Rating: Summary: Interesting, vibrant characters and a really original theme Review: My teenage (14) daughter brought this book to me; the characters are so real and well developed that you care a great deal about their progress and the final result with their futures. If this author can interest a 14 year old in his literature, then more power to him!!! She's dying for the sequel and so am I!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: Philip Pullman is a brilliant writer. From his amazing characters to his powerful scenes, this is the greatest book I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Book of a Lifetime Review: The Golden Compass is the book of a lifetime. It's the absolute best book I have ever read. It's a combination fantasy, science fiction, mystery, realistic fiction, and so much more. I dislike fantasy and science fiction, but Mr. Pullman disguised that all into this book. I know that I'm eagerly waiting for the trilogy to finish up, or I'll have to go track down the author and beg him to tell me how this ends.
Rating: Summary: Amazingly beautiful! Review: The Golden Compass takes readers to another world, a world they never want to leave. I was compleatly overwealmed with how complicated and startlingly realistic the setting was. The characters where very deep and real, so much that I felt their pain and joy. I am dying to read the others in the series.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books I have ever Read Review: I think The Golden Compass is really great. I didn't understand anything in the beginning but as I continued to read the book it really grabbed me. I would recommend it to people who like adventure. I think it is a great book for all ages.
Rating: Summary: MAGICAL Review: It is a delicious book for youngers and adults, I'm 33 and I read it from the begningn to the end in less than week...I would like to be like that adventurer girl.
Rating: Summary: this book rules Review: I'm a 13 year old. I got this book for Christmas, and didn't want to read it. I was a big fan of Stephan king at the time, and wasn't interested in a new type of book. I dropped Stephen King like a bad habit after reading the first chapter of this book. I like this genre of books much better than the bloody scary type. I reccomend this book to anyone who would like something that didn't get boring at any time, and likes to imagine a whole new world, a convincing world, full of all kinds of stuff to keep us going. Pullman is a genius, and as soon as I'm done typing this review, I am ordering book 2.
Rating: Summary: The BEST book I've ever read! Review: The Golden Compass is the BEST, BEST, BEST book I've ever read. If I was only allowed to read one book in all my life, this would be it. Any one 9 and up should NOT miss this book. When I first got it I thought, "Gee, this is pretty long." But now I wish that Mr. Pullman had written more pages to this wonderful book about Lyra,Iorek, Mr. Scoresby, Pan, and all her other friends!
Rating: Summary: DA BESTEREST BOOK IN DA WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Lyra Belaqua (Silvertongue) and Pan, her dæmon, go on a trip to Bolvangar, in the FAR north to save her friend, Roger, from the Gobblers, or children snatchers. If Isaid more, I would give the best parts away, so I will leave you to buy/read the book yourself! Although it is a LONG book, it is well worth it, and I was very sorry when it had to end, but look forward to the other 2 books! Philip Pullman has really captured the eloquence of sci-fi and fantasy books together. I give my compliments to the chef...er...author!
Rating: Summary: This book is the best it gets. Review: This book is extremely incredible. I can tell you, because I read a lot. Its basically about a girl named Lyra that lives in another world. The story starts at Jordan College. This book is completey outstanding. It is one of my favorite books, and it is so good that you'll wish it would go on forever. Once I got closer to the end, I couldn't decide whether to stay up all night and finish it, or to read it less frequently so I could save it. This is a really good book, and you have to read it. It is very good. You'll love it.
