Summary: Do you love basketball?
Review: Slam! by Walter Dean Myers is an intersting fictional story of the life a 17 year-old boy from Harlem,New York. Greg Harris is great at basketball and loves to play; Greg is nicknamed "Slam" for his excellent skill in basketball. While reading this book you can learn many things in life and it's difficult situations.
Could you ever deal with this? Slam and Ice are high school basketball stars and best of friends, but when Slam gets transferred to a private school a lot of things change. Slam has problems with his coach, grades, teachers, grandmother, and his classmates. He even has a conflict with Ice who all the sudden has a lot of money in his hands, Slam didn't want to believe it but its a possibility that Ice was dealing drugs. Slam overcomes this hard times and takes his team to the basketball championship against his old school and his best friend. What happens when Slam confronts Ice on the court for the game...?
This book was absoultley amazing! With vivid details and a thrilling plot this book was great. The slang and real-life feel to the book made it even better. It was something I could relate to as a teenager who loves to play basketball. Two thumbs up is what I give it. I recommend this book to 12-18 year-olds.

Summary: Slam
Review: Slam by Walter Dean Myers is about a seventeen year old boy named Greg "Slam" Harris who is a great basketball player, but his grades aren't so good. The main characters are Greg, Moma, Ice, Mtisha, Ducky, and Derek. One problem is that Ice, Greg's best friend, is a great basketball player but he is into drug dealing and he started hanging out with gangsters. But he was still Greg's best friend. My favorite character was Slam because he is a great basketball player but his grades ar notgood just like me.

I can relate to Greg because he and I have the same problems like with school. We both have trouble with school and we don't like school because of the work.

The book was outstanding because I can relate to it. I really understood it. My favorite part of the book was when Greg's new school beat Ice and his old school, at a high school basketball game.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves basketball, ages 12 and up. Anyone who lives a tough life and has problems in school but is a great ball player should read this book.

And loves to hang out with his friends. He is a great student in school
And the best basketball player in his school. He has to best friends Ice and kiki.
Ice is a great basketball player to but he is starting to hang out
With the wrong crowd. Slam tries to help him out but he just does
Not listen. He is starting to hang around with people that are into drugs.
For slams basketball team he does not get along well with his coach.
He doesn't even start him and he barley even plays him. The reason for that is because slam
Beat him in a basketball game. But every time he puts slam in slams does good.
Slam gets about 11 points a game and thats really good for only playing
about a quarter long. And that is what I wanted to tell you about my audio book.

Fiction

The theme of this book is: If you work hard at something, you will eventually achieve it.

I would recommend this book to all teenagers of all racial backgrouds because everyone can relate to it.

The story started out introducing all of Greg "Slam" Harris' family members. Greg and his family lives in a suburb house in the "hood". Greg has the potential to go all the way to the professional leagues in basketball if he just keeps his grades right in school. Greg just switched schools from the all black Carver, to the predominately white Latimer. This new school is much more strict on the curriculum and it is showing through his grades. Another problem is that everytime a teacher tells Greg about his grades, he just gets mad and doesn't want to hear it. Greg was helped by a tutor and started to do better in his school work. Next, Greg was faced with another problem. His friend "Ice" was selling drugs, but Greg did not know how to bring up the issue to him without Ice thinking he is dissing him. With the love of basketball, Greg brought his friend in the right direction.

This book will be very memorable for me, because it showed me how to overcome certain struggles in my life. This book kept me wanting to read more and more.

The only mattre that the book left out in my opinion, was the fact that the audience does not know what Greg does after high school. I wanted to know if he really went to the pros or not.

The book affected me in the fact that when something will seem hard for me, I will strive to work harder.

This book was very enjoyable and entertaining, and I wish that everyone could read this book because it teaches humans how to keep special relationships work.

Review: Slam!, by Walter Dean Myers, is about a guy named Gregg Harris. But everyone calls him slam, because he is amazing at basketball. Gregg gets moved to a new school called Latimer school of arts. He used to go to Carver but he got switched. He is one of the only black kids in the school. At carver there were a lot of black kids. He tries out for the Latimer basketball team, but the coach doesn't let him play. At the end of practice Gregg plays the coach 1 on 1 and Gregg schools him. Coach lets him on the team. But Gregg only plays when they are losing, and he brings them back. Gregg also finds out that his best friend back at Carver is dealing drugs and getting a lot of money for it. Gregg doesn't no whether to stop him or let it roll. Walter Dean Myers tries to tell you throughout the book that life's hard and you have to try. This book is a great read. It would be good for anyone who likes basketball. Also anyone in grades 7 and higher because of some slang words and other stuff like that.

Summary: Slam! Review
Review: Recently in my literature class we read Slam!. The book is one of the best stories about life that I have ever read. Walter Dean Myers really did a good job writing a book about someone's life experiences. I took the time to really read it. I rarely ever read a book that a teacher assigns unless it is really good. I loved this book, I was ahead of the rest of the class the second day that we started reading the book. I gave the time to read it twice just so I could give the right review.
It is a book with mixed styles of writing, (mystery, adventure, etc....). This book is a mystery inside of an adventure. I really love mysteries but the adventure part of the book added to the book. The main point of this book is about a 15-year-old boy named Slam. He has a big attitude problem, and thinks he is better than everybody else. He learns throughout the book that his attitude isn't going to get him anywhere and that he needs to straighten up, or he will never go play college ball.
Right before he starts the school year he has to transfer schools, he was going to a city school and then he goes to a prep school where he doesn't really like to go. He has a friend at the city school named Ice, it is his best friend, they grew up together and now someone else thinks Ice is dealing drugs. The person who thinks he is dealing is a girl named Mtisha. Slam and her are like boyfriend and girlfriend but they do not say it. That is the mystery part of the whole book. Myers lets it flow through the whole book. That is all I am going to tell you about the book, I don't want to give the whole thing away.
On a rating scale of 1-10 I would give this book a 9. I would recommend you to read this book if you like sports. It is one of the best sport books ever written in my opinion because of the detail used in the games, and the real life experiences off the court.

Summary: ~~~SLAM INTO DREAMS~~~
Review: I think that this book has been one of my favorites book that I have read! This book is awsome for teenagers, cause this book is like a basic life of teenagers dreaming for what they want to be in life. For example this book relates to my life cause I got dreams like "SLAM" did who dreams where to be a famous basketball player, and me been a famous football player. This books also talks about true love and friendship. Slam was messing with two girls (Mtisha & Kicky), which mostly of us guys do this days, which is good and bad. But at the end Slam listen to his heart which his love was Mtisha. Slam was a nice guy with his friends cause he try to help them, cause one of his friend was a crack head, so he didnt like that, and he didnt wanted to be one either. Slam was one of the best player for his school which was Carver in Harlem. At the end of the book Slam scores the winning point which took his team to the CHAMPIONSHIP. Thing that i'm planning to do..hahaha..if I can. Well I hope you guys who read this agree with me, which this book base on life of teenagers.

Summary: Slam
Review: Slam, by Walter Dean Myers was a interesting book. It was about 17-year-old Greg Harris from Harlem, New York. This is a ideal book for African American kids because it deals with the everyday struggles they have to go through. Greg is a basketball player and his friends call him Slam! because of the way he slams the ball into the hoop. But the book is not all about basketball. Greg has to find out if his friend is doing dangerous things behind his back that could be life threatening. Along with that he still has school that he isn't doing well in and a girl friend on the side named Mtisha. While Slam is dealing with all his struggles on the side he plays basketball to relive stress. The stress from all the things he is going through like school, his grandmother being sick, his little brother Derrick being a pain, his best friend Ice being in trouble, basketball, and a girlfriend. He still has time for Basketball. I recommend this book for African American teenagers around the world.

Summary: Slam!
Review: This is a great book about a young man you struggles to juggle many things into his life, but the most important is basketball.
17 year old greg harris other wise known as slam from his proformance out on the court has just moved from his old school "carver" to his new predominately white school and he is one of the few blacks. Slam is trying to juggle his school work which he is struggling in, his friends and girl friends, trying to vist his sick grandma in the hospital as much as possible but most imporntanly trying to lead his basketball team to a champion chip. I realy like the way that he is the narrator of his own story, it gives you a better idea of his struggles. i would recoment this book to any one who is looking for inspuration and any one who loves the game of basketball.
