Rating: Summary: Meg Cabot always writes really great heroines Review: Susannah's mother has just gotten married and she's forced to move across the country to live with her new stepfather and three stepbrothers. Fortunately she makes new friends quickly. Unfortunately there's also a pair of ghosts making her life miserable. You see, Susannah is a mediator and it's her job to help ghosts move on to the afterlife but it's not so easy to get certain ghosts to move on.This is the first book in The Mediator series written by Princess Diaries author, Meg Cabot. I really enjoyed this book. The plot was pretty run of the mill but I really liked the heroine. I love it when heroines are a little bit of a witch. I liked some of the supporting characters as well. Fans of teen horror or just good teen fiction should really give this series a try. I'm totally hooked and I hope to get my hands on the rest of the series very soon.
Rating: Summary: Great beginning to a thrilling series! Review: Susannah---Suze for short--- Simmon has just moved from her longtime home of New York City to the quiet town of Carmel, California to live with her new family which consists of, unfortunately, three new stepbrothers who Suze has nicknamed Sleepy, Dopey, and Doc. Besides that her new life is actrully pretty cool. That is until she finds a 150 year old hot ghost named Jesse living in her bedroom. You see, Suze is a mediator---a person who guards wayward souls back to their final resting places, wherever that might be. For Suze, this gift she has is more like a curse. But at least this new ghost who is sharing her bedroom is pretty attractive, not like Heather, the crazy ghost at her school who is out to revenge her own suicide. It looks to Suze like alittle talking isn't going to help getting Heather back where she should be...it is time for some action. This was a pretty thrilling beginning to the Mediator series. I didn't really expect Jenny Carroll to write a book like this but I do think this was a pretty good book. Coupled with some humor, and twist and turns that keep you guessing this book is definitely to be read.
Rating: Summary: Wow-excitment, intrigue, humor and a good time. Review: Suze Simon is a teen who defines shero. She's tough, fun, witty and is surrounded by a great group of friends and ghosts. Jenny Carroll has got a winner here, I am waiting anxiously for the next book in the series, until then I'll have to make due with Buffy.
Rating: Summary: New and Better Ghostbuster Review: Suze Simon is a teenage counselor of sorts--but for ghosts instead of her friends. She must help the un-dead resolve issues from their former lives on Earth so they can move onto the next world. This new series from Jenny Carroll gets off to a great start in Shadowland. The writing moves along at a speedy, yet comfortable pace. The main character, Suze, comes across clear, strong and well defined. The backup cast is made up of an ecclectic group of her school peers, and I can't wait to learn more about them. This is an awesomely fun tale of teenage ghostbusting. I eagerly look forward to the second book in this series, and recommend The Mediator: Shadowland to anyone looking for a good yarn which is part comedy and part thriller.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites, from the POV of a 15-year-old Review: Suze Simon wants to fit in, like any other normal sixteen-year-old girl. But oh, yeah, there is one problem--she is a mediator, one who can see and communicate with the souls of the dead who have not passed onto the next world. This can put a damper on one's social life, and for fourteen years Suze has been helping and battling these ghosts to get them to move onto heaven, hell, reincarnation--whatever. So when her mother remarries and she moves from NYC to California, Suze hopes to get a fresh start where no one knows who she is. She at least wants to attempt to snag a boyfriend. But it soon becomes clear that there is no rest for the weary--on top of the addition of three (unwanted) stepbrothers and leaving her best friend behind in New York, there's Jesse, the (granted, very very hot) Latino ghost who inhabits Suze's new room. Where he died over 150 years ago. And he doesn't seem too keen on leaving. But Jesse isn't the least of Suze's problems. When she arrives at her new school, she meets Heather, a recently dead girl ghost. Heather is full of anger towards whom she feels caused her death, and she doesn't want to pass onto her next life. She's looking for some butt to kick--and the nearest target happens to be Suze. But Suze has been dealing with angry ghosts almost all her life. She can handle Heather--or can she? I liked this author's work a while before I discovered these books (she wrote The Princess Diaries under the name Meg Cabot) but the Mediators really made me become an all-out fan of her books. This series is like the Princess Diaries, but with a darker, sharper edge. It's very hard to believe that Ms. Cabot is not a sixteen-year-old herself, because she writes so realistically from our point of view that I find myself comparing her style to some of my best friend's conversations and notes. The dialogue is witty, fun, and believable, the characters real, and all the books are just the right blend of realistic fiction and sci-fi/fantasy, with some killer abs on Jesse thrown in. What more could a girl want?
Rating: Summary: One of the best books Review: This book is one of the best books out there today. Jenny Carroll is one of the best authors. Her use of Ghosts into real life and expressing the truth that they are around us is brilliant. I give this book 5 stars for it's quality in a readers intrest.
Rating: Summary: WOW! read it Review: This book was so cool! I liked the idea of being able to communicate with the dead. THe best thing about this book is that the girl is really cool and won't take any [bull] from anyone! Unlike a few other Meg Cabot novels (Jenny Carroll=Meg Cabot) she is willing to defend herself and is not as insecure as most of the other heroines. I loved Jesse and Doc and Adam and Cee Cee and everyone in this book. I've read it like 6 times and am scared everytime even though I know what is going to happen! READ IT!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This book was so great if you like books about ghosts then you'll love this book i did!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great start to a great series! Review: This is a great start to a great story. It has everything: action, supernatural, teen angst, and romance. This is a great book! I love the way Carroll makes Susannah's voice unique to her, you can almost imagine her next to you.
Rating: Summary: first - but not last Review: This is my first book by "Jenny Carroll." I've read all the Princess Diaries book, but I didn't know that Jenny Carroll was Meg Cabot until after I finished the book. IN "Shadowland" (the first of the Mediator books), Suze Simon moves to sunny, bubbly Californa with her mom. She's moving into an old, historic house that her stepdad and three stepbrothers (Doc, Dopey, and Sleepy) live in. When Suze finds out it's an *old* mansion, she freaks out. You see, Suze has powers. She can talk to ghosts, in fact, she has to help them go to the afterlife. Suze is right ~ there's a Spanish cowboy from the 1800's (named Jesse) living in her room. At first, shes kind of alarmed, but soon she becomes friends with Jesse ~ he watches out for her, and seems to have an attraction to her. At Suze's new school, there is also a ghost. Heather, the pretty, popular girl who committ suicide the week before Suze arrived. Heather is jealous and seeking revenge on her ex-boyfriend Bryce, and will stop at nothing to kill him. Suze keeps trying to prevent Heather's attempts to murder Bryce, but in the end - will she succeed? This was a great book, even better than the Princess Diaries. It's a book that you won't want to put down, and won't be upset at the end. Everything comes together. Overall grade: A+
