Rating: Summary: Helped me, maybe you too Review: I found the AP US History Review book very helpful. The review was especially helpful - it was clear and concise. And the practice exams - "forget-about-it." The trick is that you have to already know what you are studying before you use the book because afterall, the book is just a review. It should only remind you of what you already know. The book is just brief enough to not cloud your mind and confuse you and is just comprehensive enough to get you everything you need to know. All said and done, I would definately recommend this book to anyone who wants to pass the exam, but beware, you must study too.
Rating: Summary: Honestly the best book for the Test and for the Course Review: I purchased this book early in the year so I could have an alternative to reading the long chapters in my history book. This book gives a great concise summary of all the material you need to know for the AP test in May. The information was great in picking out the important stuff from each section in history. Even on regular class tests, with just review out of this book and various sights on the Internet I was able to score A's on basically every single test I took. After taking the practice tests (6 is more than any of the other books) I was so well prepared for the test and several questions from this book appeared on the test in a different format. All my friends purchased various other books and I read those also, but it came no where in matching the information in this book. For every question on the practice test, a complete reason for the answer is given and is so helpful when learning from errors. You can't go wrong choosing this book.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful review book with realist DBQs Review: I took the AP test in May of 1999, and felt very confident in my performance. I haven't received my results yet, but the book was a huge help. I read most of the review section, and took 4 of the 6 practice tests. The DBQs in the practice test seemed to be harder than on the actual test. The one fault I found with the book was that the practice test questions were almost direct quotations from the review text, which didn't exactly help me. Over all the book was a great. The review section was wonderful, and covered some material my book left out. This book excellent, I would recommend it to anyyone !
Rating: Summary: Greatest Book EVER! Review: I took the AP US His test last year as a junior and scored a 4 on the test. I owe it greatly to this book. The way the book is set up is reall productive. It gives you 6 real AP tests (one at a time of course). After each test, they explain to what the answer was as well as the wrong answers. The book also tells you how to score your answers like the real test. i loved the way the book was set up and arranged.
Rating: Summary: covers everything on the test, great practice tests Review: I took the AP US History exam in May 1999 and this book was great. The review was succinct but still covered all the important points. The practice tests, though, were the real help. The questions were nearly identical to those on the test and really helped refresh my memory on a lot of the material that had been covered early in the year. I definitely recommend it!
Rating: Summary: best review for AP U.S. History Review: REA's review section was very comprehensive and still very easy to read. I ignored my textbook and most of my class notes when I started reviewing for the AP exam and the SAT II's, and this book covered EVERYTHING I encountered on both tests. There are SIX practice exams, and lots of essay topics for practice. There are a couple typos and mistakes in the answer key, but much less than the review books by Kaplan and Princeton Review usually have. Concerns about bad photocopies of maps are minimal. So you can't answer one question, no big deal. The answer key provides thorough explanations for the answers so that you're able to understand why the other possibilities are incorrect. Even if you don't need the course review section, the practice tests and the explanations for answers are an invaluable resource for knowing how to do well on the exam. I got a 5 on the AP exam and a 770 on the SAT II subject test, thanks to this book. Amazon has a great price and if you want to score well, this book completely trashes all of its competitors.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars for the score of 5!!! Review: This book definately helped me for the May 2000 exam. It had the compressed version of all the text. It discussed the important topics that were divided into three parts: Politics, Economic, and Social & Culture. The book has 6 tests that were a good practice , and each question has an explanation. The DBQs are also included with sample essays. It is a great method of review. I got the book about 3-4 weeks before the test date and just read and took the tests. I relied on this book and my basic knowledge of history. It is a great test prep book. Cons: there are some typos in the answer key. but if youre sharp youll pick them up and thatll show that you know your stuff!! Another con is that the book doesnt have that many techniques, but the pros outweigh the cons. If it wasnt for this test prep, i wouldnt have gotten a 5 on the exam.
Rating: Summary: Got a 5 with REA Review: This book enabled me to succeed on my AP, taken last year. In a panicked state, I purchased it a week or two prior to the dreaded May showdown--and read through it voraciously. Sometimes I had to pinch myself to focus through its review, but the odd facts and details (while not always necessary) easily served to spice up my essays and DBQ . . . and although I didn't have time to more than think about the essay questions or sample DBQ's in the book, the multiple choice section really aided me. The six tests calmed my fears (probably their best use) and oscillate in difficulty from harder-than-AP to AP-level questions. It was great in that I could stop and start with them at anytime; I could practice during lunches, car rides, etc. Thanks to this book, and some independent review, I got a 5 on my AP US exam.
Rating: Summary: give yourself some time Review: this book was good but i think you need a few weeks to effectively use it the way you are meant to. it would be ideal to take 3 of the practice tests, then review through all or any topics you need in the basic review, and then take the next 3 test and lastely review any things that need touching up. just taking the tests may leave some gaps here and there but its still a good book and the questions are ok compared to the ap test.
Rating: Summary: A comprehensive and thorough book worth your time and money! Review: When studying for the AP US History Exam of May 2000, I found it impossible to study off of my extensive in-class notes with only two weeks left before the test. That's when I finally purchased this review book that our history teacher had been recommending since the beginning of the school year. I didn't feel like I had a lot of hope for the test because I hadn't retained a lot of the information during the year, but this book covered just enough without over-emphasizing and wasting time. The organization allowed me to digest most of the information in the book, including small details. I would recommend going through with a highlighter over important parts you feel you may be likely to forget and later going back and reviewing to reemphasize. It seems like a lot of reading and studying, but it is possible to complete within a weeks time if you put in the effort. As further proof of how well this book prepped me, I received a 5 on my exam.
