Summary: READ THIS BOOK (SLOW BEGINNING)
Review: My Brother Sam is Dead is an exciting heart beating novel, that I recommend to people who don't quit books early. I will admit that the beginning is slow moving but after that you just want to keep reading. This novel is about how Sam goes to war ignoring his dad's decisions not to. Even with the slow beginning this novel is great for all ages that have some excitement in their life.

Review: This book tells the story of a young man named Sam Meeker, who decides to go off to fight for the Patriots in the revolutionary war against the British troops, known as the Tories, or "Lobsterbacks," because they wear red. Sam is a lucky child; his family runs a succsesful tavern, attends Yale, and girls love him. Yet he fights for "freedom," and steals his fathers gun, called a brown bess, to fight in the war. His father, Eliphalet, is not a mean man, and loves him, yet is very dissapointed that 1. He is fighting the war, and 2. He is fighting as a Rebel. Tim, Sam's brother, feels that his life is "on hold," because he can't go off to, say college, until the war get over. Meanwhile, he has to work hard at the tavern. He feels that it is unfair, but his father says that injustices are the way of God's world. Mrs. Meeker generally agrees with her husband, but loves Sam, and cares immensly about him. She says that "War turns men into animals." A character who I found very interesting was Jerry Sandford. He was the first person in the book to talk about the horror of children getting killed in the war ("You think that because you're only a child they won't hurt you, but they will. They've been killing children in this war. They don't care. They'll throw you on a prison ship and let you rot."). Sam's leader is a real man, Benedict Arnold. I am very impressed. Review: The book called My Brother, Sam, Is Dead, by James Lincoln & Christopher Collier has an extraordinary plot and incredible descriptions. The story takes place in Redding, a Tory town in Conneticut, during the American Revovution, where Patriots are marching in and out. The story is told through the perspective of Tim Meeker. Tim has a brother, Sam, who is part of the American army, while the town and his family are loyal to the British government.
One day, Sam is framed by people stealing a cow. Sam is then arrested by the peole who really stole the cow and is imprisoned. About to see Sam executed, Tim fights to give his brother his deserved freedom. You'll enjoy this book because of it's vivid verbs and amazing, although fast, plot. Sit in a comfortable chair and get ready for a great book.

Review: Although many people may have liked this book, i did not. I thought that it was a good historical book but over all not so great. I thought that this book was not very well writen and could have used less swears. i hope this is helpful to you.

Review: Even if you doze off in history class, this book will keep you reading until you're done. It makes you appreciate and feel what patriots did risked for you in the American Revolution. It's not a slow dragging book, but rather a fast paced book. Everyone can enjoy it while learning about the seriousness of our amazing history!

Review: My Brother Sam Is Dead,by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier is the most exciting book I have ever read.I love to read about history and I learned a lot about history from this book.
It's 1775 and the Revolutionary War is about to begain.In a Tory town called Redding there is a family with two children named Sam and Tim.Sam is 16 years old and going to a college named Yale.He is a soldier for the Patriots,but his father is on the British side.
I loved reading this book.It was interesting and sad at the same time. I could not believe how much of the book was actually true.I felt surprised because it was so sad.I felt like I knew what the charactors felt like.In the beginning I didn't want to read the book,but when I started I didn't want to stop.I don't like reading about killing,but it got so interesting I just kept reading.Finally in the middle of the book it got really interesting.
The book discribes how brave all the soldiers really were.They would get killed just to save their country.I don't think I would be that brave to do something like that just to save my country.I would like to read another book about the Revolutionary War soon.

The main charecters are family that have two children named Sam and Tim. Sam just got home from college and he wants to off to war. The Patriots need more men. Will Sam go off to fight for his country and risk his life, or will he listen to his family and stay home to help around the tavern? I loved the stoy My Brother Sam Is Dead. The author didn't make the events up. The really did happen! The author also put a lot of time into the story for research. I think if you like the Revolutionary War this book is for you!!
