Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: I read this book for my book report ... this was a pretty good book. The writing was excellent and even though the title gives the climax of the book away it was still great ... Well FYI but all books don't need to be action packed with excitement like a James Bond movie. The book was excellent but quite sad at the end even if the the title did give it away. So if you're looking for good literature then it's a great book, but if you don't want to be depressed than I do not reccomend this book to you.
Rating: Summary: my brother sam is dead Review: i read this book for english and i thought it was pointless. The main character, Tim, didn't do anything but stay at home and wait for his brother to come back from the war. It would have been a lot more exciting if Tim actually fought. Also, the title tells you what happens in the end, so there is no surprise. I would not reccomend this book because it was boring and had no action.
Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam Is Dead : Boring, yet informational Review: I am currently reading this book for a project in my Reading Language class. I find this book very boring, but it does cover a lot of history and real-life situations a teenager would go through during the Revolutionary War. It is a nicely written book but it does not keep my attention.
Rating: Summary: A Different View of the Revolution Review: This book is historical fiction. I really liked it because it portrayed the reality of the of the American revolutionary war in a very different way than the history books. It highlighted the personal toll it took on families and neighbors and illustrated the horror of war, even a war with a just cause and a favorable outcome. I give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam IS Dead Review: My Brother Sam Is Dead is a book that describes many things: the thoughts of a young Tim Meeker who sees the war between the british, continentals, and loyal tories draw closer and finally consume his family. His brother joins the continental, while the rest of Tim's family remains loyal tories. Then there was the war with the british. One thing it didn't describe well, was either fighting his brother Sam or his father. Wasn't Tim Meeker staying as torie against his own will ? He was too young to battle, or live off his own as a messenger. If he insisted that he agreed with the continentals, what help would he have brought them ? He never really fought wiht his father seriously. I still enjoyed and liked this book, though, despite some of my questions. It was interesting to see from Tim Meeker's point of view...
Rating: Summary: A terrible Book I was forced to read Review: I had to read this book for summer reading. Normally I love summer reading becasue I love to read but I hated it this time. I was forced to read my brother sam is dead. I was not interested. I thought it would be about Sam on the battlefield which would be interesting but it was about his brother's boring life. The only good part was the end because then I could stop reading and start a better book.
Rating: Summary: Written by a 11 Year Old Boy- Great Book! Review: Tim is just an average boy from the revolutionary war period who works with his father and mother in their tavern and goes to school. His brother, Sam (who Tim looks up to as the perfect brother) has been at college for a year and occasionally comes home for a visit. One day Sam shows up on their doorstep in uniform and announces that he has joined the Patriots in the fight for freedom and needs his fathers' gun to fight. Sam's father is a Loyalist who will not help the war against his mother country. He refuses Sam's request for his gun. Sam chooses to take his fathers' gun without permission and then runs away to the rebel army, not to come home for the next 3 years. Tim is now forced to choose which side he is on. This is a war between father and son, between country and people and Tim is in the middle of it. Tim will have to become a man fast, face the cruelties of the world and fight like a man for his family and country. This book has you hanging on the edge every second. It is a great book because it has battles (which I loved); both oral and physical. I think both types are just as harmful. If you like war books this is the book for you. I give this book five stars. It has great historical value and is beautifully written; an exciting historical war book that can be read by children 10 years of age and up. No other revolutionary war book even comes close to topping this!
Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam is Dead Review: My brother Sam is dead is by far the best book I have ever read even though I m only in eight grade. It is the only book I have ever read twice. It all starts when Sam decides to leave Yale and go join the continental army and fight the lobsterbacks he comes home and steals his father's gun and runs off to join the army leaving his family to take care of the farm and the tavern. But when the war comes home to Redding Ridge it suddenly becomes very real to Sam's little brother Tim that what Sam is fighting for is worth fighting for and there is a war out there. I personally recommend this book to all young readers. Have fun!

Rating: Summary: What i thought Review: Tim Meeker is a teenage boy with a lot to live up to. His older brother, Sam, is close to being a town idol. Sam Meeker has always been smart, brave, and knows what the right thing to do. Most of the town that they live in admires Sam, but especially Tim. One night Sam comes home from collage and tells all about the recent battle in the war of the revolution. His father is extremely unappreciative of the way Sam addresses the King and his troops. Sam doesn't feel that King George III should rule over the colonies. Therefore he joins the army to fight against the British. In the mean time, Tim is going back and forth on whom to side with: Sam, who's always right, or father, who's the head of the family. Not only does he have them to side with, but also more than half the town is Tories (loyalists). Tim sees Sam once in a great while and only for a short time. Soon, his father is taken away by the British troops, a few of his friends are killed by the same men, and his brother is about to be killed because of a crime he didn't commit! Later on, Tim and his mother find out that his father had caught a disease while in a prison ship and died. Now all that Tim has left is Sam. He talks to some of the generals, but no one is willing to save Sam's life.
