Rating: Summary: You gotta love this book. Review: Take a self descirbed "blimp" with issues and bittersweet sense of humor and give her an English teacher that actually makes her want to learn, and you get the scene at Marcy's jr. high school. That is, until the jerk-off principal busts Ms. Finney for not saying the pledge of alligence(!). So Marcy takes a stand for what she believes in and the results aren't always too pretty. Bottom line? The whole thing is very realistic and I'm sure many people have at least some of Marcy's problems and can realate. Even if you can't, read it cause it'll make you laugh!!!
Rating: Summary: cat ate my review Review: The book was about a girl who was a loner. One day she had a new English teacher. They were great friends and they made an after school club. One day the teacher got fired. She got fired because none of the teachers liked the way she taught. The students wanted her back. I liked this book becase I understood it well and it's funny and it's not very long. I recommend this book because it's a nice book and it's not boring and it's not a sad story.
Rating: Summary: The Cat ate My Gym-suit Review: The Cat ate My Gym-suit The book The Cat ate my Gym-suit by Paula Danzinger takes place in a small little town, around the 1900's. The main character in this book was Marcy; she is the reason why the author chose the purpose of this book (self-confidence.) I think she chose the topic of this book because Marcy didn't have very much confidence in herself and meeting Joel and becoming better friends with Marcy made her feel a lot more appreciated by people. Another character was Joel, Joel and Marcy grew to be very good friends. This book was a good book because it's a very good help to someone who lacks self- confidence. In this book Marcy grows to have many new friends. A really important event was when Marcy and Joel meet. This was important because Joel made Marcy feel really good about her. My favorite character was Marcy because she was her own person and really didn't care what other people thought even though she lacked self-confidence. I also liked her because of her personality. She was very different. She liked doing things that not many people liked to do. This novel was a very good lesson for me. It taught me not to under estimate myself. I would recommend this book to someone who likes autobiographies. They would like this book because Marcy talks a lot about her life in this book. I liked this book because it was an autobiography and because Marcy was a really good character, Marcy just totally fit the story. So go to your local library and I guarantee it will be the best book you have ever read!
Rating: Summary: A Teenagers Real Life Situation Review: THE CAT ATE MY GYMSUIT By Paula Danziger I had just read this book a year ago, when I was in seventh grade. I really liked "The Cat ate my Gymsuit". I thought it dealt with a lot of real life problems that most teenagers deal with. It was about a girl in seventh grade named Marcy, who was overweight, had a lot of acne, and had barely any friends. In gym class she made up excuses why she couldn't play gym, because she didn't want to change in front of everyone else, because she thought she was fat. She also hated her dad because he always made fun of her, and makes her mom cry. Until one day at school, their class had a new teacher who turned Marcy's life around. But the other teachers didn't like her teaching method and try to fire her. The students try to fight to save her. This was a really good book. I would read it again if I could. I would also recommend this book to be in classrooms everywhere!

Rating: Summary: Good young adult choice Review: The Cat Ate My Gymsuit is a standard "topical" young adult novel. At times it seems a little bit forced in the sense that the authror is trying very hard to show how much her characters suffer from the same concerns, fears, etc. of adolescents. But overall the characters fit smoothly into the plot and the events are realistic / interesting. A few too MANY problems are addressed--abusive parents, drug dependency, and alternative teaching methods--but the solid and believable ending make up for the shortcomings. Overall a good choice.
Rating: Summary: The Cat Ate My Gymsuit Review: The Cat Ate My Gymsuit is a wonderful book about a girl who is overweight, and trys to survive in her school, when a new teacher comes. Ms.Finny is a unique individual who is not afraid to stand up for different issues. You could say she's like an activist. But when she's fired for not saying the pledge of allegance at a presentation at school, everyone's upset. I gave this book Five Stars, because I believe that this book is deffinately one of the best books I've read. Paula Danziger is a great author, and I have loved all of her other books just as much as this one.
Rating: Summary: Teaching a Difference. Review: THE CAT ATE MY GYMSUIT is a young adult novel directed towards females, though males who read the book with an open mind may find they enjoy it as well.
The story is told from the perspective of Marcy Lewis. Marcy Lewis is thirteen, in the ninth-grade, and thinks she looks like a blimp. Marcy has a father who yells a lot and usually doesn't have many kind words to say. Marcy does well in school, but is very shy and bashful. Then one day Marcy's class gets a new English teacher, Ms. Finney. Ms. Finney is unlike any teacher the students have ever had: she doesn't dress the same as the other teachers, she doesn't act the same as the other teachers, she doesn't teach the same as the other teachers. However, Ms. Finney's unorthodox teaching methods and strong beliefs eventually lead to her suspension. Finney's suspension causes the students to plan a rebellion and Marcy becomes one of the leaders. The turmoil at school leads to greater tension at home and Marcy has to decide whether to support Ms. Finney or agree with her father and, "Learn to play by the rules."
While reading THE CAT ATE MY GYMSUIT, I couldn't but help compare the book to the movie DEAD POET'S SOCIETY. There are some major differences between the two pieces, yet there are also some striking similarities. Anyone who has ever seen DEAD POET'S SOCIETY can appreciate the central message that is conveyed and the story that is told in THE CAT ATE MY GYMSUIT. Both pieces have a lot to say about the impact that one good teacher can have upon a student's life. Teaching really is a noble profession.
