Summary: What a motivator!
Review: As a teacher of high school students with reading difficulties, it is very important that I find novels that motivate my students to read. Scorpions has truly gotten my students to enjoy reading! I teach in a large school in the Poconos and many of my students are new arrivals from Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Harlem...Scorpions presents the students with a bit of the world they are familiar with. Unfortunately, many of my students are all too familiar with gangs, guns, and drugs. The dialogue in the novel is exactly the dialogue many of my students use when they speak and that, I think, makes Jamal, Tito, and the rest of the characters come alive. This book was actually recommended to me by a student, and now I have many more students interested in the life of young Jamal Hicks. Bravo, and thank you, Walter Dean Myers!

Summary: Is an exciting up to date book.
Review: The book Scorpions is an exciting book that deals with things that happen in real life. I like this book because it is an interesting book. It deals with gangs, school, and things that happen everywhere around the world. The main character is Jamal. Jamal is a twelve-year-old boy who is asked to take over the gang that his brother led, before he went to jail. Jamal is not sure about becoming the leader because he is only twelve. He also is not fond of being the leader because there are kids who are much older than he is so he fears that they would not listen to him. I like this book because there is never a time in the book that makes you want to put it down and stop reading. It also is like a mystery book. It is like a mystery book because when Jamal was a given a gun the author didn't say what happens to him with the gun. But the author does make you want to read more to find out what happens to Jamal and the gun. Overall this book is a good book.

Summary: Scorpions
Review: Whether to become a gang leader isn't the only choice that Jamal Hicks has to make in Scorpions. For one thing Jamal has to choose between good and bad. Which one will he pick? Life is not simple for Jamal Hicks. Peer pressure and family issues are on his mind. Jamal's principal is on his back every second and his brother Randy is always in trouble. Finally Randy goes to jail and Jamal's family is being torn apart. How will Jamal survive all this? Incorporating very realistic street language and providing vivid sensory images, Scorpions is an exciting novel. Set on city streets, problems facing the youth of today are explored. Walter Dean Myers has written an appealing story for middle school students.

Summary: Da Review by Da Sith Hutt
Review: This book was terrible! 1 star. It was one of the most boring books I have ever read. The beginning was extremely boring, and it got little better. It was very difficult to read because the characters had a weird dialogue. Also, it didn't seem to have a point. People did things for no reason, and many things had no point to being done. This book also ends too early. You never find out a lot of the important parts of the story. I really did not like the book. Also, this book seems a little unrealistic. A lot of stuff I doubt would actually happen, like having a fourteen-year-old lead a gang or that the bail for holding up a store with a gun would only be 500 dollars. Also, the school seemed rather unrealistic. The author did not do a very good job of painting a picture in the mind. I did not really kmow what anything really looked like. There werent't very many descriptive words so I couldn't tell what the author wanted things to look like. It seemed really drawn out and long. There were many things in the story that had nothing to do with anything else. They were just there. This book had many bad qualities.

Summary: Scorpions - The stinging reality
Review: Scorpions, a book about a gang. Very true to life. It really makes you think about the society today. Drive-by shootings, drugs, sexual harrassment, mostly by gangs. In this book, it really makes you think about these gangs and the dangers of being involved with them. That's what happened to Jamal, isn't it? This is a very sad story about a poor family who is just kind of having to eke out on the edge. Jamal's brother is in jail, and he wants Jamal to take over his gang. The problem is, the whole gang's whacko. This story is very well-written, and you can actually feel Jamal's fear and his sadness. This book is excellent, and I reccomend it to anyone who likes read.

Summary: You liker trouble than get Scorpions the best book around.
Review: I read the book Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers. This book shows how the author grew up in the city and the experiences that happened from living in the city. It is a really good book because it makes you feel like you are going through these experiences together.

There are only a couple of characters, but they are all well developed. It tells the story of a young boy named Jamal and his family going through the trouble of not having a father around and having an older brother in jail. It explains his experiences trying to be the man of the house and trying to protect his family through rough times, of having to get a job to support his family. It discusses how a gang that his brother was in helps out the family and how they take Jamal and try to help him. This does not work out when they give him a gun and he hurts the people who he loved the most, like his friend Tito. So if you want to find out what happens to Tito, Jamal, Randy and his family read Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers.

Summary: Realistic-fiction comes to life
Review: This book is about Jamal and Tito getting in trouble after getting a gun from a gang leader of the scorpions, Mack. When he does trouble starts. This book makes me feel sort of sad for him because he's lives in a bad neighborhood and is surrounded by violence. The book gives the reader(me) a sense of action and sadness especially the things that happen to Jamal and Tito. A great part about this book is no happy ending after the hundreds of books i read. This book is that best because Jamal has to keep hoping for good things to happen and has to keep fighting.
