Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam is Dead Review: My Brother Sam is Dead is an outstanding novel with exciting events on every page that you turn. When you read this book, you will picture a family with a mom, a dad, and two brothers, Sam and Tim, going through hardships, everyday, every moment, of the bloody Revolutionary War. Tim is very emotional about Sam going off to fight in the war, but being the son of a loyalist is even harder. The story takes place in the pleasant town of Redding, Connecticut. Well, it's pleasant until the British come marching into the town in their bright, proud red uniforms, ready to fight the rebels. I highly suggest that you read this book if you want to know more about history and the hard times of the Revolutionary War.
Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam is Dead Review: The book My Brother Sam is Dead is tragic yet engrossing. The characters in this book are Tim, Sam, father and mother. Tim is caught between his father, who is a Loyalist, and his brother Sam, who is a Patriot, and can not decide whose side to be on. This book takes place in Redding, Conneticut in about 1775 during the Revolutionary War. Tim has many adventures such as the death defying trip to Verplanks Point. Tim is hardworking and confused. His brother Sam is courageous and intelligent. I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy historical adventures.

Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam Is Dead - A Cool Book Review: My Brother Sam Is Dead is a very realistic book. It gives the reader an idea of how bad war really is. It shows what can come of war: death and sadness. In the story war is breaking apart families. The main character is Tim Meeker. His brother, Sam, is fighting on the side of the patriots while his father supports the English king. Tim doesn't know what side to be on. He's split between his brother and his father. Most people are used to reading books about the Revolutionary War that based on the patriots' thoughts and ideas. This book gives you experiences from both sides, Patriot and British. I recommend that you read this book!
Rating: Summary: A family in the Cival War Review: I had to read this book because we were learning about the Civil War at school. I will tell you two things about why I liked about the book and two things about what I didn't like about the book.I liked this book because it made me understand that a lot of people died in the Cival War just to make America a free country. I liked the book because it teaches you the importance of forgiveness. Tim is a boy in the book who forgave his brother, Sam for running away and left Tim doing all the work in the family tavern. Tim forgave his brother because he knew he was doing the right thing. The parts of the book I didn't like were the ending and that Sam had to fight in the army for three years and he was acused of stealing cattle. He did not do it but was found guilty and was executed. I didn't like the ending because he just died and the book was over. I would have liked if Tim would have gone back home to see how his mother would have reacted to the news.

Rating: Summary: Wars Have Two Sides Review: In this action-filled novel, Collier and Collier present both sides of the American Revolutionary War without prejudice through the eyes of a fourteen year old boy who is torn between love and loyalty to his father, who is loyal to the king, and his older brother, who strongly believes in the revolution. As the novel, which is based on a true story, unfolds the reader begins to understand how strong political convictions can tear a family to shreds, when Timmy Meeker vascilates between the two positions seeing both sides commit atrocities. The authors use irony brilliantly to depict the unfairness of war. I learned more about American history from this novel than from any history book. I would recommend this book for mature readers in the fifth grade to college students who must report on a book from the historical fiction genre. In fact, anyone who want to know more about the American Revolutionary War.
Rating: Summary: Lacking in Creativity Review: While this book was well written in terms of accuracy and vocabulary, the plot I found hard to take. It was not unrealistic, but it was a broken record. I can see how someone who has never before read Historical Fiction could find this book a masterpeice, but I cannot see how anyone with any history with these types of writing can think it anything but a waste of time. I too was required to read this for my 8th grade history class and while I made it through, I cannot help myself but to laugh at the amateur way it was written. A Loyalist father with a patriot son and a son torn between must have been very hard to think up, or it would have been for a 12 year old. I give props to the author for their word usage and way of keeping the reader interested, but other than this, I can give the book no praise.
Rating: Summary: 3 star rating: My Brother Sam Is Dead! Review: I had to read this book for school. I would say this is a pretty good book but boring on the other hand. My Brother Sam is a story about two brothers who lived back in the days of the Revolutionary war. The oldest brother Sam goes of to fight in the Revolutionary war. The youngest brother is left alone with his mom in Connecticut hoping his brother will come back even after twists and turns they had took earlier in the book. Tim Meeker has to run the tavern his self, also he has to get the new cattle and do all of the chores. I would say this book will challenge minds of all sorts, and what the heck, any time you need something to read, go to your nearest library and pick it up. You might get something out of it!
