Summary: A Book for Adults Too!
Review: I notice there a lot of reviews of this book from children - that's great but I think if classifying it as "Children's Literature" means that some adults will miss it that'd be a real shame. Of course its a fantastic adventure but its also got a lot to say about the soul, and religion and the relationships between adults and children. I'm no great fantasy fan - I liked Lord of The Rings as a teenager and a touch of Clive Barker but found little else in the fantasy genre that wasn't derivative and poorly written. This is up there with the greats a Fantasy for everyone - perhaps the best, most all encompassing, most profound and most imaginative epic fantasy story since Lord of The Rings. You must read it.

Summary: Wow!
Review: This book was very good. It's intricate plot and twists has landed the book in my top 5. I must admit that I thought this book would be for kids at first because the heroine, Lyra, was only about 10. Boy, was I ever wrong. I read the sequal, The Subtle Knife, and I thought that was very good as well.

Summary: This was the most suspenseful book I've ever read!!!
Review: I gave The Golden Compass 5 stars because it was very descriptive, it pulled me in, there was SO much suspense, and it was a great fantasy!! It was the most exciting and suspenseful book I've ever read!! It's about a girl named Lyra who has a daemon named Pantalaimon. (A daemon is an animal who everyone in her world is born with.) Children in her town are getting captured by the Gobblers, including her friend Roger. (The Gobblers are people who kidnap children to use in experiments.) As soon as Lord Asriel hands her an alethiometer, (an alethiometer is sort of like a compass.) she is in danger. Lyra heads North to find Roger and to figure out what it is that the Gobblers do to the children. She runs into many people and animals along the way and learns more about herself. Lyra finally finds the Gobblers and Roger and sets all the children free. She climbs into a balloon with her friends and they travel to another place. The balloon crashes and she is captured by the polar bear king. There is a fight for the throne and for her. Later, she find Lord Asriel in the cellar. Lord Asriel captures Roger and runs away. Will Lyra rescue Roger? What is Lord Asriel doing with Roger? What will happen in the end? To find out, READ THIS BOOK!! If you love books with much suspense and action, you will love this book!! I highly recommend it!!

Summary: I Absoulutly Loved It!
Review: 'The Golden Compass' was by far the most fantasic book I've ever read! I just couldn't put it down! I think that the idea of those litte creatures (called daemons)that change forms depending on their human owner's mood is great! This is a perfect example of Philip Pullman's best work. I can't wait to read the sequal!

Summary: It is the best book I have ever read
Review: I am 11 years old and I have read The Golden Compass. I am very picky about books, and this book is definitely the best book I have read yet. I recommend this book to anyone and all ages. When I read Phillip Pullman books, I never can put them down.I recommend The Golden Compass to everyone I know, and don't. The Golden Compass is a mixture of fantasy, mystery, and adventure. You will never think of Dust the same way again. P.S.After you're done with the Golden Compass, read The Subtle Knife!

Summary: THE WORST BOOK EVER
Review: This book is packaged as a "trilogy", but is really only 1/3 of one book. I resent the packaging of an unfinished work as a whole book - and consider it dishonest on the part of author and publisher. I can't remember another book billed as a part of a trilogy that seemed less complete. When Pullman finishes the "trilogy", I'll gladly read all three parts of the one completed book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: The Golden Compas is so amazingly and completely great. I would recommend it to any fantasy reader. The plot is fast and gripping and it is told expertly. This book compares with the top. I would not be surprised if this becomes a classic. GET THIS BOOK!!!
