Summary: Not the Best Book Ever
Review: Homecoming is a hard book to get into. It was an enjoyable book, but it took a while to get me glued into the book. The author, Cynthia Voigt, writes about six chapters about four kids on their journey to find their family. All they do is walk and try to figure out how they can find food, a place to stay, and how they're going to get money. The four kids start this journey because their mom just abandons them in a parking lot, not telling them anything. She leaves the oldest one, Dicey age thirteen, in charge of the three youngest, James (age ten), Maybeth (age nine), and Sammy (the youngest). They experience many different adventures, some good, some not so good. They finally get to their destination, their cousins house. They are happy there, but Dicey thought it would be better to go to their grandmother's (who they have never met). The four Tillermans kids had a tough, difficult adventure, but they met some wonderful people that helped them on their way! I wouldn't recommend to many people. I thought it was tiring reading about four kids walking for a quarter of the book.

Summary: Sibling Unity
Review: I am a fan of the Tillerman series. In this first book of the series, Voigt introduces us to Dicey, a strong-willed young lady who has to bring her siblings from Peewauket to Connecticut to search for their mother- via leg mobile. Having little more than 11 dollars, they begin their journey without any idea of what lies ahead. Voigt offers beautiful storytelling here. She succesfully depicted the love and unity between Dicey and her siblings. Voigt's style is extremely appealing, simple with touches of humour and drama. In short "Homecoming" is a tale wonderfully told, making it a rare gem. Thumbs up for Voigt!!

Summary: Homecoming
Review: I really enjoyed reading Homecoming this summer. I liked how the children figured out ways to survive in very tough situations, and how they thought of clever ways to earn money. I particularly liked how they carried groceries for people, and how they could find empty houses and parks to sleep in at night. I also liked how each character in the book had a separate personality and didn't change who they were, or how they acted throughout the book. I especially like Sammy as a character, how he was always stubborn, and got into fights a lot.
This was a very good novel. It is probably one of my top twenty favorite books. I like stories of survival and mystery, and this novel had both of those particular qualities. Overall I thought Homecoming was a really great book and I would recommend it to anybody. It is really hard to put down. Once you start reading, you want to find out what will happen next and soon enough you have finished the book. Cynthia Voigt is a great writer, and I can't wait to read the next books in the series.

Summary: Homecome Book Review
Review: Homecoming, by Cynthia Voigt is a terrific and well-written novel sharing the tragedies and triumphs a family of four experienced. Throughout the entire book you will fine yourself cheering for the protagonist, Dicey, and her younger siblings (James, Maybeth, and Sammy) as they struggle to seek a suitable home after their mentally ill mother abandons them. Homecoming sets the standards for books young adults read because of its entertaining taste of "the real world". This exciting story is filled with fun and I highly recommend it. I particularly enjoyed the plot, characters, and conflicts found in the novel Homecoming.
The plot of Homecoming was very unique and heartbreaking. The story started off in Provincetown, Massachusetts where Dicey, James, Maybeth, and Sammy Tillerman's mom abandoned them in a shopping mall parking lot. Due to current financial difficulties the family was heading to Bridge Port, Massachusetts to live their wealthy Aunt Cilla. With no mother and little money left the children decided to continue their trip to Bridge Port hoping to be reunited with their mother. The children set off by foot on the open road. Traveling miles a day the youngsters were soon overtaken with fatigue. They spent a few days resting in a state park/campsite where they met Louis and Edie who were teenage runaways in love. When their energy level was back to its peak the family continued on to Bridge Port. One rainy night the children stopped in a local park to spend the night. Windy, a man who attended the nearby college, noticed them and helped them out by feeding them and giving them a place to sleep. The next morning Stewart, Windy's roommate, drove the Tillermans the rest of the way to Bridge Port, where they stayed with their cousin Eunice. Eunice was a devout Christian and felt it was her duty to take these children in. The 50-year-old woman was not very happy with herself for doing so, however. It was not that the children were so terrible; it was more that Eunice was a crabby lady who had become accustomed to her way of life. When thoughts of putting the children into separate foster homes came into the cousin's head the children quickly made like a banana and split. They headed for the town of Crisfield, which was where their grandmother lived.
Cynthia Voigt did a superb job developing the characters of Homecoming. Each one had their own distinctive qualities that added to the joy of reading this novel. For instance, there was Dicey, the leader and the oldest of the Tillerman children. She was loving and caring of her younger siblings and sure always made sure they had money, food and appropriate shelter for he night. Dicey always stuck up for her family and would argue to protect them. Then there was James. James was the second oldest of the four-some. He was highly intelligent and loved school and reading. Although James could be disobedient at times, for the most part he followed Dicey's orders. Next we have Maybeth, the third oldest. Maybeth was shy and quiet. Many people would mistake her for being retarded. She was always polite and obedient. The last and youngest of the Tillerman's clan was Sammy who is best described as a little rascal, Sammy was stubborn and quick to disobey Dicey, although he didn't always do it to be mean or difficult. Another important character is "Gram", the Tillerman's mother's crazy mother. Gram was very similar to Dicey, not willing to lose an argument. She was loving, but also had an extremely rough outer shell.
The conflicts in Homecoming are what gave this novel its pizzazz. Dicey had an internal conflict with herself over where and how her family would sleep and eat each day of their journey. She also had a conflict with cousin Eunice. The two girls didn't get along well together. Dicey had so much personality and Eunice was a very plain person. After the idea of foster homes came about there was no way Dicey would allow her family to remain at this residence any longer. Another conflict was between Dicey and her grandmother. Dicey was told her family could not stay at Ab Tillerman's house but somehow she managed each day to argue one more night's stay for herself and her family.
Homecoming had dazzling character development, a brilliant plot, and many out of the ordinary conflicts for the Tillermans to overcome. I recommend this book for many reason, two of them being that the book was believable, yet it took you away from your everyday life. The book also kept your attention and was impossible to put down. You couldn't stop reading it because you had to make sure hat the Tillermans were okay and that they made it to their next location safely. I immensely enjoyed reading the novel Homecoming.

Review: If you were a mother with no husband to provide for your children and could not pay rent anymore because you were fired from a job, what would you do? the Tillermans mother decided to abandon her children with nothing but a map and eleven dollars. this is the start of the novel Homeconing by Chyntia Voight. These kids have to find out how to get to their aunts house by foot. As they struggle to pass by miles and miles of road, walking in any condition rain or shine just to avoid being orphans and living with other abandon children. Do you think the Tillerman children would be able to survive mentaly and phicically? Theres only one way to find out. I think this book was great and very interesting because most of the book I have read in the begining are boring causing me to close the book but this book from the begining I was asking all of these questions. I would recomend this book to people of all ages.

Summary: Homecoming
Review: How would you feel if your mother left you in a mall parking lot? Homecoming is a book that deals with a mother living her four children in a mall parking lot. Dicey is the main character and has a whole lot of responsible for being 12 years old. She has to take her three siblings to her aunt's house. The only thing is that her aunts house is about two-hunndred miles away. Dicey's younger siblings are james-ten years old,Sammy-seven years old,and Marybeth who is six years old. Diceys mother is a little bit crazy, she left her kids in a mall parking lot and told them to do what dicey tells them to do. Throughtout the book, the kids face danger-thing we would not want to face. You learn a lot about the characters and you will feel like you are there walking along the roads with them. This book opeans your eyes to the fact that parents that do not want their childern just leave them places.
I recommend this book to all people in the ages of 13 and up. These people would mostly like this book because it deals with things that younger kids just might not understand. It does not matter if you are female or male, you will like the book any way. This book was a page-turner because you want to find out what happend to the children at the end of the book. This book is a book that you can really get into just by reading the first pages. The genre was fiction, i really enjoy reading this kind of book because they are easy to get into. I liked this book because Dicey has to take care of her three younger siblings and try to get them safe to their aunts house. The plot in this story was very believable because any mother or father could just not want their child any more and just let them loose in a car parking lot.

The end

Summary: Homecoming
Review: Dicey, James, Maybeth and Sammy Tillerman have had more adventures, troubles and traveling than most people have had in their entire lifetimes. For a girl who's only 13, she is very responsible and definitely loves her family. After their mother abandoned them, she had to be. They had to walk a long way to Bridgeport, CT. But Cousin Eunice didn't want them and kept saying how they ruined her plans for her life. They walked all that way only to find that they would be going on even farther. Along the way they meet some people; some that are helpful and some that are not. Staying together is one of the most important things to her. Once they arrive at Crisfield they help their grandmother with the farm, fields and house. She really wanted them to stay but she didn't think she had enough money for them. I'm glad Gram kept them because it made her life more interesting and it gave her a second chance to be a mother again. She had been known as a crazy old lady, but with them coming into her life she's "alive" again.

Summary: The Journey
Review: Dicey, James, Maybeth, and Sammy are the four Tillerman children. They have a momma who is mentally crazy and abandons them in the middle of a parking lot somewhere in Rhode Island. Dicey, the oldest, takes over and decides to continue their journey to Bridgeport, CT which was their original destination. Their Aunt Cilla lives there and they have the address; it was their only choice. They walk and walk while also carefully spending very little money since they have an amount of about eleven dollars and some odd change. The kids camp, try to find work for money, sleep in old deserted houses, and walk a lot. The most important thing in Dicey's mind during their journey is keeping her family together. They meet some nice people, some not so nice and still get along, but when they reahc Bridgeport it's not a happy ending. They decide that the home with cousin Eunice, Aunt Cilla's daughter since Aunt Cilla is dead, is not right. Then they must travel further on to their grandmother's. Their journey to Crisfield, Maryland was a little nicer considering that they could take a bus part of the way because they now had some money. They end up needing to walk and part way through they meet two boys who sail them closer to their destination. Their gramma is known to be crazy, but still when they arrive in Crisfield Dicey takes a chance and goes to meet her gramma. The woman doesn't answer the door but when Dicey walks around back it proves that Dicey has courage. Gram is what the children end up calling this stubborn, but nice woman. You end up having a liking to Gram. I loved the ending!
