Rating: Summary: amazing Review: JGMSP2S18 Do you like books with excitement? How about books with mystery and fantasy? Well this book has it all. Whatever you want it has it. This book describes a young Muslim girl. She gets into a bit of problems but she quickly regains control. I thought this book was excellent. It had everything from camels to beatings to important talks that have important meanings. Anybody who reads this book will instantly love it. I think whom so ever reads it should pass it on to more people. That way the whole world will go through the wonderful and the ruff times of Shabanu. When you read this book you will have a wonderful feeling left inside you. You will want to read it over and over and over again. I will never grow tired of it. I loved it so much I recommended it to my parents and my sister. My parents read it and loved as much as I did. They loved it so much tthey recommended it to their friends whom are reading it now. My sister however is still reading it but she is loving the book. I recommend this book to eveyone. Even old people. Parents should even read it to their kids.
Rating: Summary: it was ok, but a little boring Review: I had to read this book for my 7th grade reading book. It went really slowly and I thought that it was a little to informative at times. I didn't really like Shabanu's character but i liked Phulan's better. I would deffinitly not recomend this book unless u have to read it.
Rating: Summary: Yuck! Review: I read this book in school. It was absolutely disgusting. I think that Suzanne Fisher Staples wrote a book with innapropriate info in it.
Rating: Summary: This book is about as bad as it gets. Review: I had to read this book for eighth grade, and found myself struggling to read it. It's not that the plot moved too slow, its just that there was no plot to speak of. I think I speak for my entire grade when I say no one liked it. It's more and more of the same useless words. Teachers: Teach more meaningful books, ie Dickens, Tolkein, Chaucer, etc., not Shabanu.
Rating: Summary: I wish it had been better Review: Honestly I began reading this book with high hopes. Unfortunatly Ms. Fisher Staples does nothing with her main character. Shabanu herself is the only interesting part of this book. The story lags, and although the main charaater is likeable, you can't like this book. The plot goes no where, and at the end of this book you find yourself wondering why you spent your precious time reading this pointless mess.
Rating: Summary: Don't use this book in your classroom! Review: What upset me most about this over-generalized sterotypical book was that it is used in classrooms. What are our youth going to think about Pakistani culture? Are they going to think that Shabanu's experience is the norm? Probably, yes! They have no other point of reference. We don't need more books that generalize cultures, especially those that are already misunderstood. Please don't use this book as a teaching tool!
Rating: Summary: This book was great! Review: I really loved this book especilly how it described the culture and landscape of Pakistan. Shabanu has to make really hard decicions. I would recommend this book to girls more than boys. I can't wait to read Haveli!
Rating: Summary: It was pretty good. Review: I liked this book. The plot was slow, yeah, but it didn't go so fast that you had no clue what was happening, which is a good thing. It deserves a lot of credit because it had a realism about it, a person sacrificing herself for her family, which is sad. Read and enjoy. And to all the people who had to read this for school, there are worse books out there. And be happy that your teacher only made you read this stuff, because I have been made to read books that are really bad and confusing.
Rating: Summary: Could use more work Review: I felt this book hard to read with all the italic words that you constantly had to look up in the back of the book. It was also hard to understand and confusing at some parts. I wouldn't recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Terrible! What a nasty book! Review: I find this book boring! It deals with nasty subjects that kids shouldn't have to deal with. I can't believe we have to read it for 7th grade! I think this book should never be read or published. It is inappropriate.
