Rating: Summary: Great Beginning Review: I borrowed this book from a friend, and after reading it I ended up buying the whole series! Shadowland refers to the world of ghosts, and the main character Susannah Simon @ Suze have the gift to see ghosts and helped them to go to their afterlife. The story started with Suze moving to Carmel after her mom remarried with a guy who already has 3 sons, and Suze vowed to start over her life because she doesn't want to disappoint her mom anymore. But, since she IS the mediator, she can't really start over because there are ghosts still lingering even in California, including one really cute Spanish ghost haunting her bedroom! So she's all angry and stuff, but things changed when she met another mediator and also her school's principal, Father Dominic who tries to teach her the 'gentler' way of dealing with ghosts instead of just punching them on the face. Much to her surprise, Suze became popular at school, has great friends and was even nominated for Vice President! Of course, all is not well, when Suze encountered a bitter ghost of a girl who died in a suicide and who is trying to kill her still alive ex-boyfriend. Suze tries to persuade the ghost into moving on, but instead it backfired and things got very, very bad (and messy) after that. I thought this book was really entertaining, mostly because of Suze's thoughts and cynical sense of humour and the characters are interesting as well. The ending promises something interesting between Suze and her bedroom ghost, Jesse and I would recommend this book to all teen readers.
Rating: Summary: Fun read, great characters Review: I enjoyed SHADOWLAND so much that I immediately ordered the second book and WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES, a non-Mediator book by Jenny Carroll. Susannah doesn't just see dead people: she touches them, talks to them, and occasionally deals with them much more firmly. She's a mediator, someone who can set things right between the dead and those people still living the dead want to communicate with. For some reason this makes her life a little more difficult than most. People call the cops on her when she enters their yards to pass on messages, or when she damages property in her efforts to send a really troublesome spirit on its way (did I mention that being dead means you can learn to move, and throw, heavy objects?). Sh's just left her beloved New York and her best (and only) friend for California, a stepdad and three step brothers, and the very handsome ghost who haunts her bedroom. Susannah is definitely a grrl for the new century, trying to fit into a new family, a new school, and a new culture. She's believable in her struggles with dating, school, her old-fashioned roommate, and the death of her dad. And a number of the secondary characters are interesting, funny, and their own people: intellectual CeeCee, hormone boy Adam, Susannah's step-brothers, her mother and step-dad, Jesse the ghost. My favorite at the moment is Father Dominic, the head of Susannah's new high school, a priest who's kind, clever and idealistic without being syrupy. He's trying to teach Susannah that sometimes a gentler approach with people works far more efficiently than a right hook to the gut . . . He's got his work cut out for him! Great fun, a great read--now I just have to be patient and wait for the third Mediator book!
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: I found The Mediator stories to be one of my favourite books. Not being much into fiction, I carefully went through the pages, expecting to tuck into a corner sooner or later. Nothing to do! I just had to keep reading. The characters are brilliant, the plot is marvellous, and the style is perfect. One immediately falls in love with Jess, a ghost helping Suze, and can't put the book don't. 100% recommended.
Rating: Summary: LOVE IT ^__^ Review: I happened to be looking for another awesome series from Meg Cabot when I discovered Haunted, while surfing the web. Then I found out it was a series and bought the first four books. AND THEY ROCKED! This was the first book in the series (and my personal fave). It begins with Suze getting off the plane as she meets her 3 new stepbros Sleepy, Dopey, and Doc. From that point further your totally submerged in her world with her *gift* of seeing, speaking, and if needed kicking the ass of the dead. First ghost out of the gate is Jesse the hot spanish chico haunting her bedroom (why not mine ;). After getting to school she meets Heather another ghost who isn't too happy about being dead. The whole book from that point on basically is a majorly awesome page turner!! I've read the series 3 times. I love Meg Cabot and I say to everyone who loves a good book to read this it is better than any other series I've read.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I liked this book. It was kinda of different from what I usually read, but I liked it just the same. Susannah (Suze) just moved from NYC, to CA to live with her new step brothers. Before she even gets unpacked, she sees a ghost of a guy in her bedroom(Jesse). And at her new school Heather, an angry ghost, is out to get revenge on her ex(Byrce)-the guy she killed herself over. Heather is less than happy about Suze being there, because in her mind, Suze is taking over her old life, from her old locker, to her old best friend (who I couldnt stand), to her ex, which really begins to tick her off. Alot of wierd stuff starts to happen at Suzes school, and Heather is causing it, but only Suze, and her principal (Fr. Dom) know that. After Heather puts both Byrce and Fr. Dom in the hopital, Suze takes things into her own hands.
Rating: Summary: Great way to start a great teen series Review: I love it when young adult books are written in such a way that older readers can appreciate them too. SHADOWLAND, for me, is definitely one of those books. Protagonist Sussanah Simon is young, at sixteen, but smart and tough so it's fun seeing things from her point of view.Especially since her experiences are different from those of a regular, average teen. The ghosts and paranormal events are a cool touch for readers who are either going through the same things in their own lives or just looking for a fun read. I recommend this book to the fun-loving, young (and young at heart) folks who enjoy reading about psychic phenomena and things usually considered out of this world.
Rating: Summary: Not all ghosts are gross! Review: I loved this book. But than again I'm not very choosey. I enjoy this author a great deal. Wheather its under the name Jenny Carroll or Meg Cabot. I think she's funny and romantic, plus a little new age, but only a little. I read this in a single night. I hope this reveiw is helpful if not intresting. Any way I hope you like the book as much as I did. Thanks for your time. Oh and don't forget the other three. The fourth is coming out soon.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly funny, spooky book Review: I picked up this book because I love horror and ghost stories, and I'm a big fan of Cabot's (one of the author's pseudynoms) Princess Diaries series. This book did NOT dissapoint. The dialouge is funny and realistic, and all the main characters are very likable. All interaction with the ghosts is written realistically, as with teenagers at the school. I especially like the relationship the main character had with the priest. If you want a well written book with laughs and chills, try this series!
Rating: Summary: Delicious!! Review: I read Haunted... then I was at the beach, saw Shadowland, and had to have it. I literally NEEDED it. I knew that was the book I wanted. And I was NOT disappointed. It was very good, beginning with Suze's move to California ending to... well, I can't give it away. Suze is a mediator... she can talk to ghosts, hear ghosts, and even give them pain. She tries to help them move on to wherevere the ghost is supposed to go. When she arrives at her new house, there is a very attractive (okay, hot)guy in her bedroom. Of course, she wants him out immediately because, after all, he is a guy. In a girl's room. Then, when she's at school, she meets another mediator. It's her principal, Father Dominic. She meets him through seeing the angry ghost of Heather, the girl who committed suicide because her boyfriend broke up with her. She is totally mad, and will do anything to kill Bryce (the ex) and anyone Suze likes... and then she plans to get rid of Suze.
Rating: Summary: Excellent. An engrossing start to a creepy, yet cool series. Review: I took a chance with this book. I had seen the second book at my bookstore for a while, but it's not smart to start a series without reading the first book first! (well, duh) But anyways, I saw this book at a different bookstore one day and I decided to buy it. I read the first page and liked it. I can usually tell if I'm going to like a book by reading the first couple of pages. Anyways, 'The Mediator' is like a cross between the Fearless series and the movie Ghost (weird anology, I know, but that's my opinion). Susannah is a medium for the dead. Ghosts who are wandering around in our world with a little unfinished business. What I liked about the lead character, Susannah Simon, is that though she's edgy and can "kick ghost butt", but she's not totally unrelatable. She's not your typical teenage girl, but Jenny Carroll *ahem*, Meggin Cabot) writes realistically and smoothly. Her herione seems real. I believe Meg is very talented. A good book. I give it ***** stars.
