Summary: I am the Cheese: a Stinker?
Review: "I am the Cheese" by Robert Cormier is not just a book about coming of age. It is very bizarre that Mr. Cormier used three narratives during the book; 1st person narrative from Adam on his journey to Rutterberg, 3rd person narrative about Adam's past and the tapes between Brint and Adam. In a way it was confusing and strange until the end; but in another way, it makes you want to read on until you find out what happens to Adam Farmer-the protagonist. I guess you can say Cormier pulled it off. A theme of the book would be alienation of the world. Adam feels like he can trust no one but himself. Even in the institution, Adam does not tell Brint everything. He tries to find his own identity throughout the book. Even when he finds out that his real name is Paul Delmonte, he is confused because he does not know whether he is Paul or Adam. A controversial theme is that Adam is up against three different organizations. They are after Adam because his father testified against a powerful organization linked to criminals. This theme is linked to historical moments such as the mysterious death of President John F. Kennedy. This is a reason this book might be contentious is that it reminds us of corruption in the world and that our government is tainted.
Adam Farmer is an individual against the world. His mother was never happy except when she called weekly to her sister but he never understood why (Adam did not know she called his aunt, or that he even had an aunt until the end of the book). His father had a friend-Grey-- that came to his house to talk every week. His girlfriend, Amy was completely different than him. Adam is also "fighting" against three different organizations that are actually linked to each other. The first one is the Witness Re-establishment program. Grey, an agent of that agency, wanted information from David Farmer, Adam's Father. Since he got no information, Grey betrayed the Farmers. Another Organization after Adam is the powerful, corrupt association whom David testified against. They killed David and his wife. They were probably sent by Grey. The last one is the institute in where Adam goes to recover his memory. It looks like Brint; the man who says is trying to help Adam recover his memory, is against Adam also. He believes that Grey should not be persecuted because of the murder of David and Louise Farmer. Adam can only trust himself in the world.
The book is not that controversial sexually or morally, but some people might see it politically immoral. Mr. Cormier shows us that the world we live in is not as perfect as we may think. Our world is corrupt. From the lowest criminal to the president of the US, it exists. Even in the United Nations, corruption exists. Last month, it was revealed that the Food and Oil Program from the United Nations was giving billions to Saddam Hussein while it let the Iraqi population die. Adam's identity was revealed late in the book. In a coming of age book, it would be revealed on the last chapter. Adam's quest to find his identity was long and harsh as it cost him his parents and his safety.
Robert Cormier's "I am the Cheese" is a book about a quest to find Adam's real identity. But when he finds his identity, he would rather have what he had before it. That is why it banned in certain places. In coming of age books, the protagonist's parents are not supposed to die. Adam had a stuffed animal called "Pokey the Pig" when he was small. He carried it throughout his voyage. It symbolizes the childhood he had before being relocated. It is also his only real possessions and that is why he holds on to it. This book explains that the world we live in is corrupted and full of traitors.

Summary: I am the Cheese (audiobook review)
Review: .
.
This is a Cormier psychological masterpiece of suspense and deception as Cormier leads the reader through twisted alleys of false reality and errant projections. Cormier's technique of vacillating between Adam's memories and present thinking is engaging. The rich tone and crisp pace of narrators Jeff Woodman (as Adam Farmer) and John Randolph Jones (a government official) add suspense and depth to the novel. Woodman's first-person narrative of Adam's quest for truth vividly portrays Adam's determination, fear, confusion, despair and courage. The ending, intriguing and realistic, perhaps symbolizes much of the world's perception of governments.

Summary: Freakin awe inspiring
Review: I recently read this book in eight grade literature class and it is one of the hardest books to grasp. It makes you think and it constantly makes you wonder what exactly is going on. This book is about corruption in the government and a boys goal of reaching his father at a hospital, seemingly. I would recomend this book for teenagers to adults it's simply stunning and very confusing so if your going to read it actually read it.

Summary: I am the Cheese Rules!
Review: I am the Cheese is an in-depth mental journey that keeps you guessing from page 1. Some say that it is mystery novel but in my mind it is almost the complete opposite. Sure there is a lot of suspense in the plot but you do not know that there is a mystery going on till the very end. I personally loved how the novel was written and am now a big fan of Robert Cormier. My favorite part in the novel was definitely the ending. Once you read the whole book and make it to those last few pages your head will explode!

Review: "I Am the Cheese" is a well written novel by Robert Cormier. You root for the main character as you discover his past along with him. Yuo don't know who the bad guys are while you and the government in the story try to find who are the killers of the boys parents. "I Am the Cheese" is a book for both teens and adults who have a chance to learn about the truths of the government. Robert Cormier teaches us ot question the government, and whether it's telling the truth or not. "I Am the Cheese" is a great book, and I give it two thumbs up.

Summary: GREAT!
Review: I thought this book was excellent! Although I was a bit confused at the beginning, towards the middle I began to understand it a lot better. The book was very deep and made you think about each sentence that was in it. Usually books make you confused at the beginning and it explains everything at the end, but this book was different. At the end, you were questioning things. It made you go through all the possibilities because it never gave you a direct answer on almost everything. I would advise everyone to read this!

Summary: FINAL TEST (yay?)
Review: :) hi everyone..im writing a paragraph review for my test in english...yay? i don't think so but here i go.....

I Am the Cheese was a book that I enjoyed - most of the time. It was definitely confusing until I got to the end and it suddenly dawned onto me what had happened. Adam Farmer was your not the average 14-year old teenage boy. He had gone through a lot. His father had found documents that somehow showed the government was corrupt. That was when all the trouble started - and for the reader, the confusion. However much confusing the book was, I still got a lot out of it. For instance, there were multiple themes throughout the story. Pokey the Pig - Adam's stuffed animal, was one example of a theme. Pokey represented Adam's last tie with his family. Also, he was a farm animal and that kind of relates back to the Farmer in the Dell sone, another theme. THis whole book is made up of themes and in my opinion, that was what made it confusing. Don't worry though, you'll understand it in the end as I did. Have fun reading :0

Summary: I am the Cheese
Review: Hello, my name is Greg M. For a school project i had to pick a book to read. I read I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier. I thought it was a very interesting book. It is about a teenage boy who is trying to unlock his secret past. He is also on a journey to visit his sick father in another town, at times this book is exciting and at other times it can be dull. He lives in Moumont, and he finds out his past in the end. I personally liked the book, it was all good except for the ending, that was okay. I think you should read this book if you like suspense, action, and adventure books. Thank you,
Greg M.

Review: I am The Cheese
I am the cheese is a great book and I give it five stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and had a very hard time putting it down. This book is definitely a page turner, there is not another book like it. It is very unique and well written. Robert Cormier ( the Author) writes it so that it allows you to get inside the heads of the characters so that even thought there situation is probably different then ours it allows us to relate. I would recommend this book to those of you who like to read mysteries. This is an especially strange book. Before going into detail on what it was about there are a few things that I must clear up first. This story bounces back between a past and two different presents. In the first present Adam (main character) is riding his bike to go and visit his father in the hospital. He takes with him a package for his father which you will have to read the story to find out the contents of this box. The second present is where Adam is in some sort of hospital or therapists office talking with someone named Brint (therapist or psychiatrist) about his past. On Adams bike trip he encounters many tough obstacles and mysterious happenings constantly occurring around him. He fights to keep his fathers package while many people try to steal it from him.
When Adam talks to Brint he can't remember a thing and Brint helps him to discover himself and reveal things from his past. Adam is a lonely sheltered boy with no friends and no other family besides his mother and father, no other living relatives. One day he meets this fun and adventurous girl named Amy who he later on becomes involved with. They met at the library when they bumped into each other, one going in one coming out. Amy I guess you could say is very blunt and confident, After she started talking to him about nothing she told him to meet her somewhere at a specific place at a specific time. She said that he would be perfect for one of her "Numbers" which I will later describe. Amy helps Adam to come out of his "shell" and enjoy life. She teaches him how to have fun (Adam apparently doesn't know how). Amy being the creative confident girl that she is comes up with weekly "numbers" in which they do strange things. For example one number was to go to a supermarket, fill up a shopping cart with as much food as possible and then just leave it somewhere in the store and run. Amy especially got great pleasure from seeing the puzzled look on the workers faces. Another number was to go to a hotel and turn all the do not disturb signs over so they said please come in or something along those lines. Amy made up new ones every week and didn't let Adam know the details of them until they were just about ready to start.
Adam lives with his mother and father who lead very strange lives that Adam never pays attention to. Adam's mother is an obsessive and somewhat narotic woman who hardly ever leaves her room and waits at the window everyday for Adam to come home from school and has a fit when he's even five minutes late. She doesn't trust anyone and later on you'll discover why and you'll probably agree with her. She also every Thursday at the same time goes up in her room locks the door and talks on the phone for hours on end. Adam's mother has done this for a very long time so Adam never suspected anything and learned that it was normal and not to ask any questions. Adam's father is a quite strange and mysterious man also. Once a week or so a man will come by the house and he and Adam's father went into the basement to talk. Adam learned not to ask questions about this either and would never be caught dead spying on his parents until one day. Something finally kicks in that lets Adam know that his family is quite mysterious and strange. Adam gets really curious and turns into a spy. One day when Adam's father was outside he goes through his office draws and pulls out an envelope labeled, "confidential". Adam cannot control himself and opens it to find a document that will change his life forever and discover that he can't trust hs family any longer. Adam also taps in on a Thursday to one of his mothers telephone conversations which reveals some more important information that will also alter Adam's future entirely. He realizes that his parents haven't been telling him the truth almost everything they've told him is a lie. You'll have to read the book to discover what I mean. This is the kind of book that you won't really understand until the very end. You have to pay attention to every little detail because everything in this story is relevant, whether it be just a phone number or a little stuffed animal. Everything in this story links together and everything builds on each other to form a shocking end. This is like I said before a very excellent and mysterious book with interesting characters and mysterious scenes that help to move the story along. This is a book I think that everyone should read, especially those who like a good mystery!
