Rating: Summary: coming from me... Review: This book is by far the best teen novel I have ever read. The plot might make it sound uninteresting or unsophisticated but I guarantee that once you pick it up you'll be hooked! There's just something about the way it's written and the characters. Dexter is so wonderfully lovable while Remy is so the opposite! There are no boring parts. Read this book. Period.
Rating: Summary: Favorite Novel & Writer Review: This book is now my favorite book of all time. I was recomended to Sarah Dessen from a friend and never got around to actually buying one of her books. I found 'This Lullaby' in our school library and I read it in 3 days. I actually cried when it ended because I didn't want it to! Sarah Dessen has a major talent and I can't wait to read more of her novels! Within a week I have finished: This Lullaby, That Summer, & Dreamland and they were all excellent! I recommend any of her novels to anyone who likes a good read!

This novel is about Remy, a tough, independant girl who doesn't believe in true love and romance. Her mother has had a million break-ups and a job as a romance writer to boot. One day, she meets Dexter, a guy who is so totally her opposite and not exactly her type, yet....somehow, she like's his funny, artistic, smart (i don't kno) personality. What will happen in this story?

Rating: Summary: An unexpected page-turner! Review: This is one of those books I find by accident and unexpectedly enjoy. The plot is very reminiscent of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew' with the gutsy boy meets jaded girl situation. Though somewhat lacking in originality, the character development of the antagonist, Remy, was poignantly interesting. Dessen has a knack for tapping into a teenager's ever-changing emotions. From the beginning of Remy's narration, the reader can easily empathize with what's going through her mind: her pain for her absentee father, frustration with her mother, and her constant struggle with her feelings for Dexter. Dessen writes with a unique witty humor and sentimental touch that will keep teen girls reading.
Rating: Summary: 'Lullaby' sings out loud and clear Review: This Lullaby is a truly remarkable book. This is partially due to Remy, its hard-edged, (seemingly) cold protagonist (unusual for Sarah Dessen!); partially due to the utterly loveable character of Dexter; and partially due to many, many other factors. Most of all it's just due to the fact that it's a damn good book.
Every single one of This Lullaby's characters is interesting and multi-dimensional, even the most peripheral of players. Although the story is a decidedly dramatic one, humor runs more rampant here than in any other Dessen novel, particularly in the subplots involving Remy's endearing ex-stoner brother, Chris, and his "self-improvement guru" girlfriend, Jennifer Anne.
This Lullaby is notable for me personally for being the only book I have ever bought without reading it first. I had no idea what it was I was purchasing (well, okay, I'd read a couple of the author's other books and liked them, but you just never know). Fortunately, it's turned out to be one of my two favorite books of all time (alongside The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy; go figure).
All of Ms. Dessen's books are fun to read (particularly her first book, That Summer), but This Lullaby stands unique.
Rating: Summary: Dessen shines! Review: This Lullaby is about Remy, daughter of an eccentric, romance writer mother who has been married five times and a dead, musician father whose only legacy is a song called "This Lullaby." Remy, having seen her mother go through husbands like kleenex, is jaded about love and relationships; every time she gets close to a guy, she dumps him. Then along comes Dexter, who not only breaks her "no musicians" rule (he's in a band that sings - among other things - "The Potato Song"), he's also everything that drives her crazy. Sarah Dessen's talent for character development shines through in this tale of first love. Her characters are flawed, dysfunctional, and so realistic that reading this book is like visiting with old friends. The topics tackled in This Lullaby are written both believably and in an utterly unique way, so that an old problem - "What do you do when someone doesn't like you back?" - becomes a fresh, new story with an ending that will satisfy both romantics and cynics alike.
