Summary: I was up till 12:30 finishing this book - I couldn't stop
Review: I couldn't put this book down. From the minute that I learned the nature of the hideous experiments that were being performed on the children taken to Bolvangar I didn't stop reading for a second. But the entire book is engaging. Lyra's life in Jordan to her accidental-on-purpose discovery of Dust and the city in the "Roarer", through her time with Mrs. Coulter and her escape, and all the way up north, the book and the world in which it takes place were entirely believable. To me, the most fascinating and wonderful thing about Lyra's world is the dæmons. Ever since I read this book, I have longed for my own personal animal soul. I can't wait to read the sequel. The Golden Compass is a wonderful book which will remain on my bookshelf and in my heart for all time. I would also add that I have never been the world's biggest fan of fantasy novels, but this book drew me in anyway. Anyone who reads should read this book.

Summary: A classic- children's books should be appreciated by all
Review: We read this under the title Northern Lights, a reference to the Arctic Circle wehre so much of this amazing adventure takes place.

It is an extraordinary book. The world of daemons, of armoured bears and of a child trying to make sense of it all was one I and my 9 year old daughter found mesmerising. Yes, I had to explain the difficult words and ideas at times, but she was always tugging for the next page to be turned. I certainly wouldn't let her read it

Summary: Science Fantasy at it's best.
Review: Draws you in like an innocent inquiring child and holds you there, captive. I haven't read anything so magical since I was a kid and read Wrinkle in Time.....

Summary: Another Existance
Review: After reading this book I can exist in Lyra's world. Pullman created somewhere that is more real (and more apealing) than reality could ever be. Reading this was like following Alice down the rabbit hole only with a purpose, or walking through the wardrobe into the world of Narnia in order to fulfill a destiny. Not cluttered by any messy romances that were never meant to be, and chock full of the greatest adventures anyone could possibly imagine. Let youself be trapped and thrown headlong into this explosive fantasy.

With Pantalaimon her Daemon at her side she encounters witches, armored bears, evil scientists and many other characters that bring this wonderfull story to life, journeying north with the aid of friends and her alethiometer trying to fullfill her lifelong destiny!

Summary: The Golden Compass was a fun, magical, seat-gripping story.
Review: My teacher first told me about the Gold Compass...after starting it, I couldn't put it down...I loved it!!! I immediately went back out to the store, and bought the sequel, The Subtle Knife...Lyra, and her daemon were great!!! I can't get over the descriptive words...they're the kind you just like to roll around on your tongue and try here and there in a sentence. Philip Pullman is a sensational author!!!

Summary: Excellent young-adult fantasy novel; for both boys and girls
Review: Philip Pullman has crafted a novel of astonishing brilliance, combining elements of high fantasy and leading-edge scientific speculation into the nature of the universe. The scientific research leads us to investigate the origins of intelligence and even the universe itself. That these topics could be dealt with so well in a novel clearly directed at the adolescent market verges on the miraculous.

This book will rank with _A Wrinkle in Time_ by Madeline L'Engle and C. S. Lewis' _Narnia_ stories in years to come. It is that good.

Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!
Review: This outstanding piece of literature will always be on by bookshelf. Wheather your talking about Lyra's adventures at her beloved Oxford College, or her terrifiying trip to Bolvangar, you will enjoy every minute of this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Lose yourself from the beginning pages of this novel.
Review: Pullman's one-of-a-kind imagination is very hard at work in this novel. The colorful charchters, and vivid descriptions allow you to get lost in the novel and finish it before you realize it. I can't wait for the third novel in the series so I can meet up with Lyra and her many friends (and enemies) once again. Just like Pullman's "Ruby in the Smoke," "The Golden Compass" will have you on the edge of your seat until the last page.

Summary: This book was full of excitement and adventure!
Review: The title tells you something, but it doesn't tell you everything. I loved this book, just because of the way the author leaves you satisfied, yet hanging. It's sequel was great too! PLEASE, get the third book out. I NEED to read it!
