Rating: Summary: The pearls of Lutra Review: I think the pearls of Lutra is the best book I have ever read!!!!
Rating: Summary: Pearls of Lutra: Fiction Beyond...Disappointment!!! Review: I am disappointed beyond belief! In Pearls of Lutra, the book I had chosen based on its cover since there was no description detectable, is about the Six Pearls of all Oceans. These pearls are wanted by the devious Emperor of Sampetra, an evil red-eyed stoat that answers to the name of Ublaz, that only wants them for a simple decoration of his crown. To desist his amoral plans, the warriormouse of Red Wall, which is a quaint building found East of Sampetra where young creatures live and are educated, has taken a journey along with fellow creatures to destroy Ublaz. This is pretty much what the story is about, and does have its positive and negative sides. Below, I shall share my personal feelings about this book with you, and if you disapprove of it, I am sorry I did not look at this book from all angles. In this story, all the characters are animals that have the ability to communicate to each other in the English language and make their own armory! Very beyond belief! It is not believable that animals can really do these tasks. It also contains animals acting like pirates that indeed build ships by themselves, wear clothes, and battle! How many animals do you know that wear clothing by their own will (which the characters also do), build ships, make weapons, fight with swords, and speak English? NONE!!! On the other hand, even though not realistic, the idea of animals as characters is very smart and creative. Also the technique of having certain animals with certain attitudes and characteristics is very clever along with how they all seem to get along with certain species of animals. I think I have made my point. Another thing about this book is that it is unbelievably slow. You have pages and pages of descriptive or unimportant information that doesn't relate to the book or the plot in any way. In one scene, the characters are baking a cake to give to the landowner, which is also irrelevant. The cake or the baking of it has no reference to the book. I have read the chapter over and over again, so I know that there is no symbolism either. There are many scenes that are right to the point. If all the non-related events were removed from the book, it would only be about 96 pages long out of the 351 pages of the book. I have recently been informed that the lengthy descriptions are for the blind so they have a great understanding of the story. These descriptions in the book are absolutely exquisite and give an excellent visual illustration. My last view of this book is the location. Now come on! Does anyone actually prefer a book with an imaginary land with talking animals with the same abilities as a human being? If someone does, they need to get their head out of Never-Never Land and grow up! Sure, it's okay for anyone of any age to still imagine of a beautiful place of adventure, but this story is a little over the top, in my opinion of course! Also, this mythical place has some awkward names. Not that I am making fun of them, but who ever thought of naming their piece of land Sampetra, or Holt Lutra? I t is like calling all males by the name of Bob, and all the girls by Mary Lou. I also believe that the map in the front of the book is a little much. If younger people read this book and see that map, they may actually think this place actually exists, because no one knows of maps of imaginary places, only real ones. In my opinion, the book, Pearls of Lutra, truly is a waste of good paper. The book has no real meaning, and is not realistic in any way (I dislike anything that is too fictional for my personal taste). In other words, if you prefer stories that are fictional, descriptive, or creative, this is a book that I think you will greatly enjoy. If you do not like those types of books, I recommend a good mystery book, or something more to the point. I hope that this has been a good reference to you, and if there are any arguments, I would like to hear them.
Rating: Summary: This book was my fave! ;) Review: I think that the book The Pearls of Lutra was totally cool! It was about a different sort of crisis in Redwall. When the an evil pine marten, Emperor Ublaz "Mad Eyes" of Sampetra, sets out to claim the "Tears of All Oceans",six beautiful pink pearls, for his own,the trouble on Sampetra naturally turns North towards Redwall Abbey. One of the corsairs from the island stole the Tears from his Captain, who was taking them to Ublaz. Greylunk(the corsair) received a fatal head injury from his accomplice, and painfully made his way to Redwall, where he was nursed by Fermald the Ancient until his death. Fermald hides the 6 pearls around the abbey. When Ublaz sends a young,kind-hearted corsair ferret named Romsca and a score of filthy monitor lizards to reclaim the pearls, they kidnao the Abbot and a young vole named Viola, and sail back to Sampetra with them. However, some complications arise.... Ok, mateys, I anit sayin no more! Read this yarn for yerselves. The book was beautifully written, and though the characters were a bit 2/D at times, I loved it. I especially thought that Romsca,Barranca and Conva(for the short time he lived) were really cool.
