Summary: My Brother Sam Is Dead
Review: My Brother Sam is a real good read. If your into a book with a lot of action in it and just about all types of conflicts then My Brother Sam Is Dead is for you. Most parts are full of action, but I have to be honest with you, some parts are really boring. But you should bear with it because some parts are really exciting. The main struggle is for Tim Meeker a boy around 14 or so to choose which side to fight on. As I'm sure most of you know the American Revolutionary War was fought between the British and the Americans.Tim's older brother Sam came out of Yale University and ran to join the American army. Even though the rest of his family were tories which means they were still loyal to the king. When Sam presented his new idea to his family, he and his father "Life" for short got into there fight as usual. Sam decided to run away. But the real reason he came back was to get his father's gun, and then to run off and fight with. The rest of the story is about Timmy's struggle trying to find out what to do. I'll also let you know that something terrible will happen to Sam and "Life." I rated this 3 stars because like I said some parts were really boring but the overall plot was really well thought up. This is my review for My Brother Sam Is Dead.

Summary: An Interesting Way of Learning about the Revolutianary War
Review: This is a really interesting way of learning about the revolutionary war. I enjoyed reading this book but at the begining it is kind of hard to understand the story like when Sam gets into really big arguments with his father and Tim was to choose between his own dad and his brother. The part that I kind of hated was when he get into an argument with his father and it's because he wants to go to war and his father wont let him I cannot see why would he want to go to war if he is having a great life in Redding. I would not go to war if I am having my collage payed and have all the comfourts in the world and would want to through all that away just to go to war. Or when he get into another fight with his dad Sam is saying that he is already a man and he dosent need no body to be making his own decisions so why is he still living with his family and dosent move out and have his own place. I guess he is just trying to prove to Betsy that he is already a man and he dosent need his father help in any way. I think this book has a little bit of every thing that is in life like history, love, friendship, pressure the sorts of thing that we are facing now in time no matter what time place or year we are in we are still going to be facing the same obtacles in life thatn every one else.

Summary: Outstanding!!!!
Review: I had to read this book for a college class, and what a powerful book! This story revolves Tim Meeker, who's brother Sam goes to fight the Revoutionary War. This is also a story on a family and a town torn apart. Some want to fight aganist the King, and others on the town (and the Meeker family) are aganist the King. What makes this story so powerful, is that it's focus isn't on the war itself, but the families that are left behind. WHen a someone fights in a war, they put their life on the line for their country. Then a death has some honor. Well for Sam, this was not so. I won't say how and why Sam had to die, but it was void of honor. This powerful novel will also show the reader what happens to the innocent people. My Brother Sam is Dead also shows what our soilders did, who were considered the "good guys". This is a powerful read and I highly suggest this book. You won't be sorry.

Summary: Depressing, Depressing, Depressing,
Review: Okay, I guess I can reveal the end of the book this time: his brother Sam DIES. I really enjoyed this book, but the end is so depressing it ruins the entire book. It just ENDS--cuts off! The author very effectively gets you attached to the main characters, then kills one of them off and never returns to the narrator. We never get a chance to hear the hero's thoughts on his brother's death. This is a very good book with an outstanding plot, but be prepared to be totally shut down at the end. It wasn't an emotional, cry, cry, cry ending; it just completely SHUTS you and the book DOWN.

Summary: A classic Revolutionary War novel
Review: The Colliers are probably the best brother writing team in America; James Lincoln Collier's books on jazz are easily the most readable as well. "My Brother Sam is Dead" helped to launch the revolution in young adult writing back in the early seventies. To this day, the only young adult novel about the American Revolution that's any better is "Johnny Tremaine" by Esther Forbes, which "My Brother Sam is Dead" was clearly modeled on as the tale of a young man torn by the pressures of choosing sides in a war. A reader learns more history from Forbes as well, I think. But "My Brother Sam is Dead" is a more accessible story, and more enjoyable to students who may not be all that fond of history. A good read, and one that has weathered the years well.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Definitly a worth while read
Review: In this novel the two authors present a completely neutral look at the revolutionary war. Through young Tim's, the son of a tavern owner, eyes you see how the war effected his family, his emotions, and his relationship with his brother. Not only is this book a good piece of historical fiction, but deep emotions shine through, and even readers of less complex material can understand. I would definitly read this book. It just might broaden your veiw piont.
