Rating: Summary: This special book earns a place in our heart Review: In 1775, Tim Meeker was 12 years old and was living in a family owned tavern in Redding. Sam, his older brother decided to join the Rebel Troops, even though the rest of his family was Tory. When Life,Tim's father, was making his annual trip to Verplank's Point Sam was not able to go so father had to take Tim instead. They went to get supplies when a gang of cowboys took father on a prison ship to die and he does. This leaves Tim and his mother to take care of the tavern. Meanwhile prices are going sky high. People have little food as it is because of the war. The war is getting closer to Redding. The British are coming into Redding and killing all of the Rebels. Mother refuses to accept all that is happening right around her. When Sam is in town he visited his family. When cattle thieves steal cattle Sam is framed for it. The General sentences him to death. He was shot about a month later. It amazes us that he was killed for something he did not even do.This can't be justice.
Rating: Summary: "Extrordinary Book" Review: This Book was about the Revolutionary War. Tim had an older brother named Sam. At sixteen Sam was convinced that the rebel cause was worth fighting for. When Sam stole his father's gun, ignoring Tim's effort to stop him, he went off to fight the British. Like all rebellions, the revolutionary war was a conflict without territory or loyalties. The lives of ordinary people and animals, were in danger. Sam, Tim and their mother and Fatherwere all caught up even in their little tory town of Redding.
Rating: Summary: This book was amazing Review: I was given this book to read for school and I enjoyed itthoroughly. This thrilling saga of a family torn apart by war gets mybiggest and heartiest 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: blarghh Review: I hated this book. I'll admit right away that I hate sad books but this really was unbearable. First of all, it would have improved the book somewhat if the title hadn't given away the ending. Not only was I not surprised when Sam was killed, I found myself dreading reading the book. (I had to read it for school) I think that this type of writing shouldn't be encouraged. The real world is horrible enough, why should kids be forced to read tragic literature on it?
Rating: Summary: I beliieve this is a great book about the Revelutionary War! Review: I just finished reading My Brother Sam is Dead for my 7/8th grade english class. It took me forever to read it,but not because it wasen't a good book.I liked the setting, and the plot of this book.L had never read a historicle fiction and was suprised that i ended up liking it. I should read more historicle fiction books because real events make interesting backgrounds for stories. I thought it took a while for this book to "take off",but around the 5th chapter i was hooked. The characters in the book appealed to me. The author tells the story from the point of viewof Tim's,a young adolescentboy, and i think that was a good choice. Tims older brother,Sam,is rebellious and goes his own way and I know guys like that. Tim is confused by his brother, and the war, and the reader has to go through all emotions that Tim does. I read another historical fiction book for class, but I liked this book the best. The story has conflict and surprises and seems real. The story is about a boy, like me, who lives during the Revolutionary War. He is forced to grow up by the events that happen. This is a great book that I think you should read.
Rating: Summary: I really liked this book. Review: My Book review is on the book My Brother Sam is Dead. The contents of this book are the sad ending, which was when Sam was killed by his own side and when his father was killed by his own side. The characters in this book are Tim, Sam, Sam's father, and Sam;s side's crew. Tim had a hard time with deciding if he wants to be a loyalist or a patriot. Sam's father argues with sam a lot over which side to be on. In this Historical Fiction Book it tells about the Wars and how the Wars were won. I read this book at home and at school. My 7th/8th grade teacher chode this book for the class to read. She cose the book in the fall of 1999. I liked this book because it told about the wars and how the families took it. I also liked this book because it had a good title. I would compare this Book to the book standing in The Light. If you have to read a Historical fiction Book for a class, read Standing in The Light.
Rating: Summary: I thought that this was a good book over the Revelution. Review: This is a historical-fiction. It is about a family and how it gets split up by a war. There is a boy that doesn't know what to do. The dad and his older son are on diffrent sides of the revelution. My 7/8th assigned this book to the class. I usually don't like assigned books but this one i really liked. i thought that this was a good book. it was hard to follow along at first but after that it wasn't to bad. that was the only thing i didn't like. i did like how the writer made it feel like you were in the book.
Rating: Summary: The book was about the Revolutionary war. Review: I read the book My Brother Sam is Dead in my 7/8 English class. The story was about the Revolutionary War. The setting was right for the story because the book told me so much about what the war was like and when it took place. There is a boy telling the story named Tim. Tim was undecided whether he was a Loyalist or a Patriot. His dad is a Loyalist but his older brother Sam fought for the Patriots. I liked the book because it told me so much about the war and how it came up. The book told me what a Cowboy was back then, and what the different sides were. I like history of wars and what the colonies were like. The ending was unexpected but made the book a surprise.
Rating: Summary: Historical-fiction book Review: This book was an assigned as a 7th grade Knglish assignement. The teacher chose to read. Our class read this book in the fall of 1999. I read the most part of this book at home. I think this book is more of a kick back relax sort of book. This book is an historical-fiction which takes place in the Revolutionary War. The story gives the point of view of a young boy whose brother goes off to fight in the war. The boy is faced with a challenge, in which he has to decide whether to be a Patriot like his brother or a loyalist like his father. This book has a political conflict, character conflict, and a personal conflict. This book is a good example of irony because what I was expecting didn't happen. With the way the book started I didn't expect this ending. I liked this book because it kept you on the edge of you seat. It keeps the reader interested by throwing corners at you when you least expect it. It taught me about a historical period. It gave examples of how those people were living in those conditions. I thought it was good book because it told you everything you wanted to know about that period.
Rating: Summary: Historical fiction book about the Revolutionary War. Review: My Brother Sam Is Dead is a book I read for my 7th-8th English class. It was for a required grade. Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. It was a historical fiction book about the Revolutionary War. The conflicts in the book made it interesting. There were a variety of conflicts in MBSID. For example, there were personal, character, and political conflicts. The point of view of the book was a young boy. I think the author chose this boy becuase he had to make a decision either against his brother or against his father. The story took place in Redding, Connecticut. In my opinion, I thought it had an unexpected ending, full of irony. I both liked and disliked the book. I enjoyed learning some facts about the Revolutionary War. I have never really enjoyed any books about the war because I never understood any of it. AFter I found out some of the word used in MBSID, I learned a plethora about that particular war. The book was also interesting and suspenseful. There were also some unexpected events that occured in the book that made it hard to put down. I believe that the second half of the book was better than the first half because the second half was full of events. A criticism of the book was that at times, it was confusing. The hard part about the book was you had to try and remember what the words meant or you would be lost. I didn't dislike many thing about the book; the one thing that I noticed the most was that parts of it were boring. Sometimes, I had to keep reading more and more until it got better. A comparison of MBSID is a book called Northe to Freedom. It was also a historical fiction book. Even though I enjoyed MBSID very much, I liked North to Freedom better. This particular book wasn't about a war. North to Freedom was more interesting because it had more events happen throughout the book, unlike MBSID. I like a challenge once in a while involving literature, but North to Freedom didn't have very many vocabulary words that I didn't understand. I feel that MBSID needed more interesting topics to keep the reader entertained. I wanted to read MBSID becuase the cover looked interesting and it "caught" my eye. The cover for North to Freedom didn't look very exciting, so I figured that MBSID would be better than North to Freedom. I recommend reading both My Brother Sam Is Dead and North to Freedom. They are both excellent books.
