Rating: Summary: This book is awesome!! Review: In my 8th grade English class I had to read My Brother Sam Is Dead as a reguired historical fiction book. I read the book in class as well as out of class on my own time. My Brother Sam Is Dead takes place during the Revolutionary War in a little town called Redding. Tim, a teenager, is telling the reader his feelings of the war and how the war affected him. I think teh author choose to tell the story through Tim because he was torn between being a Loyalist like his father or a Patriot like his older brother Sam. Tim's father doesn't think that his family shoyuld be involved in the war and Sam thinks it's his duty to fight for his country. Irony, was what made the book My Brother Sam Is Dead interesting. A good example is when Tim finds out his father had died on a British Jail Ship. This was unexpected because he was a Loyalist and he died on British Jail Ship. I expected him to die on a Patriot Jail Ship. Once you read what happens, your like I didn't expect that to happen. The same thing happens to Sam at the end of the book, but in a different way. In My Brother Sam Is Dead there were three main conflicts. The conflicts were personal, political, and character. Tim was the character withthe personal conflict. He was trying to decide whether to be a Patriot or a Loyalist. Tim knew his father had his reasons for being a Loyalist and so did his brother Sam. Tim wanted to be like his father, but also wanted to be like his brother Sam. The next big conflict was the political one. England and The Colonies were fighting over who got to run The Colonies. England thought they should get to run them because they had founded The Colonies. The people living in The Colonies thought they should get to run The Colonies because they lived there and didnt' believe in England's rule. The last conflict was between Sam and his father. This kind of conflict is called a character conflict. Sam wanted to go to war and fight an the Patriot side, while his father didn't think he should fight in the war. Sam's father was also a Loyalist so he didn't believe in anyhting the Patriots did or thought was right. In the book My Brother Sam Is Dead there were many great parts that I enjoyed. One part of the book that really got me interested was when Tim and his father were ambushed on their way to Verplex Point to trade the cattle for supplies they needed for their tavern in Redding. An other part was when Tim finds out Sam took his father's only gun, Brown Bess, when Sam's father specifically told Sam not too. If I had to pick a theme for the book it would most likely be "Everything happens for a reason." To me, it was like everything that happened to Tim changed the way he lived, acted or even thought. My Brother Sam Is Dead was full of suspense all the way through the book. I could hardly put the book down since I started reading it. I also read a historical fiction book called, One Thousand White Women. It was great too! One Thousand White Women was written in a journal form and I liked that format better than the traditional story form of My Brother Sam is Dead. I hope you enjoy both of these books as much as I did.

Rating: Summary: Sam on My Brother Sam (is Dead) Review: This book was pretty good. It does have some language if you haven't heard. It is about a boy named Tim and his father and everyone else in the town is a torie. Except his brother, Sam, that takes his father's gun's and joins the continental army against his fathers wishes. Now Tim wants to do what his brother did but he doesn't want to disapoint his father. So now he is faced with a tough decision...
Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam is Dead-An 8th grader's veiw Review: This novel was a pretty good read. I would recommend it for readers 11 and above. Mild language is spread throughout the book. I was upset after reading about the horrors and brutality of the war, and so i believe thatit should not be read by children of a delicate age. Teenagers are most likely to enjoy this novel because of their relation to the character. I know that I could relate to Tim Meeker when he grumbled about his parents, brother, and chores. The plot is very attention-grabbing. It was definently a page turner. The novel's plot focuses mainly on Tim Meeker struggling to adapt to his life. He begins to mature after losing his father, and after his brother leaves for the war against his father's wishes.
Rating: Summary: I didnt want to read it, but i loved it. Review: I read, My Brother Sam Is Dead. I liked this book a lot. It is not the usual kind of books I read but I really enjoyed this book. It kept me just wanting to keep on reading it was so good. A lot of unexpected things happened in the story. All Tim Meeker's life, Tim looked up to his brother, Sam. Sam is very smart and brave and always knows the right thing to do. In fact, everyone in Redding admired Sam Meeker... until now. Now Sam is part of the American revolutionary army. He talks about defeating the British and becoming independent and free. However, not everyone in town wants to be a part of this new America. Most people are loyal supporters of the English King, especially Tim and Sam's father. The war is raging and Tim knows he'll have to make a choice. However, how can he choose- when it means fighting his father on one side and fighting is brother on the other? I would recommend this book to everyone. This is almost all the genres. Mystery, historical fiction, suspense and sad. It's a GREAT book. I hope you read... MY BROTHER SAM IS DEAD.

Rating: Summary: A great suspense book to read. Review: The book that I read was My Brother Sam is Dead. I read this book in my seventh grade English class. My 7th grade English teacher picked this book out. My Brother Sam is Dead is during the Revolutionary War.. My Brother Sam is Dead was about a boy named Sam. Sam is 16 years old and lives in a tavern. When you turn 16, during this time, you are considered a man. Sam wanted to go to fight for freedom against the British. Sam's dad, Mr. Meeker, was a Loyalist. Sam's dad did not want Sam to go off to war. Sam disobeyed him and went anyway. My Brother Sam is Dead is about a family in conflict because they support different sides of the war. The reader gets to know all members of the family and their opinions. After reading the book you still don't know what side you would have been on - I was sure I would be a Patriot, but after reading the book, I'm not so sure. I think that this book is a great book. The book has many setting changes that make it better than most. I also liked the book because it was teaching me many things about the Revolutionary War that I didn't know. When I started to read the book it was not very good. But as the story go on, and after the class started to talk about it, I liked it more. I think that it is a good historical fiction book for a class to read. This book has inspired me to read more historical fiction.
Rating: Summary: If you love action this book is made for you! Review: I'm reviewing My Brother Sam Is Dead. It is about a family in the Revolutionary War. There is Sam, Father, mother, and his younger brother. The father is a person that always thinks everything going to be all right. He is big and strong. The younger brother is just a follower of Sam. The younger brother is about 9 years old. Sam is the main character and goes to war. He is fighting for the Americans. His father thinks he should be fighting for the Tories or called the British. It is about all the decisions they make during the War and what they do in the War. It takes place on a farm in Connecticut in the 1770's. It starts in the Spring and in time it takes about a year. Sam wants to help the Americans beat the British and some things happen in war. After coming home the father and the younger brother are caught in a blizzard. You should read this book. It has action and adventure. This book is incredible and there is not a reason why you shouldn't get up and buy this book. So buy it!
Rating: Summary: A good book. Review: My Brother Sam is dead was a good book. L liked the book becouse it took place in a setting was very discriptive. I liked the fact that a family in it fought for each other. Even when they disagrea on a lot of topics. The book has a good sence of humer for how seriose the topic of the story. Like when Sam was talking about stealing Old Bess (the gun) wile putting chicken eggs in a basket with holes in the bottom of it. The book is the third most favorite book I read this year. The book cept its carictors vary discriptive and interesting through the hole book. But the oldest sun Sam gets in trubble with the law. He gets exicuted. That was the only part of the story I was not interested in. Since the famaly was so close or becoase he was so nise he didn't even commit the crime. His father tries to help even though they don't always get along all the time.
Rating: Summary: My Brother Sam Is Dead ---> Loved it! Review: I had to read this book in my fifth grade class, and didn't think much of it. Now I am in seventh grade and understand things much better. I thought this book was great. It contained some bad language in places, and was pretty gory in others. I best recommend this book to ages 8 and up. Overall, I think that this book was fantastic, due to it's drama. Christopher Collier captured what it was like for famlies back in the days of war.
