Summary: DEAL with this book, parents...
Review: Okay, all these parents complaining about this book are seriously annoying. Yeah, this book has pictures of sex position, talks about orgasms, masturbation, and oral sex...what's wrong with that? Your children, as hard as it is to believe, are going to find out about this stuff sooner or later. Maybe they already have. (At school, on TV, from friends...) You can't hide it forever. Just face it. I doubt it's going to make your daughter want to run out and have sex with someone. If they do, maybe you're partly to blame. This book deals with sexual positions and what not, but it also talks about protection, such as condoms and Depo-Provera (and tells you the effectiveness and how to use it, the advantages and disadvantages) and about STDs like AIDS and Chlamydia (PREVENTION, symptoms, how you can contract it...). It talks about rape, adoption, sexual preference, molestation, date rape, drugs (and their risks), periods, friends, fitting in, boobs, and just about being a girl. What's wrong with that? If I had a daughter, I would definitely give it to her.

Summary: Parents: Beware
Review: I stumbled across this book at the local library. (I have a preteen daughter, so I have an interest in books she might be attracted to.) The book is extremely graphic (subject matter, language, and various sex-related and sexual position illustrations), but very colorful and attractive on the outside. Inside there are plenty of sidebars to send the reader to other parts of the book, I'm sure with intentions of luring the reader through the whole thing.

The book is geared toward preteen and teen girls, supposedly to teach the girls about what they need to know in today's society, despite what adults might tell them. Unfortunately, it promotes teen sex, homosexuality as a viable option worth trying, sex with multiple partners (even simultaneously), masturbation (with pornography for added pleasure), and is very condescending about the "outdated" laws of sodomy in some towns.

I wasn't surprised when I saw Planned Parenthood, P-Flag, and other extremely liberal organizations listed as references; however, the book writers managed to get the Right To Life organization in there, and I'm not so sure that organization would like to be associated with a book like this. The website, [website], only touches on some of the subject matter in the book, but it's explicit enough, and discerning adults can certainly be able to see the motives of the people behind the website and book. The focus is destructive.

However, many youth and parents are not so discerning. I am concerned that a book like this (and its flashy website) is so visually appealing, written by "trustworthy" adult women, and readily available to impressionable young women. My children are going to have a greater battle as teens and adults than I anticipated if their peers are being conformed to this way of thinking.

Summary: Covers a lot
Review: This book is very interesting and great for average non-brainiac girls. It's colorful and very fun. This book covers almost everything you can think of, but is some not very thorough. Sometimes you get only a few sentences on the subject and maybe some other girl's views that aren't exactly smart or helpful.
Besides those vague subjects, the rest are well written and contain lots of information. I even used this book to help out with my project on cigarette smoking. It's like a fun text book thats not so strictand boring.

Summary: It is about time!
Review: I bought this book for my thirteen year old daughter. She has had my copy of Our Bodies, Our Selves for several months now, but that book is aimed towards an older female. This is the perfect book to answer all those teen questions that arise.

Yes, parts of it are blunt and the female authors pull no punches - that is what I liked about it. Obviously, many of these questions are taken directly from the web site. It's not as if the authors attempted to find the subjects which would offend parents the most!

They are questions asked by curious teens and I, for one, am thrilled that those questions are being answered by females who are mature, yet understanding. Too many parents choose to act as if budding sexuality will go away if they discourage it...wake up, people. It's biological and you can demand abstinence all you want; it doesn't mean your child will listen.

I am extremely open to any questions my children want to ask me about sex, or anything else for that matter. Still, there are questions girls just don't feel comfortable asking adults in their family...that is the reason I purchased this book.

Yes, they describe how to perform oral sex, but they also discuss receiving it. I learned it from my Mother's Helen Gurley Brown book long before I ever actually became sexually active. Just because a girl is curious, doesn't mean she's going to have sex immediately. In fact, I think it makes them LESS likely to do it strictly out of curiosity!

Thank you, ladies, for writing this...where were you when I was a teen? I will definitely be saving this one for my other two girls..and my boy!

Summary: an okay book!
Review: I think that many people may not like this book, for it is basically not a book. It is a guid to the body of a growing girl. His book would be for young, growing girls that would like to know more about their bodies, but they are too embarrassed to ask anyone about things.
The best part about this book is that it is in an easy to read form of information. On most or even all of the topics, they are very thorough. I guarntee after ereading this book, every girl will know everything about themselves.

Summary: The Best of It's Kind
Review: I went to a local store the other day and found this book while flipping through the teen advise section. Being 14 years old and a Freshman in high school, I wanted a book that could answer ALL my questions that i am way too embarassed of asking even my friends. When i got home and began reading it, I was EXTREMELLY impressed-i have never seen a book so focussed on answering a High Schoolers questions! Though i must say that for anyone younger than 14 the book might be a litte too informative. From describing every drug, sex position, and Eating Disorder to Nicknames that teens often call them, the book just blew me away. There was no need for any other book of its kind...they covered it all with detail, leaving me knowledgable and happy to know that i'm not the only one with these kind of questions.

Summary: Every girl should own this.
Review: Going through your teen years is very hard. We have so many questions about sexual situations, what is going on with our bodies, how to deal with emotions, why we feel the way we do... This book has taught me so much. Girls often want answers to questions that may be too embarrassing to ask their mom about, even friends. It's so nice to be able to get the answers to those questions from a book. I would highly recommend this book for teenage girls. It's very easy to understand and it gives you a relief to know your not the only person with these problems and emotions.

Summary: Sexually explicit - should not be for young teens
Review: I ordered this book for my 13 year old daughter because it seemed to cover all pertinent subjects from drugs, std's, body image, etc... When I reviewed the book I was shocked to see that not only did it cover these very important subjects but also went into "how to" have sex in explicit detail. This book would have been very informative except I don't think that we need to tell our teens "how to" perform sex. This chapter also came before the chapters on protection and consequences!

Summary: Perfect for Young Women - Wish I'd had it 20 years ago!
Review: I bought this book for my ten year old several months ago, because she'd read "The Life Cycle Library" cover to cover and was coming up with more questions than I could keep up with. She literally SLEPT with this book for more than a month, and when her first period started last week, she was prepared, not in the least confused, and actually very pleased with herself and her body's progress.

I was a little worried about some of the topics covered, but I figured it was better for her to find out this way than from dirty jokes and Judy Blume novels. And she made me proud, telling me that she'd skipped some of the stuff because "that was stuff to talk to your parents about later."

All in all, a great resource in an easy-to-read format. Highly recommended.

Summary: Great Book!!
Review: I pulled this book out again yesterday to re-read the information about body image and remembered just how womderful this book is. It is refreshing to read a book geared towards teen women that does not encourage them to starve themselves or do other harmful things to adhere to some ridiculous standard of beauty. The book is blunt and to the point. Teenagers need to hear about this stuff. Withholding the truth about potential consequences (especially regarding sexuality) will not keep teens from having sex. Rather, it can be a deadly mistake.
