Rating: Summary: This Book is Grrrrrrrreat! Review: This book is an exquisite example of good litature. I've read it numerous times, but I hate it when some of the people that are in my class at school read the same books as me, but I woudn't care if any of you that are wasting your time on my review read this book, I recomend it. It is a good story in a totally different world, I like books like that. I have also read books by Brian Jaques, Carol Matas, T.A. Barron, Gary Paulson, JRR Tolkein, and I love books by Madeliene L'Enlge. Thanks for wasting your time on my review!
Rating: Summary: It grows on you Review: I have to admit the first time I read this book I hated it. Then, much later, I read it again out of boredom. It seemed more interesting. I think I've read it four or five times now, and it's just amazing. There's so many levels to it (like the levels of the alethiometer, perhaps?) and the world it describes is perfectly and wholly envisioned.
Rating: Summary: I have a LOT of books, and this one is the mantle piece! Review: The Golden Compass is by far one of the best books I have ever had the good fortune to ever read! It creats a shimmering of world shapeshifting deamons, talking polar bears, and wonderfully spoken characters all in the glow of the Northern Lights.
Rating: Summary: Best book EVER!!!! Review: All I can say is WOW!!! I am an avid reader, and this is still the best book I've ever read. The sequel, The Subtle Knife, is just as good, if not better. It is torture waiting for the third book!!! Pullman lets you get to know Lyra and Pan, not just read about them! Once you start, you can't put it down! A must read for people of all ages!:)
Rating: Summary: This book is outstanding!! Review: The Golden Compass is an extraordinary book. Unlike other books, this one takes place in a futuristic, alternate world. It's suspenseful, mysterious, yet intriguing with characters such as Lyra who's a perceptive girl, and Lord Asriel who's an authoritative man. The Golden Compass has events such as a planned poisoning, a lord that took a journey to the North, and scenes that have to do with an Alethiometer and learning to use one. On their journey, they meet a special bear, run into some witches, rescue Lyra's friend, Roger, and then Lyra meets up with her lost father. I think this book was great and everyone should try to read this book at least once. I liked this book because it was unpredictable and astounding. You never really know what's going to happen next when you're reading it. This book is impressing and the author was very imaginative when writing The Golden Compass.
Rating: Summary: An interesting fantasy for all ages. Review: I've read this book at least five times, I've also read the second book in the series and am anxiously awaiting the third book. I enjoyed this book, because the characters were so likable. The idea of another world so much like ours is also fascinating. Lyra is a wonderful character. She and her daemon go through so much and still seem to come out on top. Lyra is so compelling, that no matter where she goes, she makes new friends who are willing to lay down their lives for her. All in all, the book was a most fascinating diversion.
Rating: Summary: I am desperately waiting to read the second! Review: I am a grown-up, YES a grown-up. A librarian for an elementary school, and I have been researching new books for a huge book order. When The Golden Compass came across my desk I just thought I'd glance through it---surprise I didn't stop reading for 2 days! What a wild ride! What adventure! What wonderful writing! Mr. Pullman is a truly miraculous writer. He stays out of the way so YOU can be right there. Right inside this wonderful swiftly moving vivid thrilling dangerous world with Lyra. Lyra. To create an adventure with a girl as the heroine, and not a sappy little love struck girl but a GIRL a GIRL with a capital G. An amazon of a little girl...well. I am bowled over and have been out hunting the bookstores for the second book in the series. Guess what, the only option was to order it on-line as all the Phillip Pullman books seem to have been sold! Not surprising.
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: I was told to get this book by a kid. This book is as good as harry potter, I think. I think the idea of daemon is so well thought of I don't think that any other author couldn't have come up with a better idea. I love the thought of a bridge to anoter world. I'll get the subtle knife next.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!! Review: This book was one of the best i have ever read, and believe me, I have read a great deal of scifi books and this ranks in the top five! Great characters, a richly laden setting, and original beyond belief. Another great quality of this book is that it is very complicated and must be read over and over. A must-read for any scifi lover/Reader. I cannot wait the read The Subtle Knife!
Rating: Summary: I WISH I COULD RATE THIS BOOK 100000 STARS Review: This is a wonderful book for all ages. If you love fantasy, talking animals, excitemant, adventour, and mystory this is the book for you!
