.

Summary: Pearls of Lutra
Review: This book was overall pretty good...again Jaques uses the same plot but is able to make it seem different in every story. The best fact about this book was the otters, which along with the badgers and hares are my favorite. But the main reason for this review is to state the REAL chronological order for the Redwall books. The TRUE order goes: MARTIN THE WARRIOR, Mossflower, Outcast of Redwall, Marial of Redwall, The Bellmaker, Salamandastron, Redwall, Mattimeo, Pearls of Lutra. Because after all, how can Martin be a slave in the north AFTER he comes to Mossflower and resolves to live a peaceful life?
