Rating: Summary: A refreshing, honest book for adolescent girls! Review: As a mental health therapist who works with pre-teen and teengirls, I embrace this book as a refreshing look at the issues femalesface today. I use this book in my group sessions and the girls loveit! It speaks to their questions and concerns in a frank and honestmanner. I, too, was a bit surprised at the candor of this book, however, girls today are facing issues earlier than previousgenerations. I, for one, would rather have girls equipped with theknowledge to make safe choices rather than become pregnant or contractan sexually transmitted diseases. As adults, we do not have the powerto control the choices of our youth, but we do have the power to givethem the knowledge they need to make these decisions. Ignorance is nolonger bliss, knowledge is power!
Rating: Summary: Great...a keeper forever Review: This book help me to realize everything that my parents never helped me out with. All those unanswered questions are answered. I would buy this even for a friend. It not only tells you about the female (and some about the male) but it tells you about all the basic issues that teens face today, such as sexual perferences, race, life, self destruction, and a lot of other things. You will want to read every bit of this information. It will leave you relieved that you've finally figured a piece of information out that you didn't know.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book For All Mature Female Teenagers Review: Man this book was great it was the best book i have ever read in my life, next to The Babysitter a horror story. You would have to mature to read this book though. So that way you don't laugh at things that aren't very funny at all. This book tells you about sex, your body, diseases, female and some male parts of the body. This book is specificly for females. It tells you how to deal with problems at home and anywhere else, you can find out problems with other people and see if there similar to yours. After reading this book you would for sure know if you had any problems with your body or why you might feel certain ways and find out your not the only one. there are many people out there who have the same problem as ypou or something similar. I strongly believe that you would have to be mature to read this because if your not you might just think ill or why is that in this book and maybe even think it's some kind of porno.( if your that imature!)
Rating: Summary: Totally Suprised! Review: I'm the mother of a 15-year old daughter who was looking for a book that my daughter could read that would relate to the pressures of a teenage girl her age and that would be sufficiently cool enough for her to read. If I gave this book to my dauhger I would have been giving her my permission to have sex with advise on how to have sex. I'm sorry but this book is NOT appropriate for the average 15-year old girl. I would reconsider her reading it at a much later age.
Rating: Summary: Some Adult Content Review: I am the father of two 14yr old girls and I was shocked at the adult content in this "teen" book. I don't believe in hiding things from our teens. I just think there should be a warning label on books with such sexual explicit material, like currently used with music and movies. Parents have a right to be warned about the material their teens will be exposed too. Having said that, I did give the book an average rating because it cover the material in accurate detail and presented the pros and cons of the subject. Teens will find out all about sex, this book could be used as a tool for conversation between parents and teens. It will also tell them the truth about questions they are afraid to ask. We as parents just need a heads up on adult teen material so that we can screen it or further explain it to our teens. Parents read what your kids read!
Rating: Summary: Very good... Review: Okay, I'll start by saying that this book is definitely blunt. But... in honesty, as embarrassing as a lot of the information is, its very useful and helpful. Being a teenager myself, I think that every teenage girl can benefit from this book. My mom skimmed through it a little with me and she thought that although some parts were unesecary, she felt it important that I knew the majority of what was in it. It really answers a lot of questions that you may be too scared to ask. I really recommend it for teenage girls (probably the older, the better!)
Rating: Summary: a great book Review: this is a great reference book for teenage and most pre-teen females. it answers the questions that we are too ashamed or embarassed to ask about and also teaches everything about life. It's great. Like a reference book to the more serious parts of life in a fun and generally helpful manner.
Rating: Summary: From a mans point of view... and excellent book! Review: I read this book cover to cover with my wife before giving it to our 11 year old daughter. If I were to change one thing I would put it in a three ring binder so we could remove some parts such as the oral sex section until she was a little older. However my wife and I are very open minded and we actually went through the book section by section with our daughter and asked her to skip those sections until she was a little older. She even closed the sections with a paperclip for us. Our daughter is very intelligent and very curious. I can tell you right now that I would much rather have her learn these things from this book than from someone on the street! I recommend this book for anyone with daughters in the age from 11-18. I also recommend "Our Bodies Ourselves" for ALL women AND men to read. If you really don't want your daughter reading those sections, then hit them with a permanent marker, or do like that other woman did and rip the pages right out, but don't pass over this excellent and informative resource for young women!..
Rating: Summary: From a mans point of view. Review: First, I want to say the woman who says she's not a prude... she's a prude. Oh, by the way, my wife, daughter and I were just rolling on the floor laughing from the girl's comment in there about getting her "Hairy a-- crack waxed..." and that she couldn't just go to a beauty salon and do it! You have to get this book just for that great line!
Rating: Summary: No way you should buy this book for your daughter! Review: What a trashy piece of literature masquerading as a "how to" book for adolescence. I bought the book for my ten year old and am so glad I read it thoroughly before giving it to her. Who would think it appropriate for a mother to instruct her daughter on the proper means of orally gratifying a male! That could very well be thought of as bordering on child abuse or molestation. I am an open minded, loving mother. I am no prude - and found the book very frank and to the point. But I DO NOT recommend any mother give it to her daughter - no matter what her age.
