Rating: Summary: A wonderful end to the Kel series! Review: I've been a huge fan of Tamora Pierce and the Tortall books for many years. Even though I'm a senior in high school, I still love them!In my opinion, the Kel series is the best. She is real, and becomes a great knight and person through her own determination and skill. My favorite part of the book was discovering how Kel commanded and managed Haven. Even though she longed to search for the "Nothing Man," she buckled down and went to work building the refuge and training the refugees. Kel even had to deal with rambunctious commoners and convicts. The book is replete with humor and battle. Although there isn't much romance in this final book, it is definately worth the read. I sat down and read it in one day! I recommend all of Tamora Pierce, and especially the Protector of the Small series. But, I do advise you start with the Alanna and Daine books, first.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: A lot of the reviews I've read of this book seem to dislike it. I really enjoyed it! Kel is a wonderful character. I love the vivid way Tamora Pierce describes everything. I think I will remember the configuration of Haven for the rest of my life, kind of like Middle-Earth. I really don't think it matters that there wasn't much romance in this book. I think it is great that Tamora Pierce wrote a book where the main character doesn't need to be romantically involved (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE George). It's nice with so many old characters returning. I was very happy that Numair was in this book more. We talked to Daine in the other Protector of the small books but Numair was always a distant figure. Alanna wasn't in this book as much as I would have liked, but we do have to move on, I suppose. Neal was in this book, which made me really happy because Neal was always one of my favorite characters. I hope Tamora Pierce writes another quartet about anybody in Tortall as long as they talk to Kel so I can find out how Kel and Dom are doing as well as everyone else. I was also glad Dom was in this book. He was another one of my favorite characters. One of my favorite parts of this book has to be when everyone, separately without speaking to each other follow Kel as she disobeys orders and follows the people of her fort. I thought this book was an amazing conclusion to the Protector of the Small quartet.
Rating: Summary: HEART-TOUCHING BOOK Review: THE BEST BOOK IVE EVER READ!! READ THE ONES THAT COME B4 IT BUT THIS IS THE BEST ONE! IT WILL LEAVE YOU *dying* for more!!
Rating: Summary: Not the best, but far from worst Review: Yet another fantastic book from Tamora Pierce, the last book in the quartet, Tortall is at war with Scanra and we seesthe heroine Kel as commander in charge of Haven, a refugee centre, but what can she do about the visions that the Chamber of Ordeal gives her? Aiding her along the way are some old friends and acquaintances who all bring their particular personalities to the story. Much of the book focuses on fighting and the likes instead of characterisation, this isn¡¯t a major drawback as the new characters introduced are all supporting. The plot itself is nothing to rave about, it¡¯s obvious what¡¯s the ending, there¡¯s really no surprises anywhere and at times it does feel a bit bland and like nothing important is happening. The ending felt a bit simple and too easy which gave me an impression that something surprising is going to happen, but didn¡¯t, which I half expected but still a letdown. The writing is clear and to the point with humour dotted here and there. If you liked her previous works you¡¯ll like this one too. This book might not be the best, but it¡¯s definitely not the worst, far from it.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing? Never! Review: Having bought this book at far more than its going price, I was determined not to find it a disappointment, as some of my friends seemed to have done. And you know what? I didn't. I LOVED it. This wonderful final installment is a must-read for all Tammy fans. Lady Knight proves that Kel is in her element as a commander as she takes charge at a refugee camp. She does well, but is restless, knowing that she needs to carry out the task that the Chamber of the Ordeal has set her. But when something goes terribly wrong, she knows that she has to take things into her own hands. The book rarely focuses on Kel's personal life, which I missed a little, but she's a knight, her country's at war, and she has other things on her mind, so I can't blame her. If you're looking for romance, this isn't the book you'll find it. The book doesn't answer all your questions- especially about Kel's relationship with a certain King's Own sergeant (hint hint!)- but if it did, it wouldn't be half as much fun. The return of Neal, Owen, and other characters that were missed in Squire is a definite plus. Read it!
Rating: Summary: Lady Knight Review: LADY KNIGHT is the best book I've read in a long time; I was never bored while reading it. Pierce has the ability to create what many authors have forgotten how to do: real characters. Kel works diligently for her title as "Lady Knight" as she experiences both losses and triumphs. (She even gets a cold!) It was a wonderful experience to read a book that shows the passion of the human spirit and the courage that lies within each of us. I would definitley recommend this book to anyone who loves action, adventure, (even a little bit of magic) and stories about finding your place in the world. I have not yet read the other three books in the PROTECTOR OF THE SMALL series, but I am very anxious to do so!
Rating: Summary: Lady Knight Review: Although still good, this book has to be my least favourite of the Kel series. All the battles at the beginning dragged a bit, and I wanted to see more stuff with the characters (not just romance, though that would have been good, but Kel just having time with her friends like she did in the first two books) This book picked up a lot by the second half, though, once it got past all that strategy stuff which I found a bit boring, and it had one very good point: Neal was in it. He's been my favourite character from the very beginning and I was disappointed when he was hardly in Squire. Even though he was betrothed to Yukimi and all that, I was still hoping he would go out with Kel some time. Oh well... I have suspicions that at some future book set in Tortall, Kel and Dom will make an appearance as a couple, which would be fun. :) It may be a slight let-down after the other three, but Lady Knight is still a good book and this quartet is definitely my favourite out of all that Tamora Pierce is written. I agree with the other reviewers - you can't really imagine being Alanna or Daine (or any of the people in Circle of Magic who have magic and that) but Kel is an ordinary girl you can identify with.
Rating: Summary: Totally awesome book! Another one of pierce's excellents! Review: I thoroughly loved this book! It showed Kel's unequaled perserverence at a new level. I've been a fan of this series because Kel is without magic, making her an actual person that you can relate to (in most cases). But this book showed her excelling in something that she didn't want to do. As you can see I REALLY enjoyed this book and encourage everyone to read it.
Rating: Summary: the worst book tamora pierce has ever written Review: i have loved the song of the lioness quartet since i was nine. i thought she was a great writer, then i read the protector of the small quartet. Protector of the small is about the first known girl trying to earn her shield. it sounds great, but the character Kel was even weaker than Sandry from the circle of magic books. kel is way to idealistic, and the experiences she had before she became a page were just too perfect for her. i think that kel's personality is way too weak, although the middle of this book was well written, the plot just didn't fit, it just happened that lord wyldon gave kel command of a refugee camp. i also thought the end was insufficiant. Normally at the end of a tamora pierce book everything is summed up at the end, but this nothing was summed up. she didn't even find a guy to be with, although i was routing for her and dom since squire. this book would have been good if the character kel wasn't so idealistic and so perfect. i think one of the things that made the song of the lioness quartet so good was that alanna was a believable and likable character who acted accordingly to the situations she was thrust into.and this is really not the point but ALANNA SHOULD HAVE MARRIED JONATHAN
Rating: Summary: Lady Knight Review: The Protector of the Small quartet has come to an end. After Kel was knighted, she received a quest from the Chamber of the Ordeal. She had to find Blayce, the man who was creating these killing devices, and kill him and his bodyguard, Stenmun. However, it seems that Lord Wyldon has another plan for her. Instead of participating in the war against Tortall and Scanra or going after Blayce, the Nothing Man, she will be the leader of a refugee camp. Though the ending isn't that surprising, it's quite a good story and I have come to like Kel more and more. She is less of a hero and relies more on her friends to help her out. She is simple and, unlike Alanna or Daine, does not have powers or too much of a strong character. She is also a very independant woman, and I think she is more realistic than Tamora's previous heroines. All in all, a very good book and the fans won't be disappointed about the way this quartet finishes.
