Summary: Better Than Lewis & Morcock...Maybe better than Tolkien!
Review: I read this book at the recommendation of a friend, and I was surprised to see the book was considered a children's book I'm not sure why this book has been pigeon holed as a 'kid's' book...the reading level may be lower than an 'adult' book, but the concepts, characters, plots, and action are on the highest order, and more complex and provoking than most of the fantasy on the market. I didn't want this book to end. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Review: THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!! I LIKE LYRA, BECAUSE SHE'S SO BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS. AFTER I READ THIS BOOK I WANTED TO KNOW ALL THE CHARACTERS!(EXCEPT FOR THE GOBBLERS AND MRS.COUTLER.) NOW I WANT A DAEMON OF MY OWN, JUST LIKE PANTAMAILON! I ESPECIALLY LIKED LYRA, PANTAMAILON, ALL THE DAEMONS, (EXCEPT FOR MRS. COUTLER'S GOLDEN MONKEY,) IOREK, AND SERAFINA PEKKALA, THE WITCH. I ALSO LIKED MA COSTA AND THE GYPTYANS. THIS BOOK IS THE BEST BOOK! IF YOU HAVN'T READ IT YOU HAVE TO. IT IS SO GOOD!!!!! I WISH I HAD A SYMBOL READER OF MY OWN. AT THE BEGGINING I THOUGHT I LIKED LORD ASRIEL, BUT NOW I'VE CHANGED MY MIND. IT'S REALLY A SUPRISE WHEN SHE FINDS OUT THAT HER PARENTS ARE LORD ASRIEL AND MRS.COUTLER, THE BAD GUY. IT WAS REALLY EXCITING WHEN SHE IS CAUGHT IN THE GOBBLERS STATION. IT IS SAD WHEN THEY SEE TONY MAKARIOS WITHOUT HIS DAEMON. I HATE THE GOBBLERS. I THINK WHAT THEY'RE DOING TO KIDS IS WRONG. THE GOBBLERS ARE ALSO LYING. YOUR DAEMON IS KIND OF A THING THAT'S CONNECTED TO YOU, IT WATCHES YOU AND YOU SHARE IT'S FEELINGS. IT'S KIND OF LIKE A PET, BUT CONNECTED. SEE, THERE'S THIS KIND OF DUST CALLED DUST. IT'S SPECIAL DUST THAT DOESN'T COME FROM LYRA'S WORLD. DUST IS USUALLY ATTRACTED TO ADULTS, AND SOMETIMED KIDS. SEE, WHEN YOU'RE A KID YOUR DAEMON CAN CHANGE HIS SHAPE. WHEN YOU'RE 13 YOUR DAEMON HAS TO STAY IN ONE ANIMAL FORM. DUST SEEMS TO BE ATTRACTED TO PEOPLE 13 AND OVER. THE GOBBLERS WANT TO SEE THE WORLD THAT DUST COMES FROM, THE AUORA. THEY ALSO WANT DUST TO BE NOT ATTRACTED TO KIDS. THAT'S WHY THE GOBBLERS ARE CUTTING AWAY PEOPLES DAEMONS, AND WHEN PEOPLES DAEMONS ARE CUT AWAY, THE PERSON IS ALMOST HALF LIVING AND HALF DEAD. IT'S NOT FULLY DEAD YET, BUT IT ISN'T REALLY ALIVE EITHER, AND IT KEEPS ASKING FOR IT'S DAEMON. WHEN THAT HAPPENED TO TONY MAKARIOS LYRA TRYED TO HELP HIM BUT AFTER A WHILE HE DIED. MOST OF THIS BOOK IS EXCITING AND DANGEORUS, SOME OF IT'S SAD, AND SOME IS FUNNY AND HAPPY. THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS I LIKED THIS BOOK, BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS DIFFERANT. I'M STOPPING NOW. I DON'T WANT TO TELL YOU THE WHOLE STORY BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO READ IT YOURSELF.P.S. DAEMONS AND THINGS LIKE THAT MAY NOT SOUND FAMILIAR TO YOU, BECAUSE THIS BOOK IS TAKEN PLACE IN ANOTHER WORLD. THERE ARE THREE WORLDS:LYRA'S WORD, OUR WORLD, AND THE AUORA WORLD. IN THE SECOND BOOK, THE SUBTLE KNIFE, IT'S ABOUT A BOY WHO LIVES IN OUR WOLD BUT GOES INTO THE AUORA WORLD AND FINDS LYRA. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE THIRD BOOK!!!!!

Review: Exciting, thrilling and a brilliant read. One of the best series of books I have ever read. Nearly missed my train stop, I was so involved. Can't wait for the third book to come out. Why do we have to wait so long for the sequels. Any Idea when the next one is due! - Philip Please Hurry!!

Summary: Phillip Pullman is a freak of nature.
Review: I am a new member of EFAAAL, a group of reviewers which is growing quickly. Along with a lot of other people, I, Calandra Garton, believe this book does not deserve to be published. Sorry, but that's just my thought. And I also agree with the readers from San Jose and Mexico City. I support you two.

Summary: It has some good features.
Review: Really, it does. The Golden Compass has kept my fireplace going for an hour and a half. I am watching it burn as I write this review. It was quite easy to get it going: I just sprinkled some holy water on it and it started burning. So far, most of the people in EFAAAL(the Emerald Forest Association Against Awful Literature) have done the same. And the smoke from this book has a unique, rotten-like stench. All of this is happening for a reason: "The Golden Compass" isn't good for anything else! It's a really bad book, and a lot of people are afraid to say so. Don't be afraid to voice your complaint. Join EFAAAL in our struggle to alert the world to the presence of bad literature. To prove you really want to join us, write your review of "The Golden Compass" with your e-mail adress written as well, and simply state at the end of your review: "I would like to join EFAAAL." Review: My name is William Verdugo, and I am a member of the Emerald Forest Association Against Awful Literature(also called EFAAAL). You might have heard of us. You might also know that we have condemned this book as "pathetic." We also advise you against buying it. I am a more passive reviewer than my counterparts. Still, I must admit that "The Golden Compass" is pretty bad. I am a more moderate member, so I gave this book a two-star rating. By doing this I'm being pretty generous. However, I have a request for all of you people out there: Open your eyes, dangit! Open your eyes and you will see the unfair things that are written in this book.

Summary: Adventures you will never to forget!
Review: I read this book right when it came out. I was only in 6th grade, and to this day I still haven't read another book with as much imagination as Philip Pullman put into this one. Lyra and her golden compass are an inseperable duo (though some do want to separate them) that travels on adventure after adventure with polar bears and witches. The perfect touch were their daemons who put an extra bit of imagination into the book and makes you wish you had a daemon of your own. This is a great book for all ages!

Summary: A Wonderful Tale for Every Age
Review: I read The Golden Compass upon the recommendation of my professor at the University I attend. I was surprised that a man of such intellectual capacity would be advising to read a children's story. After completing The Golden Compass in just two days time I was now only astonished by my own arrogance. The wonderful adventures and discoveries of Lyra Belacqua can be understood and interpreted on multiple levels. I highly recommend this well-spun tale to people of all ages!
