Rating: Summary: Shabanu was an ok book, and it gave us plenty information. Review: The book is about an 11 year old girl that lives in the Cholistan Desert. Her family consists of her father, mother, sister, grandfather, auntie, and her little cousins. She has been scheduled to have a wedding but it got canceled. That makes her mad because she then has to marry someone else she doesn't like.
Rating: Summary: Shabanu was a well written book, but it was somewhat boring Review: Shabanu was a book written by Suzanne Fisher Staples. Shabanu is about a young girl and her family who live in a desert in Pakistan. This is a very relistic book. The author gives great detail and descriptions. One part, in the Sibi Fair chapter, There is a sandstorm and when you read that part, you can really picture Shabanu in a sandstorm. This book was very well written, but boring at times. It was also hard to follow in the begining of the book. If you like good to read well written books with great descriptions than Shabanu is the book for you!
Rating: Summary: We thought that it was a very boring book. Review: The book Shabanu by Suzanne Fisher Staples wasn't the best book Ian or I have ever read before. It was very boring and unappealing to us. The book was very descriptive, but at the same time it lacked the excitement that most other books have.
Rating: Summary: Shabanu is a good book Review: I enjoyed the book shabanu because there was a lot of information in this book. A lot of details about the desert in pakistan and the people. I like the part where Shabanu and Dadi go to Sibi fair. The book has a lot of details of what the rides look like and how they are operated. The ferris wheel that Shabanu rides on is operated by human power and not electricity. The book explains what the scenery is like and what the people look like and how they act. This is a really good book and the auther has such a good imagination and writes so well, it is very hard to put the book down. Once I started reading the book had to read right through. It is not like those books that are boring in the begining that get better. This book is good all the way through and it explains everything that happens. It also has pages in the back of the book that explains words you might not understand. It is a great book, I suggest that you read it as soon as you can.
Rating: Summary: Shabanu is a very interesting book filled with great detail. Review: Shabanu is a very interesting book about a desert nomadic family in Pakistan. Suzanne Fisher Staples used many similes and metaphores which made it easier to picture the scenes. Shabanu doesn't want to leave her life in the desert, where she has lived since she was born. Her family has already arranged a marriage for her and her sister Phulan. I really enjoyed the book, and I reccomend it to others.
Rating: Summary: Shabanu is well described, some parts are too detailed. Review: The book, Shabanu was a very well written book! The author, Suzanne Fisher Staples, gave excellent detail, and explained the lifestyle of many desert famalies very well. Although it was very well described, some parts were to descriptive and hard for kids to understand.
Rating: Summary: The book was filled with info. and was well written. Review: Shabanu written by Suzanne Fisher Staples was a interesting look at the life of a Muslim girl entering adolescence. We thought it gave good information on the life of a strict Pakistiani Muslim. The book was however rather dull and lacked action.
Rating: Summary: We liked this book and we hope you do too. Review: The book, Shabanu was about a young girl that grows up in the Cholistan desert. Her sister was about 14 and was thinking about her marriage to a charming young man. Her soon-to-be husband got separated from her and Shabanu's sister must remarry. The book starts slow but ends GREAT!!
Rating: Summary: Shabanu was a well written but not very exciting book. Review: Shabanu by Suzanne Fisher Staples is about a girl living in the Cholistan Desert in Pakistan. It wasn't what we expected or hoped for in a good book. It contains a lot of personal information about a young girl in the desert but isn't very exciting.
Rating: Summary: This book was exciting, but at the same time very confusing. Review: The book Shabanu by Suzanne Fisher Staples was very interesting. It told a lot about the culture and traditions of a pakistani nomadic family. The writer used great detail, with tons of similies and metaphors. This book taught us how hard some people's lives are, and how much they struggle just to survive. It was also very confusing. Many different character's popped into the story at different times. I am glad that we read this book, because it gave us a different perspective of life.
