Rating: Summary: YUM YUM YUM! Review: This book is like good chocolate cake: once you start, you want to devour it, and when you are done you wish you had more. I mean, a *really* good cake--the kind with chocolate chips and excellent frosting and ice cream on the side. Everything about the _Princess Diaries_ is charming, from the deftly drawn characters to the clever and compelling plot. I gobbled it up in one sitting, and now cannot wait for seconds. Buy and enjoy this book today!
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: I really loved this book! Mia is funny and cool, and her friends and family are great. I especially liked that Lilly had her own talk show and Michael was really sweet! I would recommend this novel to any teen and I can't wait to see the movie with Julie Andrews and Mandy Moore. This author really gets what it's like to be a teen. Very Realistic (well, except for the whole princess part!) I've also read the first booik in Meg Cabot's other series (under the name Jenny Carroll) "THE MEDIATOR: Shadowlands" and that was incredible too! It's very "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"-esque. Anyone who likes that show will love the book!
Rating: Summary: Quirky fun Review: Teens will enjoy this story about high school freshman Mia Thermopolos, who learns that her father is the prince of the small country of Genovia, and that she is the only heir to the throne. Her horror at learning this is magnified when she discovers that her dowager grandmother will be giving her lessons in how to behave royally. While the teen slangy-ness and light tone may be off-putting to some adults and mature teens, the plot moves along quickly, and the diary format will keep readers hooked. Subplots are minimal and the boy-girl situations are easy to predict, but Mia's sense of humor and quirky determination to keep her royal status hidden will endear her to most young adult readers.
Rating: Summary: A must read for teens and parents Review: As the mother of two girls, 13 and 10 years of age, I am thrilled by the prospect of both of them reading this book and passing it on to their children. It is rare that a book is written that is entertaining, sensitive, funny and appropriate for both teens and parents.Cabot's book has reminded me of the trials and tribulations that teens go through and will provide my daughters with a rare insight into their days to come. I laughed out loud and will laugh again as my daughters do the same.
Rating: Summary: I'll read anything written by Meg Cabot! Review: I don't like to read much, but my friend told me I would really like this book. And she was right. Mia's thoughts, friends and things that she does really hit home for me and what it's like to be a high school freshman (even though I am not a princess). This book made me laugh out loud and feel better about some of the things that make me feel like a geek. My friends and I like it so much that we sometimes read our favorite parts at the lunch table. Thanks Meg Cabot! I may not like to read, but I'll read anything you write for sure.
Rating: Summary: Funny, educational, totally entertaining Review: I predict that this book will be the big surprise bestseller of the year 2000. I have been privileged enough to read advance copies, and I was absolutely entranced. The characters are vivid (just wait till you meet Grandmere), the situation is intriguing, and the denouement is completely satisfying. This is the definitive young teen book of the new century. Its appeal -- while absolutely modern -- crosses generations. Without a word of a lie, I gave my advance copy to my mother -- 89 years young -- and she could not put it down. She was laughing, she was crying, and she thought it was the best book she had read in years. She -- like the rest of my family -- cannot wait for the movie!
Rating: Summary: What happens when a teen discovers she's a princess? Review: The Princess Diaries is a great new young adult novel that isentertaining, and not at all contrived. ... In the Princess Diaries, Mia discovers that her father, whom she sees rarely, is the prince of a small country, which means Mia is a princess! Her father's mother decides that Mia needs to be groomed for the position of princess, which entails lessons on manners, foreign relations, current events, and other issues that Mia could care less about. This story is a hilarious look at how Mia deals with her newly-discovered royal status, and how everyone around her treats her because of it. Entertaining, well-written, and fun!
Rating: Summary: The Princess has a sense of humor! Review: I finished reading the Princess Diaries several days ago, and I'm still laughing about some of Mia's funny lines and humorous situations. The premise of this story is a bit unlikely, but in my opinion--it works! There aren't enough humorous novels for young adults these days. 14-year-old Mia Thermopolis is a breath of fresh air. She suffers from the usual teen angst, but she copes with her home and school life with unusual aplomb. She is reflective and comes up with positive responses to very negative situations. Coping with parents AND school life is difficult enough, without having your mom date your algebra teacher! If you're looking for a fun, quick read, this book's for you!
Rating: Summary: Once I started, I could not put it down. Review: What a great read. Once I started, I could not put the Princess Diaries down. The book is written in the format of a diary and brought back memories of when I used to keep my own diary. The lead character goes through so many awkward experiences that we all had as an adolescent - it bring back lots of memories. I even found myself laughing out loud a few times. Both adults and kids will enjoy reading the Diaries.
