Summary: The Meeker Family is torn apart by War, just as in Vietnam.
Review: My Brother Sam is Dead is set during the Revolutionary War, but it makes the reader feel as if he or she is there. The book is written in modern English, so young adults can read it easily. The authors also use many facts about the Revolutionary War to make the book seem more realistic. It is a very exciting historical fiction book. Because this book is young adult literature, the characters in this book are teenagers. Kids whose older siblings leave for college, for example, can relate to this book. Other teenagers might be able to relate to this book if their older siblings don't get along with their parents. There is also the fact that families are torn apart by the Revolutionary War, just as families were torn apart in the 60's by the Vietnam War. It is about the Meeker family, a family living in the town of Redding, Connecticut, in the time of the Revolutionary War. The town of Redding was a "Tory Town," which meant that most everybody in the town was a loyalist to the King of England. The Meekers were a respected family, especially the oldest son Sam. But when Sam decides that he will join the army on the patriot side, the views of many changed. Instead of an average working boy, he suddenly becomes a reckless foolish boy with false hopes of winning the war against Britain. In this riveting and exciting book you will read about how Tim, Sam's little brother, will cope with the loss of his brother, and also how his family will adjust to the absence of Sam. This was an extremely good historical fiction book. It appeals to young adult readers. In the eyes of most of the kids in our group this was a very exciting and suspenseful book.

Summary: Entertaining and educational
Review: This book is a great book for children learning about the Revolution. I read the book when I was in fifth grade. This year I will enter my senior year of college. At the University I have had the opportunity to be tought by one of the book's authors - Christopher Collier. During the classes that I took with professor Collier, I read several of his other works and I highly recommend all of them. These authors have a gift. They are capable of relating, truly and accurately, historical facts and conveying understanding of how and why this country was founded. Yet, thier works, both fiction and non-fiction, are enjoyable to read and even entertaining. For those who enjoyed "My Brother Sam is Dead" as a child, I highly recommend reading "Decision in Philadelphia" (by the same authors) as an adult.

Review: This book tells the hardships of war. It reshapes your perspective on war. I read it in 3 days. It takes turns that are as enjoyable as unexpected, just when one problem is finishing another one starts. When someting bad happens, their is always hope that it will be amended. I would recomend this to anybod over 10 years old. I had to do a book report on it and got an A(100).

Summary: I think it was an interesting book.
Review: My Brother Sam is Dead was full of a lot of action and excitment about the Revolutionary War. If you don't really like to read like I do, you might like to read this book. I did. Parents if you don't like books with cussing in it, it only has about 3 cuss words in the whole book, it is not that bad. I would recommend this book for the ages of 12 and up.
