Summary: Impossible to put down! A must read for all fantasy lovers!
Review: I love reading, especially fantasy books-and as much as I used to think I would never say this, there is some competition here for Harry Potter! This is a richly written wonderful book that kept me turning pages far into the night. The book starts you off playing on the roof tops of Jordan College with Roger and Lyra, intriuged with the bewitching Mrs. Coulter, fearing for your life at bolvangar with the other children, and filled with wonder at the North and the Northern lights. If you are an open-minded fantasy lover, then I highly suggest this book to you. Its one that you wont ever forget!

Summary: A TRUE WORK OF LITERARY ART!
Review: Three words: read this book. For the sake of readers everywhere, make the world a better and more educated place by reading this fantastic work of art. It has everything a true book lover would want. So run as fast as you can to the library or bookstore and get this book. I dare say that it is nearly as good as Harry Potter. Great job Mr. Pullman!

Summary: Interesting fantasy tale; some new ideas;
Review: This is a solid fantasy tale; not great but good. The tale is set in another version of England where magic works, students have familiar pets and a discovery is being made . .. a discovery that other worlds exist with a portal to such places near the North Pole.

The main character is a precocious girl with some magic powers, her familiar and a great deal of tenacity. Tale follows her in first escaping an evil lady from the city of London and then getting up to the North Pole, with her allies, to find not only her father but a group of missing children. Pay attention to the talking polar bears who wear armor and exist in a believable culture, if such creatures existed. This is one of the most interesting parts . .. the second part would be "the dust" so pay attention to that, too.

Summary: Why can't there be more than 5 stars?
Review: This book was extraordinarily wonderful. It was extremely vivid and descriptive, and I just couldn't put it down. I started reading this when I didn't have a book to read during school. Only about 10 pages into the book, I already couldn't put it down. While I was reading it, my mind was always like "No! Don't go there!" or "WHOA!" or I was happy or sad for the character. Pullman had written this book with an inmense deal of imagination.

I know the plot is disturbing for those who have religious backgrounds, so I don't think those people should read it. However for those who are looking for a book as well written as Harry Potter, read this book and the sequels, you'll really want to know what 'Dust' is.

Summary: Boring, Repetitive
Review: This book couldn't have bored me anymore than watching my printer spew out ink at an inch an hour. She gets captures... Escapes... Gets captured... Escaped... Ugh this book stunk.

Summary: Excellent!!
Review: Excellent, excellent, excellent - I cannot say that enough times. Somehow, before this book was popular and rarely ever heard of, I just sort of stumbled onto it, and I am so happy I did. I was never really into "fantasy" and was reluctant to start it at first, but I am incredibly happy I read it. Once you pick it up, it is impossible to put down. I've read the whole trilogy through three times, and each time I read them, they just seem to get better and better - if they can actually get any better than what they already are. I am an avid reader and I've read a lot of books in my time, and this is by far at the top of my list. I feel it is the best book out of the three in Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy, yet the other two are still excellently written. I loved them all, but was disappointed to read the last one, for I knew it all came to an end. So I started all over again! Least to say, I am absolutely in love with these books and have recommended them to a variety of people. Some of which have read them and agree with me that they are very good books. All I can say is to purchase this book; I promise it will not be a waste of your money. And if you read your copy through as many times as I do, you may need to buy another copy because it gets worn from so much use. Honestly, if you want a really good read that will make you keep coming back for more, get this one!
