Rating: Summary: The Bellmaker Review: Online Book Review The Bellmaker is one of ten books in the Redwall series. Joseph, the Bellmaker, is the main character. He has a daughter Mariel that he hasn't seen for a year. Mariel is off with her friend Dandin, they are both warriors. Mariel and Dandin came across a castle one day, that was once owned by King Gael. It had been taken over by Urgan Nagru, the foxwolf, and Silvermold. They had hords of rats with them and they basically took over everything. Mariel and Dandin would do anything to rid of the Foxwolf, and his wife, but they didn't have enough people to defeat them. While this was going on, the Bellmaker had a dream. In his dream Martin the Warrior, the best warrior in Redwall's history, said that the Bellmaker must gather four certain people from Redwall and go Southward. He had know idea what this meant, but he had to do as he was told. It was an old legend that Martin appears in your dreams that something was wrong. Nobody would dare to disobey Martin. Little did the Bellmaker know that he would meet many warriors on the way to Southward, and even more important, Southward was where his daughter was, and these warriors would come with him to join he and his daughter to battle Urgan Nagru. I wont tell the ending, because I haven't finished the book myself. All I can say is that so far, it is one of the best books I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: You won't be disappointed reading "The Bellmaker"!! Review: Mariel and Dandin of Redwall have been long gone from Redwall Abbey, wandering the land as warriors. When they come to Southward, they do not realize it is a very dangerous place, that the land has been ruled under the tyrant Urgan Nagru and his mate Silvamord who are both foxes. They command a whole army of sea rats and took over Castle Floret and made prisoners the royal family of Gael Squirrelking and his wife Serena and their son, Truffen. When Serena and Truffen escape the clutches of Nagru and his horde with the help of otters Rab and Iris and their band, Rab and the faithful squirrel sitter for Truffen, Muta the badger, fight off the whole army themselves. They are left for dead and Nagru and his army keep looking for Serena and Truffen using two ermine, called the evil Dirgecallers to track down the squirrel queen and her son. Meanwhile, Mariel and Dandin themselves are in serious trouble as they fight off a group of rats who are trying to kill a family of moles. Luckily, they are helped by hare Field Marshal Meldrum Fallowthorn with his four nephew leveret hares and run the rats off. The grateful moles lead them to their mole hideout and explains the circumstances of Southward. The next day they see Nagru, his army, and the Dirgecallers on the scent of Serena and Truffle. Wanting to help, they started jumping on the very top of a dune and the dune collapses on all of the rats and Nagru! Some of his rats are killed and the Dirgecallers, who were in the front, are also killed. Mariel, Dandin, and Meldrum are captured and made to starve in the highest tower in Castle Floret. The break down the door by breaking the hinges, then free the other prisoners whom one of them happens to be Gael Squirrelking! The other prisoner is Glokkpod, a great, red-backed shrike. They try to escape but there is no way out since they're at the top of the tower and the rats have discovered their escape and are rushing in. Glokkpod helps to break open the roof to the attic and they stay there, trying to keep off the rat hordes. While all of this is going on, back at Redwall Abbey, Joseph the Bellmaker has a vision from the mouse warrior, Martin. In his vision he is told that Mariel is in danger and needs his help. He is told to go by sea towards the south and is told, "Five will ride the Roaringburn, But only four will e'er return." Using the clues, they realize that the five mentioned is Joseph, Rufe Brush the squirrel bellringer, Durry Quill the cellar hog, Foremole, and Hon Rosie, the hare. Together with the help of Log-a-log and his shrews and Finbarr Galedeep the sea otter, they steal the ship, "The Pearl Queen" (which rightfully belongs to Finbarr) to sail away to help Mariel. Will Mariel and her friends be able to escape Castle Floret? Will Serena and her friend otters try to help them? Will Joseph, the Redwall creatures, and their friends come to help fight Nagru and his army? Is it true that 'five will ride the Roaringburn, but only four will e'er return? To find out these questions, however, you'll have to read the book yourself to find out. This book "The Bellmaker" is of the Redwall series and should be read right after reading "Mariel of Redwall. Probably my most favorite characters in this book is Dandin, Meldrum, Hon Rosie, and Rufe. Dandin for being the brave and kind warrior mouse, Meldrum because of his military ways, Hon Rosie for her jokes and her ear shattering laugh, and Rufe for his timid yet strong ways. Rufe was lucky to have such nice friends Durry and Fatch the sea rat.
Rating: Summary: The Bellmaker Review: Let me start off by saying one thing, if you haven't read Mariel of Redwall, definetly don't read this book, ever untill you have read Mariel of redwall. This book is the sequesl to Mariel of Redwall, and if you don't unterstand how the 7th book in a series can be the sequel to the 4th book in a series ( To all redwall fans, this may sound silly but at the beginning the concept is really complicated) then start of by reading redwall, and then mossflower. This book starts out with Mariel and Dandin in Soutsward finding out about Urgan Nagru and trying to stop him with the help of some creatures from rredwall, and some other creatures. A lot of the book is devoted to the redwaller's trip to southsward, and meanwhile all the creatures and southsward trying to stop Urgan Nagru. I really like this book, but it was confusing to me at first. I almost even cried, but once you get the hang of it the book becomes less confusing. It is like that with all redwall books, but for me this one in particular. Everything is great though, except the map. I wish we could see how southsward is in relation with all of redwall, but I bet I could find that in the redwall mape and Riddler.
Rating: Summary: GALLLLLLLLLLEEEEEDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!! Review: The Bellmaker is Mainly about a Fox who wears a wolf's skin, and he tries to take over Southsward, but there's a girl named Mariel (Mariel of Redwall sold seperately) and she two main companions, Dandin (another mouse) and Bowly Pintips (a Hedgehog). Mariel and the others gather an army of Otters, Hedghogs, and Moles. Meanwhile, Mariels Father Joseph the Bellmaker has a dream that he will save Mariel with others. The others are Log-a-log the shrew and his band of Guoism, Foremole, Rufe Brush, Durry Quill (Fat wettysnout pricklybottom cakeface), Rosie Woodsorrel, and Finnbar Galedeep. Together they fight a gruesome battle. In the end, The Foxwolf gets killed by Finnbar, but Finnbarr gets killed by a rat named Bladetail. This is a very exciting book with an awesome, explosive, annhialating band of characters.
Rating: Summary: Eulaliaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! (That Means It Was Good) Review: Amazing! This book was even better than Redwall and the Outcast of Redwall! It has everything you could expect from a Redwall novel: Evil, Action, Adventure, Humor, and Mouthwatering Food. The plot is as follows: Mariel and Dandin, along with a new friend called Major Meldrums, are in serious trouble. They were caught while resisting the evil Foxwolf, Urgan Nagru, his mate Silvamord, and their hordes. So, when Martin the Warrior visits Joseph, Mariel's father, in a dream, and tells him to help Mariel along with four other Redwallers, Joseph sets out immediately. The Redwall Rescue Team makes a new friend in Finnbar, a sea otter, who steals his old ship back from searats. They journey to Southsward, the beautiful land that Foxwolf has taken over. There they encounter toads, warrior hedgehogs, and (gasp) Foxwolf. Can they save Mariel, Dandin, and Meldrums in time? Read the book to find out. I recommend this book to Redwall readers, fantasy readers, and just plain readers.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: The Bell Maker by Brian Jacques is an exciting tale of adventure, friendship, and heroes. (...) I haven't finished the book yet, but right now she is trapped in the castle with her friends, fighting off the vermin. There are 12 books in the Redwall series and I have loved reading every one of them. The story is kind of repetitive, heroic mouse defeats a tyrant and his horde, but Brian Jacques makes the characters and storylines different enough that they are enjoyable to read. I love the descriptions of the characters and scenery and the rhymes and songs Brian Jacques puts in the books. For example the dibbuns (baby animals) sing, "Give us dinner every eve, Or we'll pack our bags and leave, Where we go to we don't know, Up the path a league or so, If we don't find comfort there, Back to Redwall we'll repair, We'll eat pudding, pie, and cake, All the Abbey cooks can make!" I also love the wonderful Abbey feasts with amazing descriptions of food, so amazing that you can see the food in front of you and the creatures around you! I also like how Brian Jacques makes the "world" seem medieval and with out humans.
Rating: Summary: Clare's review Review: This is a great book from The Redwall series. The series has no order and you can read them in any order you like. This is the first book that I have read in this series and I thought it was great. At the beginning, it confuses you a little (unless you have read other books in this series) because it jumps from place to place, but only to give you information on the problem in the story. By the fifth or sixth chapter, it starts to come together. This book is full of adventure and fighting, and it gets you hooked and you just can't stop reading. Throughout the story, there is great description. There is so much that I can't choose my favorite scene. The only bad thing about this book is that there are so many characters that are just thrown in, that it confuses you. But for the most part, this is a great book.
Rating: Summary: Best in the series Review: If I could, I would give this book 20 stars. This is my favorite book from the Redwall series. I read it in 2 days and I am 10 years old! It's amazing and action-packed. I would recommend it to anyone, even if you are NOT a Redwall fan. And again, this book deserves 1,000/5 stars. READ IT!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book by Brian Jacques Review: I really think The Bellmaker is a really good book for people who like adventure books. But, it's also sad. When Finnbarr Galedeep died. I almost cried. They stayed on the ship to long that's when it got boring. Who would have thought Redwallers would steel.
Rating: Summary: Buckweed Review: The book I read is called The Bellmaker. It was publishedin 1994 and one out of a giant series called Redwall. The author is Brian Jacques, one of the greatest authors of all time I might add. The characters include Joseph the Bellmaker, Finbar Galeep,Dandin of Redwall and Mariel the warrior maid. The book is about a fantasy land where animals are the domant race and when a fearless warrior maid that will stop at nothing to free Southwards from a evil war lord named Foxwolf and his daedly mate Silvermord. The book is also about friendship, bravery and courage. Mariel accomplishes all here goals but I'm not going into the detail. Mariel learns that killing is very sad and after a battle she becomes wise and and skilled with a notted rope as her weapon. The moral of the story is (DON'T GET TO CONFIDENT BECAUSE THE ODDS MIGHT TURN AGAINST YOU!) I would give the book a five out of five rating. It is a good book and I suggest you read it.
