Review: I haven't finished the book yet but so far I can hardly put itdown. I reccomend this book for anyone looking for a good read. Someof the words can get a little chalenging for young readers but it's still a great book. The first chapter is hard to get through, I didn't really pay attention but after the first 60 or so pages the book in GREAT! Some of the articles you will see about the book are not true. The book is not discusting (At least not before the 203 page). The book is a classic and should be read in schools nationwide. When I finish the book I will write again as the same name from the same place. Catch ya later! THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC, GREAT, WONDERFUL, STUPENDOUS, AND THRILLING ALL IN ONE!

Review: Phillip Pullman is a genius. He has created a magical world based on several plateaus, combining innocence, suspence, horror and fortitude. I couldn't put it down - not only a read for children but a definate one for adults.

Summary: This is THE BEST children's trilogy I have ever read!
Review: One of the most imaginitive and suspensefull books I have ever read, this book (and the two to follow) are GUARANTEED to be loved and treasured by the young AND old. The main character, Lyra, may be a girl, but boys will also anticipate each adventure she stumbles into. In her world, all the people have a tangible "soul", or familiar, which is always an animal, and can change form. If severed from their familiar, they will die. She goes in search of all the townschildren that keep disappearing, and no one seems to care about since they are all orphans. Unknowingly, the fate of her whole world (and as she finds out later, many others) lies in her hands. This whole series will keep you riveted and drooling while waiting for the next tome to be released.

Review: I absolutely hate science fiction but love fantasy, and the Golden Compass is one of my favorite books of all time. The Subtle Knife (the sequel) was also great, and I am anticipating the third book in this series.

Summary: THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ!
Review: This book was amazing. Pullman is the best author that i have ever heard of. The book intertwines a multitude of mystery, fantasy, and adventure that I have never felt before. Pullman twists the plot tighter and tighter until the incredible climax. Also, you have the greatest fun reading it while the author gives you hints of foreshadowning to what will happen or who is doing what. All along you are entertained by the funny and relaxed heroine while you encounter tales of mystery that point you to the north, to a place called Svalbard where armored bears live and fight, tales of Dust and other mysterious things. Do not miss Lyra and her fun Avatar Pantalaimon in this classic tale that I will never forget.P.S.- don't forget to read the second book The Subtle Knife it is just as good and almost better

Summary: Pullman's work is absolutely stunning...
Review: Let me get this off my chest before I start this reivew. I hate Science Fiction and I hate Fantasy. There, I said it, it's over with. This book is like no concrete object I've ever held in my owntwo hands. It radiates with a power I can't name. I pick up this book and my palms begin to sweat. Lyra is a wild girl that runs free on the campus of Jordan Collage. She has no worries, until she is thrown into the cold world of mystery and betrail. Alone in a world of witches and armored bears, she (and I will quote the back of the book) "is destined to win, or lose in this more than mortal battle." After you read this book read the sequal "The Subtle Knife". Only in these books can you be in a world that is yours... or is it? You can say, oh, I know where that place is, but it is compleatly surreal. Nothing on this earth is like the places in this book, but they go by the same name. Everything is so familler, yet compleatly alien to what we know in this world of ours. Read this book.

Summary: Fantastic peice of fiction.
Review: I don't know how many people will read this review, there are over 300 reviews of this book on the list at the time I'm posteing this review, but hey, maybe one person will read and appreciate my words. My brother (who is 10) read this book and loved it, absolutly loved it. However I was slightly skeptical going into it, afraid that it was too "kiddyish" for my tastes. I'm happy to say that this book changed my mind, which is no easy task... I went into the book not liking it, and by the end I loved it... Not many books can do that for me. It is as fine a peice of fiction as any I've read, the story is thourghouly devoloped (however incomplete) and totaly realized.
I think what alot of people forget is that it's *fiction*, I read one review of The Subtle Knife (which, by the way, I liked *even better* than The Golden Compass) that condemned it as "devil worship", now I can only look at that review and laugh to myself. Yes, Pullman did make very deffinite statements about god and religion but it's a peice of *FICTION*, it's *NOT REAL*, and his statements can hardly be construed as devil worship. If you're offended by it, then don't read it... but don't then condemn other people for reading it and enjoying it... I think most people can accept this book as a work of fantasy and not reality. I cannot make you read this book, but I can highly recommend it, like I said before, it changed my opinion of it, simply by being as good as it is. It is *strikeingly* original, I've never read anything quite like it. I hold this series in the same respect as Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, and Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. All three are very original works of *art*, I can't recommend Pullman's series (nor the others for that matter) enough.P>S> I'm always up for a good book discussion.

Summary: Gosh...How digusting can you get?
Review: If you don't like wierd books, I wouldn't reccomend this, but if you like strange and disgusting books, go ahead and read it! At the beginning, this book was really good, and I would have given it at least 4 stars (which is the only reason I didn't give it 2 now), but it turned out to be very disgusting and disappointing. However, it was very interesting, and you felt like you couldn't stop reading, which I was actually ashamed of because it was so disgusting and made you feel sick. Well, if you're really into fantasy, you might like this book, as other reviewers have shown, but if you're sensitive and don't like disgusing things, DO NOT read this book!

Summary: Perfect...
Review: I've read some bad books, and I've read some very good books. But, this is by far the best series I have ever read. I have read books/series by such authors by Jordan, Tolkein, Goodkind, Brooks, and Card. But now everything else seems to lack something that the 2 of these books contain. I cant name it but it is definatly here. Overall... A great find for a reader of any age. Most CErtainly well more than 5 measly stars.
