Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I Am The cheese...... but is that all I am...? Review: This book is about a young boy named 'Adam Farmer' who because of a traumatic child expierience, has been placed in an Asylum. As he's frequently questioned, his mind takes a journey through the present and the past. "interesting"... Thats what I first thought of this book. it didnt make me feel exuberent. It isn't exciting but just interesting. Its contents at times became very gripping, keeping you intrigued. Having to remember certain moments was a hard task because even the most insignificant happenings became very important near the end. Like a jigsaw puzzle-piece: as small as it seems it still completes the whole picture. I felt it was quite confusing, which did help in keeping you glued to the book, But to confuse AND to drag-on at the same time becomes highly tedious. I felt the story wasn't very explanatory and in the end it did show that you had to find your OWN clues. As the book started I catergorized it as a psycological thriller. Clues were given but i realised there there was too much thinking to do for myself and most of the time my mind would be thrown off track and i'd be right back in square one. A major twist near the end of the story had my mind sorting out what was happening in the duration of Adam's 'journey'. I think that was what made the book more of a "I want to read this again" book.I really found the obviousness of the end of the book was attractive and yet when you're in the middle of the book, you'd never guess the ending! I Loved the title! At the end it seemed so relevent to Adam Farmer's Life. There was so much emotion in in the depths of the storyline: Trauma, fear, deceat! generally i liked it, And for someone to be interested, you've got to put yourself in Adam's shoes, see everything from his point of view. i wouldn't put an age limit to this. If you can read, then just go for it. It's truly amazing! Sphumlile Radebe
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: This cheese has a bad smell! Review: I thought that the book was interesting. In the beginning it was boring. It was boring because I wasntthinking on how important every word was until you work out each clue and that they ALL link up together. The most insignificant words that you wouldnt think about twice, counted the most. In the end every word and every clue came together to form the whole story. The characters were very well played in the book. They seemed very unusual and make you think that your life is much better and you should be grateful. Adam was very well portrayed and I enjoyed him a lot. The book is about a boy named Adam Farmer-or is it? He discovers things about his life. He stays in asylum because of a terrible thing that happened. Adam was very traumatised when he was younger and suffered memory loss. Adam was confused and you want to read the whole book to find out what is happening. The setting was very well thought of and very clever. You would never imagine the setting to be in the asylum. This book was a Psychological thriller. The plot of the story was slightly exaggerated. The story line isnt like any other book. This book is unusual in nature with a great twist at the end. It is an exciting book and you will enjoy reading the book. The book was serious, not light. The themes were death, lies, deceit and trauma. The book was very good. I read the cover and it said it all comes together on the very last page. I read the whole book and was disappointed because I hadnt thought about a very important sentence and it counted the most. We discussed it in class and it all came together.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: This cheese has a bad smell to it. Review: this is an interesting, gripping psychological thriller. it is about a boy, adam farmer, who is being interviewed about his past. Adam is on a journey to visit his father in Rutterburg. as he rides he thinks about the days when his family was one but wonders why they were running and who from, though after a traumatic experience he can't remember or doesn't want to remember very much. the characters in the book are very well described and form a picture in your mind. for example when adam speaks of his mother he always says that he remembers the smell of her lavender purfume or the smell cigars on her father. the way cormier adds just that little bit of extra detail to the setting like the characters fears, smells and interests is quite amazing. i know what you think when you hear the word thriller, but it's not gory like the thrillers shown on T.V today. it is about the ability to either push the infomation out of Adam or to scare him or play with his emotions so he will tell them what they want to know.Cormier is cleaver in the way he keeps you in suspense and is constantly chopping and changing the scenes. it is very effectively written and,as i have said, does keep you wondering and plotting what will happen next. when reading the book don't have a definite idea about how you think it will end 'cause it's probably not the way you want it or think it will end. the twist at the end took me by suprise and is very cleaver. if you're looking for a happy, light hearted book this is NOT the book to choose, i am the cheese is full of deceit, corruption, trauma, fear and death. it is a serious book and the message i get from it is, never rely on anyone when it is a matter to do with life or death, you never know who might turn their back on you. i really enjoyed i am the cheese although some parts were confusing, it all came together in the end. i would reccomend this book to persons of or over the age of twelve and to people who enjoy intriguing books. this is not the type of book for holiday reading but i must say it is extremely well written and had me pondering to the very last page.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I am con-cheesed Review: When I first started to read the book, I thought it was quite dumb and had no point, Also wandered why they kept jumping from scene to scene, but later I discovered about the many innuendo's in the book. The book is about a young boy who is physiologically disturbed due to his entire life being turned around when he finds out his true identity, the book describes how he journeys through his life and tries to overcome all the obstacles in his way. When you start the book you will wonder, "What on earth is going on?' I also wandered if Mr. Grey was there to help them or to kill them and if Amy was really Adams girlfriend and not someone else trying to kill him. I find the characters quite credible and realistic and one can believe the roles they play. The book is set in many different places: in a home n Vermont, a journey and in a home for the mentally disturbed. This is also a bit confusing, because the story switches from scene to scene. When you read the book, read it very carefully and pay attention to every little detail. You must expect a twist at the end so remember that you will be surprised. The author's purpose is a very serious one. The book contains many themes like fear, death, deceit, trauma and hope for the inevitable. The book has a wonderful and deep meaning, not in the way that one has to read between the lines, but more trying to figure out how everything links-up, I cannot reveal more about this because I would give the book away. The book teaches us a lot about life; not to trust everyone, to be careful etc. Once I completed the bookend read the last few pages, I thought it was an excellent book and it required a great deal of thinking (to read & write it) which was achieved well by Robert Cromier. I would recommend the book for you if you are under 12 years of age. If you like adventure, twist and suspense, you will enjoy this compulsive psychological thriller till the last line on the last page.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A review written by: Beatrice Maake- Moldy cheese Review: This book turned out to be a bit of a suspense thriller and a tradgedy. There are plenty of innuendos to keep the reader guessing. The tittle of the book is well connected to its contents, although it will only become apparent towards the end. This book is about secrets and how Adam has to uncover them to find the truth. It revolves around a person's journey and his reaction to what is around him I found that the caracters were credible. The actions comply with the situations they find themselves in. The 'hero'-Adam's father- accomplishes a feat which is brave and unselfish. I admire his unselfishness, courage and willingness to protect people and to help his fellow man. It is about a young boy Adam Farmer. He has suffered a traumatic experience and is having difficulty coping with the situation. He blocks the memories from his mind and is now trying to find out the truth, but what is the truth? Both settings include Adam. The book is set in two places. The one is based on his journey to find his father, and the other has to be decided by the reader. The settings arouse the readers curiosity, as well as being intriguing. This keeps the reader willing to read on to find the truth. Cormier's setting is realistically written, with added clues that do not give the story away. It is often believable, but towards the end one will see the significance of the two settings. It is a psychological thriller. The plot does at times seem unreasonable, but is based on rare true life occurances. The auther holds back at times and often gives clues with a double meaning or that can be interpretted differently by each individual. This is what keeps the readers reading, in order to find out what will happen, and what is the true reason for situations or events that happen in the book. There is a point in the book where you begin not to trust anything you have read so far . It changes the readers view and Adam's. The book is serious and teaches you thet one action can change your life, it teaches us about trauma and deceit, corruption and loyalty to the truth and sacraficing your family. It tells us of adam's Trauma and his feelings when he finally finds out what is happening. His parents deceit and all the emotions, situations and events that arise when thje truth for which Adam is searching, yet running from -is uncovered. I found the book intruing. It opens your mind to a different way of living, and tha way your life is not always in your hands. The suspense keeps the reader going and I enjoyed it even though it is not the type of book that I would have associated with me. The book can be read by anyone who is fifteen or older. It offers mental stimulation and is good for people who enjoy intellectual reading.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I Am .........CONFUSED - By Kay Hausler Review: The book, I am the cheese, writen by Robert Cormier, is a psychological thriller, that both interested and confused me. The book is confusing as it zig-zags through three stories and then finally ,at the end all the pieces of the puzzle come together. It is interesting to see how the boy is coping in all the stories, where he is trying so hard to achieve a goal in his mind. The whole storie is about the life of a young boy named Adam Farmer, who is an only child that has suffered a great trauma in his life and has blocked the episode out of his mind (or so he has led people to believe). When he was younger, he was very interested in finding out the secret of his family and as the years pass, he begins to investigate and unravel the mystery of his past. He finds clues that he doesn't understand, like his mothers phone calls, Paul Delmonte, the birth certificates and his father's old job as a journalist. The characters in the book are all very realistic and in a way, I admire his parents for the trouble they went to for their son. I also admire Adam for trying to protect his father even though he wasn't sure if it was worth the effort. When the book comes to an end, it is facinating to see where Adam Is and what he has been doing. In the beginning, I thought it was impossible for him to have gone on the long journey on his bicycle,on his way to Rutterburg, supposidly to see his father, but the auther explains where he actually is and then it was clear. I enjoyed reading this book, as the twist and the plot made it interesting and at times, Icouldn't put it down. I think that the author could have left out small sections,(for instance when he and Amy were doing numbers) to stop the reader from getting bored. I thought that it was the seriousness of sections (like when he was finding out about the secret) and the entrigues of where he is and what he is doing, that make the book so good. I also think that no matter what age the reader is, it will be confusing for them to read for the first half and then the entrigue of the ending will amaze them.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Mysteriously complicated Review: I thought I am the cheese by Robert Cormier was a brilliant book because it had so much mystery and I didn't want to put the book down. It is extremely complicated when the scenes change for example the scene where the psychiatrist is asking Adam Farmer(?)questions and it changed to Adam Farmers Journey. Teenagers of the age of sixteen should read this book, because I (a fifteen year old) had to read the book twice before I could understand it! I liked the suspense and mystery about the book. This book would appeal to people who love reading and take things seriously. The ending didn't come to me at all. I only knew what was going on until someone had explained it to me. The title of the book also confused me completely as it wasn't mentioned throughout the whole book. As you read on the more serious and complicated the book gets. Every page had more and more suspense. I didn't understand who was trying to kill who and why where they running away. After someone had explained the book to me I thought it was the most brilliant idea. I liked the idea of swopping scenes however I think the swopping of scenes should be more clear and self explanatory. This book shouldn't be read by our age group (fifteen year olds), because it is way too complicated and confusing. I found that the book was very interestind and I wanted to read more to find out more about what was going on. Other than that it was an amazing and brilliant book. :-)
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: "Me Myself and the Cheese" Review: The book was a blast, the book was a blast, heigh-ho the merry-o the book was a blast... 'I am the cheese' was written by Robert Cormier. It is a psychological thriller as well as a never-ending adventure. It is a mind-bending book, a lot of thought needs to be put in, in order to grasp what's going on. You need to act as a detective and analise the plots. Adam Farmer is on a twisted adventure to put his unusual life together. He is trying to piece his life together because as it lies it is a jigsaw puzzle with many blanks. He meets many different characters along the way and sometimes danger looms. The characters in the book are credible as things like this could happen in real life but we might not know .Not too much is given away about them .You are left wonder if they are more important than they are made out to be. Adam Farmer comes across as a shy, dependent character as we are led to believe but he is actually an intelligent person who is brave and full of life and ideas. The author was clever with the settings as he changed some of the surrounding and issues of the chapters that followed one another, for example one minute he is riding on his bike and the next minute he is with his friends Amy. This is clever as it keeps you in suspense for the chapters that were waiting ahead. The book seems reasonable. All the mysteries could easily happen to anyone in real life. Having to run away form people who are trying to kill you and your family, and not knowing whom you really are as Adam had two identities. In the book Adam Farmers adventures are all about taking risks and chances. This is the same with life; you can't live life fearing people and things. Sometimes risks are necessary for our own good. I thought the book was unusual yet original. It's for people who are into drama and suspense. It deals with death, corruption, fear, trauma and more that might grab your attention.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: "He is one with the cheese..." Review by Baz Review: The title of the book was quite strange i thought. Does Cormier want you to take it literally, figuratively , or both ways. It is built around someone who has lived with continuous running and falsehood. Basically, it is about someone who has literally been living a lie. Only, was it reall y a lie? If everything that you have ever known has been real for you, then is it really a lie? Think about it... Cormier has invented some very credible characters for this book. They always put their family first. They definately have some characteristics which i find admirable. For example, "Adam's" father always put his family and their safety first. The actioon in the book is also credible. the 'hero' Adam(or is it Paul) could really have ridden his bicycle to Rutterburg, or he really could be in an institute or he and his familycould really have been involved in a scandle involving the government. It was not unbelievable. Adam/Paul achieves a lot by dicovering who he really is. Set in the "present-past"(a few years back), it is easy to believe, and takes place in two places and on two levels. The first place is inside Adam/Paul's head and the second is inside and institute an institue not really for the insane, but more for the emotionally disturbed. The two levels it operates on are a normal every day story and a deeper, alternate motive. It is about a small boy called Adam Farmer [or is that really his name?] who has suffered a memory lapse. Or has he really had a memory lapse? Is he just pretending? Or is he merely blocking out things too painful to remember because of the terrible experience he had? The way Cormier has set it out , along with the plot makes it a gripping psychological thriller. It is also a mystery in some ways because you don't know what is going to happen until right at the end of the book.Cormier drops hints and tips all the way throughthe book, but a bit of reading between the lines is required.A few people may find it a bit confusing, but the overall effect is one of suspense and intrigue.Cormier tells you just enough to form a theory or two of your own. What i thought made the book even more interesting, was the fact that the plot had an unusual twist.Cormier uses quite a bit of symbolism. For example, riding on a bike could mean "a trip down memory lane" as it were. If you are looking for a bit of light, funny reading, i would not recommend this book. It carries a deeper message of "things aren't always what they seem", and has themes of lies, death, fear, corruption and trauma. It also seems to say that danger is out there and that we should realise it. My personal opinion of the book is that it's enjoyable and a bit like a jig-saw puzzle. Cormier allows you to fit the peices together on your own and to find out at the end just how close you were. The last few pages I found confusing and i would recommend reading it a few times. For me it had the deeper meanings of : life is full of danger things aren't always what they seem and life is what you make it. For me though, there is one that stood out amoung the others. "no matter what kepp going". To quote Savage Garden and their song 'TWO BEDS AND A COFFEE MACHINE'... "Another ditch in the road, keep moving. Another stop sign, keep moving on"
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: What!!! Review: The book "I am the cheese" fascinated me. I enjoyed the suspense, and it kept me interested to the last page. I don't understand what made the book interesting. I think it was because I never understood whatwas going on, but you feel that if you read a bit futher everything will fall into place. I was very interested in 'Adam's' mother because she was never made to seem important. I was curious why at the beginning of the story she was happy and livley and the suddenly she was withdrawn and depressed. I realised that something significant and traumatic must have happend to Adam and his family but the pain had been to great for Adam and he had bloked it out of his memory. I was alos interested in Adams journey to visit his father and I began to wonder if he had never met this man before and was going tosee him for the first time. The suddenly he wasin a 'hospital' and I got confused again because I wasn't sure how the hospital into Adam's life. I became suspisious because the shrink seemed more interested in Adams father than he was in Adam.
