Summary: Best Fantasy novel EVER!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I had no idea what it was when I first picked it up, but it did not take me long to appreciate the creative genius of Brooks. I have never been able to get into Tolkien's stuff, but I am told there are similarities. So what?! Even Brooks himself gives credit to Tolkien for inspiration. Both are great. I definitely prefer Brooks' style, though. This book is definitely a "must read"!

Summary: A classic, downside.......a copy of ideas....
Review: the letter from allanon was just a tad like the letter from gandalf, and alanon showing up and just telling shea to leave his life in shady V. I truly do think it is one of the best books i ever have read,, but it could have had a little more originalty.. the prelude THE FIRST KING OF SHANNARA is a must read. it wass original. and i think that the HERItage OF SHANNARA was a hit too. i f i were you i would read it. ~a j

Summary: The real story of Brooks's first writing
Review: Having read the Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's writings previously, I must say that I am a fan of the fantasy genre. After reading the controversy on Amazon's reviews about Sword of Shannara, I decided that Brooks must be worth it because otherwise everyone wouldn't complain about it. I must say, I almost began to believe that it was a direct copy of LoTC in the first few chapters, but the book has a life of its own and is very different towards the end. It also comtains something not found in LoTC: humor. Not a lot of it, but it contains enough to that you may laugh at the predicament the charatcers impose on themselves. The Sword of Shannara is Brooks's first writing and it bears resemblance to LoTC probably because this was his first try. Recommended read ALL the way through, not just the first few chapters, guys. Give Brooks a chance.

Summary: I'm hooked
Review: I read this in second grade, and I've been hooked on Terry Brooks ever since. The legends of Shannara are pretty much unmatched in all of fantasy fiction.

Summary: The Brook Influence
Review: If I have something to say, I think all fanticy have a lot in commen with each other. That is one of the reasons I injoy him. Brooks can use parts of the triditional fanticy in his writings while adding his own influence to it. For example the ending of the story was coppied by no one. Yet it is enjoyable, the same with the charictors in the story. I only wish there are more people that have a such rounded mind as Terry Brooks.

Summary: Cut Terry A Break!!!!!
Review: I read this book 4 or 5 years ago, and I loved it! I had also read The Lord Of The Rings 1 year previous to that. I must say I loved this book, I could not put it down I would come home from school each day and read until bedtime. Granted it was VERY SIMILAIR to TLoTR Trilogy, but either I didn't notice or didn't care. Now I am older and realise this alot more but this book is still a Thrill Ride nonetheless, and it was not intended to be as grandeur as TLoTR trilogy or he would have written three 500pg+ books in what may have been called "The Sword Of Shannara Trilogy" to tell the story. This is a story I will never forget. And is a great intro into the originality of his stories to come.

Summary: Clearly one of the centuries greatest novels.
Review: This book, to say the least, is fantastic. The characters are elaboritly described, and the setting is stupendous. The idea of a world that resulted from a nuclear holocaust is very appealing to a lot of people. The races are cool. This book is magnificent and should win thousands of awards.

Summary: A boring copy of the "Lord of the Rings"
Review: When i was reading this book, i can't escape the feeling that i've already read it - but that time it was many times better - it was "Lord of Rings". All characters, places and situations from "Sword of Shannara" were stolen from Tolkien. Allannon is the copy of Gandalf, Shea is the copy of Frodo, Shady Vale is the copy of Shire... This list goes on and on and on and will never see the end. Thus the book contains nothing original - and that is why it is so boring. It's the shame for Brooks.

Summary: BROOKS RULES!
Review: I am sick and tired of people comparing this great book to The Lord of The Rings, they are completely different! to begin with the Rings stunk! tolkien is an idiot! all his works stink! all his books are so bland and boring! buy this book!
