Summary: This book was incredibly confusing , to many things at once
Review: The Tale of Two Cites was a verey intresting book at first it was just fine , not confusing at all. Then as you on go on in the book it gets very confusing. Like how it goes between the two cites. But for the most part it was a very intresting book

Summary: A good story about the French Revolution.
Review: A Tale of Two cities to me, was a good story. I liked how it took place during the French Revolution. I also liked how the characters were well brought out in the novel. Charles Darnay was my favorie character. I liked how he was always there for his friends and his loved ones. Sidney Carton also was one of my favorite characters. I liked how he took the place of Darnay so Darnay could still live and be with his wife and child. Even though Carton loved Luciee too, he did what he thought was best. I liked how there were bad and good guys in the story also. I think it should've ended in a different way though. But other than that, the story was very good in my opionion and I think more people in the world should read it.

Summary: THIS WAS THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ!
Review: THIS BOOK WAS LIKE THE MOVIE THE FUGITIVE. SINCE I'M ONLY IN THE SEVENTH GRADE I WOULDN'T KNOW. BUT, I RECOMEND EVERYONE ON EARTH TO READ IT. I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP!

Summary: A wonderful book! So glad it's required!
Review: When I was handed this book, I looked at the fairly lengthy thing with the teensy writing, and thought, this?-THIS is the book that is my mother's favorite-and one of my sister's?. This was the one book I was determined to keep up in with the class, however, so I started to tackle it. Am I ever glad I did! This is such a wonderful book. Thank you, Charles Dickens for giving us such a classic piece of literature! My favorite character was-who else?-Sydney Carton. All the English teachers out there who teach this book-thank you! Please know that although most of your students complain about it, there are those who absolutely love it. It was slow in taking off, but what great book isn't? Thank you all again to all the English teachers-years from now, i hope that your students realize how wonderful this book truly is.

Summary: Dickens rambles on way too much
Review: I feel this could have been a better book had he not been paid for its length. It takes him too long to say simple things. If you hated Old Man and the Sea, you too will hate this.

Summary: Fantastic Book!
Review: This story just swept me away. It starts out with a wonderful description of the historical setting, but gradually begins to tell a completely personal story of someone who doesn't really fit into the world that is presented...rather like the reader. In any case, though the outcome of the French Revolution is known, the fate of the protagonists is completely unexpected. Even though I knew the ending, I couldn't help crying at the end, it was so wonderful. I feel sorry for anyone who is forced to read this great book in school and doesn't understand it. Whoever you are, I hope you try reading it again for yourself at some stage. Otherwise you will never know what you are missing! The afterword to this edition is also especially insightful and I enjoyed it very much as well.

Summary: WONDERFUL!
Review: As far as I'm concerned, this is one the best books I was EVER required to read. I do admit that at first, I didn't quite catch everything, so I did have to go through and re-read some parts, but it was well worth it. The novel doesn't come together until the end [which, in my case, kept my attention], and made the book that much more enjoyable.

Summary: Worth reading, but patience is required
Review: If you can make it past the first 150 pages of the book then you're on your way to enjoying it, it's a good story, but the beginning is torture. If during the first 150 pages some freak had stolen the book from me, I would have been quite happy, and read a box of cereal instead. This box of cereal would have quite impressed me with its entertainment value. So if you like brief suffering followed by a long term pay off, then I recommend this book. The story eventually takes off, and happily you discover that 25 hours of your life have not been lost in vain.

Summary: The Greatest "Super-Plot" ever written
Review: I noticed most of the reviews were written by high school students; thus, being a high school English teacher, I felt obliged to respond. I teach all seniors, and we read the book each year. Most of them, I will admit, do not like reading. I, on the other hand, feel there is no greater pastime. One argument I hear often is, "It's not a good book because I can't understand it." Balderdash. I simply tell them they can't understand it because it IS a good book. The plot is, as my summary says, "super-thick." But it is not Dickens' fault if the reader, whatever age, cannot pick the details. He wrote novels. And yes, they are full of exposition and detail (he did not overdo it--English teacher thinking, of course). But an intensive study of anything, especially Dickens, requires reader effort. The most unfortunate thing about A Tale of Two Cities is most people, students and adults alike, would never rush into a book store and purchase it for pleasure reading. It is, in my opinion, the greatest novel ever written. Some have said, "I believe Dickens is a good writer, but I didn't like the book." Hogwash. That statement is based on popularity. I don't care for Hitler, even though he was popular. Others have said, "Dickens is a great writer who has written a lot of good books; I just didn't like ATOTC." Again, hogwash. Those folks have no more read Dickens' "good books," which they all are not, than the next person. I do thank all of the teachers out there who have assigned the novel. I do not thank the teachers who have simply put the novel into a student's hand and said, Read!" and have offered little help. And to all the students who have given Dickens a chance, whether you liked him or no, I must extend to you a sincere, "Thank You." If you like him and the novel, great. If you don't like him and the novel, make sure you know why, and don't let it be because you don't understand it or because he uses too much detail. Actually, he could stand to add detail, but that's another essay.

Summary: Heartfelt and Amazing
Review: I admit, the fist chapters of this book were EXTREMELY boring. I had to force myself to read it, but later, you are rewarded! I couldn't put the book down! Dickins has a way of making each event important to the story. The part that got me hooked was the immense and heatwrenching courage of a man in love. I loved this book, even though I started off hating it!
