Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: Wow. That pretty much sums up this book and its prequel, Sabriel. I must have read Sabriel at least a few hundred times from the first time I read it, almost FIVE YEARS AGO!!! I had no idea then that there was to be a sequel and no one could have understood how surprised and delighted I was when Amazon "advised" me to read it, almost a month after it was released. Normally, if I had known I would have pre-ordered it years ago. Anyway, this book (and its prequel) are for anyone who enjoys fantasy, adventure, or just a good story. Both books have incredible characters, settings, and wonderful writing. But it is definately the plot and creativity that sets these storys above other fantasys, you will be amazed at how quickly you become entranced by these novels and how much, once you have read them, you will anticipate the final conclusion to a story began a long time ago. Worth the full five stars, and a million more!
Rating: Summary: Really good but a it dissapointing! Review: Ok! Lireal is a fatastic book. I love the dog and it is really cool how Lireal figures out how to make the best of things. Although, I personally didn't like what happend to Sabriel and Touchstone. They seemed to loose their flare. This book, like Sabriel didn't end very well I know there is going to be another book but Nix could of put a better ending on it (I had to reade Shade's Children to make sure Nix new how to end a book). Anyway this is a a great book read it, BUT READ SABRIEL 1st or eles you will be lost! Mogget Rules hehe!
Rating: Summary: Best Book!!!!!! Review: Lirael is SUCH A GOOD BOOK. After I read Sabriel I COULDN'T WAIT to get Lireal. I have read it more than once, and I LOVE IT every time I read it. It is really good, but the ending is disapointing. I can't wait for the next book, Abhorson. Everyone should read this book, but read Sabreal first.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Review: This book is amazing!! I don't know how Garth Nix does it! Lirael will keep you reading till 1:00 in the morning. If you haven't read Sabriel, then I suggest you get going because you're losing a big part of the mystery and beauty of the book if you don't. Garth Nix has written this story so well that I feel that if someone just told me how to get to the Old Kingdom, I'd become a Charter Mage myself!! Lirael is a young lady Clayr, yet does not have the "Sight." She is sorely detirmed to get it even when all chances are lost AND replaced by a new hope. Prince Samuel is also brought into the tale. (if you've read Sabriel than this might feel very weird!) Sam is Sabriel and Touchstone's son. He is also expected to be Abhorsen in waiting - a destiny he has been putting off for a very long time. The two characters come together to defeat the undead and free magic that is threatening the downfall of the old kingdom. I AM DYING FOR THE NEXT BOOK, "ABHORSEN!" I hope you enjoy Lirael as much as I did!

Rating: Summary: The best sequel I've ever read Review: Lirael is of course the sequel to my all-time favorite fantasy novel, Sabriel. I was shocked to receive Lirael as a birthday gift, since I had no idea that Nix had written a sequel. I somehow never got around to reading it until about 3 months later, and I just finished it about 10 minutes ago. First of all, Lirael definitely lives up to the high standards set by Sabriel. It is a fantasy that sucks you in, and lets you believe that you are really there, being stalked by Dead Hands and watched by Gore Crows. Nix tends to write dark books, but they are so vivid and horribly creepy that you can't wait to read more. It's most entertaining to read Lirael at night when you can let your imagination run free in the darkness. Some of the past reviewers said that they disliked the ending because of its abruptness, and failure to tie up all the loose ends. I admit that it frustrates me, and I will sit impatiently waiting for Abhorsen to be published, but what fun would life be if we never had anything to look forward to? I congratulate Garth Nix on his success with ruffling his fans' feathers. If you have read Sabriel, you will know how well Nix develops his characters. I especially liked Sameth and his very human-like personality. So many fantasy novels have fearless heroes and assertive heroines. But very few have a young man who is simply trying to please his parents, rescue his best friend, and keep himself alive while resenting the future that has been put before him. Lirael also struggles with what is expected of her. She is a Daughter of the Clayr without the sight, and it hurts her because all she has ever wanted was to fit in. However, she learns that she fits somewhere, just not where she had initially intended. I enjoyed this book because of the superb character development and Sameth's and Lirael's feelings that I could identify with. I was glad that Mogget had returned--with an unfortunately meaner personality--and I loved the Disreputable Dog. The Dead things were described so vividly, and the action moved along at a great pace. I never got bored during Lirael, and I will be waiting anxiously for Abhorsen.
Rating: Summary: One of the best fantasy books Review: This is one of the best fantasy books that I have read. It is gripping and you feel as if you are actually there experiencing whats happenning. I would definitedly recommend this book for young adults and for those who truly appreciate a fantasy novel which you just can't put down!!
Rating: Summary: Good Review: Though I finished the book in 2 days, it wasn't great. For starters, it gets about halfway through the story and leaves you hanging. We have to wait for "Abhorsen" to read the ending. Mogget, though always dangerous, has changed a bit in personality, for the worst. I liked him better in Sabriel. Other parts were predictable, ESPECIALLY if you've read "Sabriel" (Lirael's other Blood-type, Sameth's destiny--the biggest clue to this comes through Touchstone's own blood...). So, the best thing to do would be waiting until "Abhorsen" is out, so that you can read them both, one right after the other. It is a good story, though, don't get me wrong (with very loveable characters, such as the Disreputable Dog). I'd just rather have been allowed to see the outcome, instead of being "suspended" in time.
Rating: Summary: an awsome story to fallow up the first Review: this was a fasinating sequil to the first story in this trilogy, sabriel. This is a story about an evil, free magic necromancer, hedge, a daughter of the clayr that goes on many adventures, lirael, and a prince/abhorsen in waiting, samenth. Sams friend has a little change of plans and samenth goes out to save the day while mean while lirael has many interesting encounters in the vast library of the clayr's glacer. this was a very intereasting book that created a fictional world that seemed real and left me wanting to know what was next. the ending is a suprising stop that made me want to start the next book as soon a s posable. i recomend this book to every one
Rating: Summary: A worthwhile sequel! Review: At first I was hesitant to read Sabriel's sequel, afraid that, like so many sequels, it wouldn't live up to its extrodinary predecessor. However, I was very much mistaken indeed. This book was, although certainly filled to the brim with excitment, more about about characters than action. And they are delightfully well-constructed, well-developed characters indeed. My one complaint is the sudden ending. As I turned the last page and read the heading "Epilogue" on the top of the next, I literally dropped the book in surprise. Nothing major had happened yet! This book is clearly a delightful preperatation for what bodes to be an incredable conclusion. I might recommend waiting until Abhorsen is published before reading Lirael, because the suspense is intolerable!
