Rating: Summary: the best book I've read Review: Walter Dean Myers, a fine author, wrote a good book when he wrote Slam. Slam is a sixteen-year-old student athlete at an inner city high school. Slam's best friend Paul is slipping into the streets and to save him. This book is good for teenage through young adults. I think everybody should read it
Rating: Summary: The Best book I read so far Review: Hi im in the 12th grade, and I just read the book "Slam" and I must admitt this is the best book I read so far, I really understand this book because it has words dealing with young kids today "moms" and "pops" . I don't know about people saying it was a hard book, and can't understand the words but they were very easy to understand. I like this book also because of the characters and the scenery ,and that this book takes place in the 90's ,because I was really relating to what the author was talking about.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK !!! Especially if you love basketball. Review: SLAM by Walter Dean Myers The story I read takes place at Latimer high school in Harlem. Seventeen-year-old Greg "Slam" Harris can do it all on the basketball court. When he's on the court he's on FIRE !!! But off the court Greg's grades aren't so hot. He knows it, but he doesn't want to hear it. When his teachers try to help him understand his problems he blows up. Slam is a junior in a visual arts program at Latimer, a New York City high school. He is struggling everywhere, including the basketball court, where he thinks he knows everything. Slam has to be wary of temptations on the corners of Harlem. He tries to keep a steady relationship with his family and his girl. He never doubted himself on the court until he found himself going one-on-one with his own future, and he didn't have the ball.` I think that the author ( Walter Dean Myers ) of Slam did a great job portraying the everyday life of a troubled teenager in Harlem. If I could rate this book on a scale of one to five, I would give it a four, because I like basketball and the author did a great job describing what was happening when Slam was playing basketball. This book kept me interested the whole time and kept me wondering what was going to happen to "SLAM" next.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read but...come on Review: I am in 8th grade and read this book with a group of 3 others.....it was fun to read and discuss with the friends who were also reading it but it wasnt a challenging book and it was hard to read at all....i dunno about all of u who r saying that this was a great book for ur kids to read but if it was they must be stupid....the writing tried too hard to be like a real kid talking....at first i though the kid had two moms....he always said "My moms..." This was a fun book to read but wasnt challenging at all
Rating: Summary: A must read for teenage boys Review: As a parent of a teenager, I'm always looking for good books for my son to read. I read this book and fell in love with it. Slam deals with the game of life, friendships, and making choices. If you are a parent of a reluctant reader this is a must get. My son could not put it down!! Good books you got to love them!!!!
Rating: Summary: An exposive book that should be read by everyone. Review: This is the best book I have ever read! The expicit detail along with the plot make it an unforgettable. Walter Dean Myers really knows his stuff when it comes to basketball and writing. One day, this book will be considered a classic.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BBALL BOOK Review: this book is great!!!! Its got it all, its got action packed basketball and also a good friendship. the perfect book for a basketball fan.
Rating: Summary: An awesome book with real life charaters Review: It is the best book I have read on my favorite subject: Basketball. The story is told in a very realistic way. The struggle of Slam (Greg Harris) between the game on the basketball court and the game in life where there is no ball and everyone is playing. He thinks basketball can solve all the problems in school but the teachers don't think that way...
If you like basketball don't miss it!
