Summary: Hmmm....
Review: I picked this book up at a used book store for a quarter, thinking either it would be awesome and I would have gotten a real deal (the price tag on the back saying the real price was six fifty) or it would be bad but it wouldn't matter 'cause I got it for so cheap. Well, it's definately different than any other book I've read, and not different in a bad way...but it's not that great either.

Dicey, James, Maybeth, and Sammy are all brother and sister, and one day their mom leaves them in a car in the parking lot of a mall in a small town. Dicey takes it upon herself to get the family to their destination - Aunt Cilla's house in Bridgeport. What Dicey and co. don't know is pretty bad: it's over a one-week walk to Aunt Cilla's. Dicey and James both try to get work to buy food, while Sammy and Maybeth fish. The kids sleep at a campground, in a partially built house, and even a college kid's dorm room! When they get to Aunt Cilla's...she's dead. Cousin Eunice is there now, and she's absolutely wretched. SHe makes Dicey work, and even dares to call Maybeth retarded!

So, the kids set off on their journey once again, to their grandmother's house. Will everything work out in the end?

This book was good, but it did get really slow after a while. It could have easily been reduced to under 300 pages and still been good. So, in short - a nice "rainy-day" read, but nothing too super here.

Overall grade - C+

Summary: Watership Down Book Review
Review: Watership Down

I read the book Watership Down. Watership Down is about a group of rabbits that knew that something bad was going to happen to their home warren. The rabbits left to find a new place to live. The trip to their new home was dangerous, once they got there; they had a nice home, but more problems to deal with. What I liked about the novel was that everything seemed real! For example, all of the times that the rabbits between warrens were fighting, their movements and actions seemed very realistic. This novel is different, than any other that I have read. I have read books about animals, but I have never read a novel that consisted of all talking rabbits. Although it was different, I still enjoyed it.

My overall impression of this novel is that it was a very good book, but sometimes a little bit hard to read because of all of the different plant names and different words that I did not know until after I read the book. Even though the book had its own glossary, it was still a little bit confusing. Once you get passed the new words, and get to the action of the rabbits, it is really fun to read, and makes you wonder what will happen next. I would recommend this book to someone who can stick with a book even if it starts out slowly. Once you get passed the slower part in the beginning, you will love this book.

My favorite character in the book was Hazel, because he always did the right thing. His main goal was to have his warren be successful, and have the rabbits that lived there be happy. He also didn't think himself to good to listen to Fiver when he had good advice to give. I liked Hazel also because throughout the book, even when he injured his leg, he still fought for the good and the survival of his friends and the warren. For example, he risked his life to make sure that the warren had does, so that the warren could stay running smoothly. I recommend reading this book and enjoying finding out about all of the different adventures ahead of these rabbits!

Summary: A sad and unfortunate story that turns out alright
Review: Dicey is 13 when her mother leaves them in a parking lot, away from home and headed for their great-aunt's house. Now Dicey and her siblings (James-10, Maybeth-9, and Sammy-6) are all alone with no where to go but foreward, hoping to find their mother at their great-aunt's, but then their great-aunt isn't even there! Just her daughter! Dicey doesn't know what to do and wishes her mother hadn't left them, and her father long before that. Cynthia Voigt is such a wonderful author. All of her books are great.

Summary: Homecoming
Review: I really like the book homecoming. It is a really hard book to put down because you always want to see what happens next. For example when the Tillerman's were in the parking lot waiting for their mom you wonder if she is going to come back or if she is going to leave them abandon, you also wonder if they are going to have enough money for food and other necessities, and at the end when they are at their gram's house you want to know if they are going to be able to stay or if they are going to have to go back and live with their cousin Eunice in Bridgeport. I think this story is sort of similar to the other books that I read because for an example in Watership Downs they have to go off because they think that there is danger where they are living. They have to leave just like the Tillermans did in Homecoming. I would recommend this story to people who like adventurous stories or just like to read. Homecoming is one of my favorite books and only takes a couple days to read because it is so well written. If you take the time to read this book I know that you and many others would like this book too.

Summary: homecoming
Review: I really enjoyed reading Homecoming this summer. this book is about how Dicey, James, Maybeth, and Sammy figured out ways to survive in very tough situations, and how they thought of clever ways to earn money. I particularly liked how they carried groceries for people, and how they could find empty houses and parks to sleep in at night. I also liked how each character in the book had a separate personality and didn't change who they were, or how they acted throughout the book. I especially like Sammy as a character, how he was always stubborn, and got into fights a lot.
This was a very good novel. It is probably one of my top twenty favorite books. I like stories of survival and mystery, and this novel had both of those particular qualities. Overall I thought Homecoming was a really great book and I would recommend it to anybody. It is really hard to put down. Once you start reading, you want to find out what will happen next and soon enough you have finished the book. Cynthia Voigt is a great writer, and I can't wait to read the next books in the series.

Review: Review on Homecoming

As I was reading this book, I noticed how exciting this book was; Dicey, James, Sammy and Maybeth's journey trying to find a home for themselves. I really liked how the Tillerman children went on in their life and kept on going on their arduous journey to their Aunt Cilla's house. When they first started their journey, they found out after their first day of walking that they had only walked one or two miles and that it would take weeks to get to their destination, however, they did not stop. They pushed themselves because they knew that it was the only way to survive(they couldn't just stop where they are and give up just like their mother did because then there would be no chance of succeeding). Their mother just got too stressed out and gave up. They knew that they could not give up.
This book I thought was the best out of the four books that I read. Dicey's Song was not about the journey the Tillermans were on as it was in Homecoming. It was more like a beginning of a new life for the Tillermen children. I mostly tend to like books that are like journeys or adventures, however there are some exceptions for books that I read in 6th grade. I really did not like Watership Down because I found it boring and difficult for me to understand the detail. If the book was about people instead of animals, there would have been a possibility that I would have liked it. The Fifth Chinese Daughter was tolerable. It made me mad when I read how strict the Chinese culture is. For example, questioning a teacher is forbidden. Sometimes teachers can be wrong. Another example is that wearing slippers in Jade's house is not allowed. I really got to like Homecoming and how the children dealt with the fact that they had no parents.
I thought that the book, Homecoming was interesting and enjoyable to read. Since I am not really a reader, I was surprised I really liked the book. It kept me entertained most of the time. I would recommend this book to anyone I thought would appreciate it because I think that this book shows leadership and courage which everyone can learn from.

Summary: True Heroism
Review: This is the best example I have read of "You do what you gotta do." Some have said that a thirteen year old couldn't have done the things that Dicey did, but I believe that she certainly could. She had grown up taking care of James, Maybeth, and Sammy, so taking care of them on the road was not much different. Dicey did whatever she had to do to take care of them and get them to Aunt Cilla's. This was a fantastic, poignant book that I highly recommend.

Summary: I'm Coming
Review: The book homecoming was a great adventure book. Their mother left four kids in a car one day while buying groceries. She never comes back. Their first journey was to get to Aunt Cilla's house. They had to get jobs so they could buy food. Finally they arrived to their Aunt's house. Instead of finding their Aunt, they found their Cousin Eunice. Soon that week, they started another journey to find their grandma in Crisfield. On the trip they had bad times but, they soon got to the grandma's house. The grandma wasn't sure of letting them stay but, then she let them call it home. Maybe this time it will be a permanent home. I would recommend this book to people who are dieing for an adventure.

Summary: Homecoming
Review: This book was good. ...The book was about 4 kids who abandoned and they have to find a home. They decide to go to their cousins then the story changes and they start a new journey. The book was good when Mr. Rudyard (who is a psychopath chases them). He chases them with a rabid dog. But of course none of them get harmed.

Summary: Homecoming
Review: This book was on and off. In the beginning it was good, but then as it went along it became boring. It was the same thing every single chapter in the beginning. They walk they sleep they walk they sleep.BORING!!! Finally they make it to aunt Cilla's and since the books not even half done....the obvious happens Aunts Cilla's dead and not rich or anything like the letter said. Instead her daugter Eunice the kids cousin are there. She decides to take them. She a mean old lady whos obsessed with being clean. She gives Diicey like 100 chores a day and no ime for fun or school. Eunice decides to adopt them but she doesn't really like Sammy beacuse hes stubborn and disrespectful so she started thinking about putting just him in a foster home. Yup I bet you guessed what happened next Dicey takes the kids and leaves to go to her grandmother's. This means more boring walking. The next like 3 or 4 chapter is them going to grandmother's. Walk, rest, walk, rest. Finally they get to grandmother and she's a mean crazy old lady. She doesn't want the kids but lets the stay the night then the next and the next and then they stayed for about 4 days. Now grandmother was growing soft and started liking the kids. She enrolled them in school because she wasn't sure how long they were staying. Finally at the end Dicey says something to grandmother and the predictable thing happens, grandmother lets them stay. As you can see from my review I would not recommend this book.
