Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Awsome Review: It Happened To NancyIt Happened to Nancy, by psychologist Dr. Beatrice Sparks is one of the best books I have read. It happened to Nancy deals with a teenager having to deal with AIDS after she was raped. Once I picked up the book and read a couple pages, I couldn't put the book down; I also loved her other book Go Ask Alice. Dr. Sparks picks diaries that make you feel as if you're in the diary. When I read her book I felt as if I had been there as this was all happening. Your emotions get into the book for example, when the doctor came into the room and told her 'Your mom isn't here to take you home; she's here so I can tell her and you together the you have AIDS', Pg. 75. And the way she describes Lews uncles cabin make you feel as if you are there. Beatrice's books are so real and they put a new perspective in you head. After reading one of her books, you take a look around, look at things from a different view, and open your mind to possibilities, but at the same time, they put logic behind your desitions.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Mini review Can't stop reading! Review: I am still reading It Happened to Nancy. It is one of the best novels I have read. It is a moving piece by Beatrice Sparks and I am sure I will read it again. As soon as I started it the characters moved me by their politeness and their courage and the plot grabbed me as a reader. The characters interested me in their daily lives. Nancy was so young. She had no idea what Collin was up to. In her mind she was in love. I am so glad that had not happened to me. I would have died! I would've had no way to tell my mom like she did. Although I would have called the cops as soon as it happened and I would have been more aware of what I was doing and been more aware of what I was getting myself into. On the back cover I don't think the author should have wrote that she ended up getting aids because that gives away too much of the story. She also used past tense for the writing and that gave me the hint that she had died. Another thing that reminds me of this book is; I went to church with my friend and they had a guest cop. For the lesson he told a story about some guys that are well over twenty that get online and get in the chat room of the "kids" section and they say they are fourteen or so. One incident was that this guy about 20 was on the net on the kid's section and found a girl to talk to they had talked online for a few months and she brought it up that he was so cool that she wanted to meet him. So she lied to her mom and said he was a friend from school and she was fine with it and he told her that his older brother would be picking her up, when really it was him and she didn't say anything cause she trusted him. She ended up be missing for a while and she had been raped. Now they have programs for the cops, which they go online and pretend they are little girls and get older men to admit that they were going to rape the girl. They have caught over fifty guys trying to rape young ladies. I thought that was very interesting. The book has the character Collin who is to rape Nancy and he moves onto Margie, who Nancy has nightmares about. Her mother is very understanding when she tells her although she is mad for her lying to her about Collin. From the rape she gets HIV and it lead to AIDS. She dies from that specific disease.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Very powerful Review: This book was amazing and equally as good as "Go Ask Alice". Again this is based on a real diary of a teenager that gets AIDS, it talks about how she gets into that situation, how she handles it and how she lives with it. This book made me cry like no other...except "Go Ask Alice", but yet again I could not put it down. Definately a must read, especially if you like realistic stories or stories based on reality.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A go getter! Review: This book is so sad its like you cant trust no one in the world the one person she did trust screwed her over. I thought he was the perfect gentlemen at the beginning bu he just totally changed but why would she crawl at his feet his isnt GOD she made herself look low she should had just left him alone he didnt want her she should have jus stayed with that fact instead of doing what she did but in a way they were both wrong on two different factors but i is still a go getter book
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A true story??? Review: The author of editorial review at the beginning of this page states that they themselves are unsure as to whether or not this is taken from an actual diary or written by Doctor Beatrice Sparks. They mention a couple of sloppy details like the time change being recorded wrong between Arizona and South Carolina etc. Being from Arizona myself, I thought that some of the details sounded slightly "off". And what about Margie Muller? Nancy states that she saw her walking with "Collin Eagle". It's strange that when the police began trying to track him down, she neglected to tell them such an important detail. So I can't believe this is an honest, true to life diary written by a girl whose name was changed to "Nancy". What I do believe is that Doctor Beatrice Sparks wrote this from some of her personal experience as a child\teen psychiatrist and that her heart was in the right place. Scare tactics are often effective and Nancy's story could very well happen to you or someone you know. This book, besides being entertaining, provides you with a lot of information about the AIDS virus and how it works and it shows you healthy, positive ways to deal with what is truly a devastating illness.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Amazing!!!! Review: It Happened to Nancy, is a true story based on the diary of a young girl's life. While obsessing over an older man, fourteen-year-old Nancy takes a turn for the worse. She mistakes true love for lust and the need of comfort. When her eighteen-year-old boyfriend Collin rapes her, she blames it on herself, thinking she led him to believing she wanted more. Collin infects Nancy with HIV, and she feels as though she has no one to talk to, so she confides her innermost feelings in her diary, which was then revised and edited by Dr. Beatrice Sparks. I don't feel as though Nancy's diary was made for a story, as much as it was made to give young adults, and even adults, an insight to life with AIDS. Nancy proves that it's not easy, but that it is also not impossible. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true stories, and is willing to really get to know Nancy. I felt as though this diary was best read when you try to put yourself in Nancy's position. This way you can get somewhat of an understanding of how she is feeling, and what she has to go through to survive.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Could it be you? Review: The book, It Happened to Nancy by Beatrice Sparks, is a great book that every young woman should read. This book is written in a form of a diary, which most girls can relate to. I think because of this format the reader is able to relate and become closer to the main character, Nancy. It covers material that isn't talked about everyday in school or at home. Every teenager should be aware of the issues and understand the consequences Nancy faces. Nancy was an average fourteen-year-old girl who was vulnerable to love and in a relationship with an older boy. When she first met Collin, an eighteen-year-old college man, she thought he was the man of her dreams, a gentleman who couldn't hurt a fly. Nancy records her feelings and romance in her diary in a way that will keep you reading. As the journal entries go on you find out Collin isn't who she thought he was. The romance begins to deteriorate and Collin becomes high-tempered. Finally, it is discovered that Collin wouldn't take "no" for an answer and raped her leaving her with the worst nightmare a girl could have. Not only was Nancy left with the burden of rape, but also with the horrific news that she was infected with HIV. The story of her life doesn't stop at the rape or at the news of having AIDS; instead Nancy continues to write in her diary of what AIDS is like and what it does to her body. Some of the things she explains are very graphic and show the true colors of the horrible disease. She asks questions and shows so much emotion that causes the readers to think themselves and imagine what it would be like to be Nancy. This book covers every aspect of rape and AIDS, something every adolescent should be aware of. Nancy is brutally honest and tells all in this book. It shows every young reader that anything can happen. Not only does this book point out that young girls can be taken advantage, but also shows the emotional and physical aspects of rape and HIV/AIDS. This book is an inspiration and a warning to all adolescents, especially girls.
