Summary: Got Game?
Review: A Review by Pat

Slam is a book about a fifteen year old basketball player. The story starts out talking about his family. He has a mother, brother, and alcoholic dad who is frequently in and out of jobs. Then the story starts to tell about Slam's school and friends. Slam was transferred to a new school because of efforts to change ethnic mix among schools. Lastly, the book talks about how Slam works his way onto the school basketball and the road blocks he overcomes to get there.

One thing I liked about this book is how well they introduced the characters. The book really goes in depth and talks about the back rounds of each character well. Secondly, I liked how the author describes each situation. Hew gets down to every last detail in the situation. For this reason the story is easy to follow. Lastly, I liked how the book leaves you guessing. Every page leaves you wondering what could possibly pop up next.

I recommend this book for readers who like to get attached to their book. If you like great descriptive settings and detailed characters this book is for you.

Summary: Basketball
Review: Slam! This is book is about a a boy, Greg Harris, that is a junior in high school. He lives in a drug-like community. He misses his best friend Ice. Greg's nickname is Slam, because he is such a great basketball player. This is his first year a Lamiter High School. When he leaves his old school Ice starts on drugs and becomes a drug dealer. Slam is the only black person in school. When he goes to try outs for the basketball team he acts all that and then has to play against the coach. Slam beats the coach and coach gets mad. But thats not the only thing in Slam's way, he has bad grades in Math. Slam never gets to play in a basketball game but when they put him in he scores all the points.
This is a great book I suggest it for ages 13 and up. I love this book and I think it is great for people who love basketball. In the world today it deals with drugs and basketball. I think that you should read the book Slam!

Summary: I Love the book Slam!
Review: I really liked the book Slam! It makes me see how bad the ghetto can really be, but it also makes me want to play basketball. I wish Slam didn't have to live in the worst part of town. This book makes me want to go out and practice basketball right now and be able to dunk on people.

Summary: "Slam!" scores!
Review: Greg "Slam" Harris, was a good kid. Never did drugs, never got arrested, never been accused of something erroneous. But nobody is perfect, especially Slam. He's got his share of problems at home with his family. His mother's always pushing Greg to do his best, yet his dad is pushing harder. Then his little brother is always curious, messing with his things, making him angry.
Then of course there's school. Slam always tries to find the easy way out of schoolwork. He is then changed from his old school in the ghetto, to a new prep-school with a lot of smarter kids. He can't keep up with them. There are so many things that are going bad for him, but there's always one thing that keeps his mind off it all. Basketball. When he's on that court, he's at his best. Lay-ups, free-throws, jumpers, and of course, his specialty, slam-dunks.
Walter Dean Myers shows how a kid from the streets makes his way to earn the respect of his friends, other players, and his new coach. I really enjoyed this book because a lot of kids have things in their life that relates to Greg.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants something so bad, that they would do anything for it, or someone who loves basketball. Just do it.

Summary: All About Ball
Review: A Review by Amanda

This book was about a teenage boy who loved to play basketball. His nickname is Slam. When Slam transfers too a new school, he tries out for their basketball team. Him and another guy, Nick, were the best ones out there. He made the team, but then he started having problems with his coaches, schoolwork, home life, and teammates. Slam never started in a game, and he knew that he was the best one. This was his problem. His teammates always told him that he had an attitude problem and that's why he never got to start, and Slam didn't like being told this. He only got out in when the team was losing, and he could bring them back for a win.

Three things that I enjoyed about this book is that young adults can easily relate to Slam. Anyone who loves to play basketball, but who are having trouble in school or anything else, are just like Slam. I liked the realism because it talked about one of Slam's friend, Ice, was drug dealing. This book doesn't hide the fact that there are drugs out in the world. One more thing that I liked about this novel was the attitude this book brought alive. In the book, Slam wouldn't give up playing ball even though he didn't start. It just made him work harder to get a starting spot on the team.

I recommend this book to anyone likes realistic books and sports. This is a great book for teenagers especially because they can relate to it more than others.

Summary: Great Book
Review: Slam is a great book to buy. It teaches you about a lot of things useful in life. I liked this book beacause I like sports and it has a lot about basketball. If you read this book you will learn how to deal with things. There is one thing that could have been better was the ending. I expected more. The author is good at keeping you reading. This is a great book to read.

Summary: Book for Vocabulary Challenged Students
Review: SLAM!, was written by Walter Dean Myers. It was not the best book I have read. I didn't like it very much because it wasn't challenging enough for me. There weren't enough advanced words, so I wasn't learning anything. The book was about a teenager who lived a hard life in the Bronx and how he had to deal with school and sports. HIs nickname was SLAM! because he could dunk over anybody on the court. Throughout the book you are listening to Slam's thoughts and feelings about things that happen to him and his family. Since he lives in a more rural area he has to try to stay out of drugs and violence like so many of his friends have. It is very hard for him to make it through life successfully. This book has a good lesson in it but can get kind of boring to an older reader after a while.

Summary: THE BEAUTIFUL PORTRAIT OF A BASKETBALL FIN-AM by W.D.M.
Review: Slam, a book by W.D.M. captures the life and glory of a 17 year old raw basketball talent named Greg Harris. The portriat of hsi life by Myers revolves around basketball and his struggles outside of basketball. I recommend this book to young people because it captures the similarity we young people have to go through in high school and outside of high school, like when Slam discovered his best friend since child hood was dealing drugs. He had to pick between the accepting the reality his best friend choosed to live and the focus of his life. A very book by Walter because it exemplifies some of the essence, ideologies and hardships young adults go through in society.

Summary: A Boy With Dreams
Review: Walter Dean Myers wrote this fantastic novel called Slam! In this story there's a 17 year old african american boy named Greg but they know him as "Slam". Slam has big dreams, one day he hopes to become a basketball player. But the hardest thing hes going through right now is switching schools. He's leaving everything behind, even the one girl he truly loves,Mitsha, and his best friend "Ice". In order for Slam to achive his goals he has to get good grades at his new school. Slam doesn't really get along with all of his teachers, but he'll have to realize that by him getting good grades he can make the High school varsity team. When slam tries out for the basketball team, he doesn't get the chance to play the position hes use too. Later on, on the story Slam accidently hits a teacher this inccident might ruin all of his plans of becoming a superstar. Slam has more and more parent conferences each and every day because of the problem between his math teacher and him.
As you can see this story is very good for teenagers my age. Alot of kids have dreams to become one of the best super athlets , and this story shows you how hard you have to work for it so that dream can actually come true.
