Rating: Summary: My Review Of "Lirael : Daughter of the Clayr" Review: I thought this was a great book, although it wasn't nearly as good as "Sabriel" was. It was a great book for information and to sort of bring you back into that 'world'. I am glad that Nix is comin out with "Abhorson" becase that was a pretty ... way to end "Lirael." All in all, i give this book a four and 1/2 star rating.
Rating: Summary: Another engaging novel by Nix Review: I truely enjoyed reading this book. I bought it because I enjoyed his novel, Sabriel, so much. I was not disappointed. I found the main character, Lirael, to be believable and felt her fears, frustrations, and joys. However, I rated this book only 4 stars because I personally don't like it when the story is clearly left hanging and incomplete. I'll be surprised if there isn't another novel soon.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER! Review: I tell you youngsters that this books kicks Harry potter into the dirt. Garth Nix writes a great series about Sabriel and later about Lirael. I love it!! I assure you that if you buy this book, you'll get a better plot and story than the stupid Harry Potter series!
Rating: Summary: Everything and more Review: Lireal was a wonderful sequel to Sabriel. I think that the story plot was wonderful and very unpredictable. I like the way he made the family fit in such Lireal and Sabriel beings sisters (in a way) and how it all fits together perfectly. I was a little disappointed to find out that Abhorsen the third book of the trilogy might not come out till April or September of 2002 but in waiting for it my school-year will be filled with anticipation of the upcoming book. The plot in some ways tends to get a little bit confusing. If you have read the Golden Compass trilogy by Philip Pullman you would understand how the main characters stories seem to go back and forth until they meet. I have emailed the author to find that he is an even more wonderful person than he is an author since he emailed a nobody like me. He has taught me things about the books that I would have stay confused with otherwise. I think my biggest joy in the book is the diffrences that Lireal and Prince Sameth have to put up with all the way to Lireal's talking pet is a Charter-made dog and Prince Sameth's Mogget is a Free-Magic cat.The conflicts are many and I think that is what keeps the story going. All in all it is a great book to by but i would suggest that you read Sabriel first.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever: Lirael Review: If you thought that Sabriel was good, then you must read Lirael, the 2nd book in the trilogy. Lirael is the daughter of the Clayr, and doesn't seem to fit in with there life style. She meets up with Prince Sameth, Sabriel and Touchtone's son, and they continue to fight dead hands, and many of the greater dead. Even more wonderful then Sabriel, it is the most amazing book I have ever read. It was wonderfully written, and I don't know what else to write. It was wonderful, and all my freinds keep wanting to borrow it. A Must Read for anyone who remotly liked Sabriel or any other fantasy.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: This book was amazingly great. It was like a much more complecated Harry Potter. You really feel the emotion of all the charecteds. The only thing I hate is waiting for Abhorson!
Rating: Summary: Review of Lirael Review: I loved Sabriel, and I thought this was even better. It had even more magic, and I loved the two main characters. I was able to figure out just enough about the story but not too much. If you have not read the summery, basically, its about a girl who lives in a community in which all girl recieve the "SIGHT". The sight alllows them to see into the furture and recieving it is, while an honor, not unusual. However, Lirael, is 14 and still has not recieved it- unheard of where she lives in the Clayr's Glacier. It follows her eand her progression until she finds out her parentage. This book was AMAZING. However if you have not read Sabriel, read that first.
Rating: Summary: REVIEW FOR LIRAEL Review: This series must be read in order to understand all of the information. The main character's name is Lirael, and she is a daughter of the Clayr, the people who can see into the future. The dark complexion and light hair and eyes of the Clayr make Lirael an outsider, along with her lack of the "Sight". Her adventures inside the Clayr's Glacier is many and dangerous, including the battle against the Stilken, a creature resembling a human female with silver eyes and hooks on forearms as long as it's legs. With the help of her friend and only "family" the Disruputable Dog, she succedes in these and many of her other adventures.
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids. Review: I was astonished to find that this series was young adult. It's awesome how intricate the details are. The characters are well developed in this book... they're insecure, but they've got cause. 1)they're teenagers, and 2)they have pretty big shoes to fill. I wonder what happens to Nick and Lirael. Ya never know! Anxiously waiting for Abhorsen!
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the sequel - Abhorsen Review: I've read many of Garth Nix's books including Sabriel and Lirael...Shade's Children, The Seventh Tower series (now waiting for book 5, due out in June 2001). The wonderful thing about all of them is his ability to take you to different worlds and make you believe that they truly exist. In Lirael, the fantasy world of the Old Kigdom continues. Lirael, a daughter of the Clayr, struggles while growing up with a strong sense of not belonging to her world; not fitting in. We enjoy watching her come of age. Mr. Nix includes many wonderful plot twists and new characters including Sameth, the son of Sabriel and Touchstone, who is the apparent Abhorsen in waiting. While Sabriel, the first book in this series, stands alone with no need for a sequel other than the desire of the reader to continue experiencing this wonderful world; Lirael definitely leaves you waiting to see what will happen next. It is truly only part of the story. In all honesty, I would have prefered a larger book with the full story, but understand the necessity to make two normal length books instead. Patience is a virtue, afterall. The sequel should be out as early as spring 2002. One last thing...As others have mentioned in earlier reviews, this book as well as the others mentioned are good reading for adults as well as young adults. As with the Harry Potter books, it's an opportunity to get people young and old to read books with joy and anticipation. If you enjoyed Sabriel, you will be thankful that Lirael is here and the Abhorsen soon to follow.
