Rating: Summary: Pleased greatly!! Review: So called Snicket's writing is purely new and gives children an inspiring way in the field of reading. The carnivorous carnival is no exception to any other of Snickets writing. The presently miserable characters who star in the book are Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire who love to do things no ordinary kid would want to do and are hunted and made miserable by their devious uncle cousin guy Count Oloaf who does anything he can to steal The baudelaire fortune. Greatly anticipated by even myself this book was and recieves 5 stars prestigiously under reccomendation to anyone who adores abnormal but entertaining wriing and the odd philosophy that Snicket donates.
Rating: Summary: Tragedy Again Strikes.... Review: In the book, THE CARNIVOROUS CARNIVAL by LEMONY SNICKET is one of my favorite books of all time. This book only adds to the suspenso of the whole series when at the end...what??? You Actually thought I was going to give away the ending??? ...BR> Anyway, the last book left us hanging as Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire hopped into the trunk of the villanous Count Olaf. We begin the next tale as they all find themselves at the Caligari Carnival. Supposedly, Count Olaf is there to see a fortune teller who has told him where the Baudelaires are every time they escape. Intrigued, they follow the evil Count to the circus coach of MADAME LULU, whose slogan appears to be, "What you want to hear, guaranteed." Hmm...suspicious. Anyway, they find out this MADAME LULU is the head of this deserted carnival (did I mention it's in the middle of a desert??) and she needs more Freaks to have her Freak Show, the carnival's only attraction, up and running. Of course, the Baudelaires naively investigate by using the various disguises to get themselves hired as Freaks for the Freak show. Needless to say, the twists and turns in this book will suprise you, unless you read LEMONY SNICKET: THE UNAUTHORIZED AUTOBIOGRAPHY, which practically gave every secret of Count Olaf away (to the careful reader's trained eye, and any person who can read between the lines). Still, the book is fun and enjoyable, and is another delightful, excuse me, tragic, tale in the lives of the Baudelaire orphans.
Rating: Summary: I can't wait to read it! Review: I don't have this book yet, but I have no doubt it'll be great. It has a cool front cover and a cool fortuneteller picture...I have it in Photo Editor. And I hope you won't think this review is a waste of time!
Rating: Summary: sometimes the carnival is no fun at all.......... Review: Justin Pergolini Room 22I am a fifth grade student at Waldron Mercy Academy(JP).The book I am reviewing is THE CARNIVOUROUS CARNIVAL by LEMONY SNICKET.PLEASE RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.THIS REVIEW IS DANGOURUS AND MUST BE ERASED. You could not possibly want to hear the horrible events in this book...that is what Lemony Snicket whould say if he was typing this. Unlike Lemony Snicket this book is one of the best books I've ever read. Trouble has struck again for the Bualdeluares. Our story begins with the Bauldeluares in the trunk of Count Olafs long black car. The Bauldelaures are three orphans named Violet,Klaus, and Sunny whose parents died in a horrible fire. Count Olaf is a greedy man who has followed the Bauldelaures everywhere they go trying to steal the orphan's fortune and has faked his own death and blamed the poor Bauldelueres for the murder. The Bualdelueres have left their recent ''home'' at Hemlich Hospital, which I am sorry to say is no more, and found a small glimmer of light in its library of records............. The Bualdelaures arrive at Calarigi Carnival (which I am sorry to say is no more either) where they hear of a fortuneteller who is telling Olaf where the orphans are all the time. The Bauldelaures disguise themselves as freaks to get a job at the carnivals house of freaks. It's horrible there as the Bualdelares are treated harshly on stage. They are in even more danger when Count Olaf announces the next big attraction at the carnival:feeding some lions one freak a day that is randomly selected from a hat. But that night the Bualdelares find out a little secret about the fortuneteller... But I am afraid that tragedy strikes again for the Bauldelares and this dark road is very long indeed...........
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Review: Ok, this is the latest in the Unfortunate Events series (Book 9). I think it is of on the best. I love how Snicket is moving on with the series and does not always have the same plot. The first 5 books were quite similar, Baudelaires get new home, Olaf finds new home, tries to get the Baudelaires... etc. But in the recent books, it has gotten better. The stories are more connected to one another, and are more exciting to read. In the beginning of the book, the children are in the trunk of Olaf's car, without him knowing it. Then they disguise themselves and remain under Olaf's nose. Lions, meat eating ones, are involved (what good can come of that?)and then murder comes too (what's new?) There are more unfortunate events occur (duh), and they remian in peril again. I think it was one of the most suspenful. This is a definite buy for anyone who has liked any of the others. Yet, do the Baudelaires ever get a bit of luck? I mean I know the reason for the popularity is because of the negative side ( I mean who likes reading about people who always have the best thing in the world happen to them? fairy princesses get old fast) but one has to wonder how much we can take of these kids having bad luck.... and the predicabilty of this bad luck...Dont get me wrong I love these books. But how much more will the American Public take? We (the readers) are coming closer and closer to the finding out the meaning of the imfamous V.F.D and sadly, the end of the series. But who knows? Maybe it will be a good ending.
Rating: Summary: Hmmmm...... Review: If you are an avid reader of these books, you will certainly know that Lemony Snicket, or whoever this guy is, is definitely not your run-of-the-mill children's writer. No, not at all. In addition to writing a hit series, he has pulled pranks like filling up two pages with a couple hundred copies of the word "ever", or filling two pages with ink. Or how about his autobio that didn't really help readers understand anything about the now-puzzling series, but was just a series of nonsense? It may have been at that point, or maybe at book #4, when Olaf is "disguised" pitifuly as a female-but whenever it happened- this series has simply gone too far. Lets think back, just a little bit, to just about any book in the series. Olaf & a few of his troupe have put on disguises, chasing the Baualdaires to various places, fooling the parents, getting sooo close to one of the children, & then failing. Gee, wonder what the plot of this one is. Yeah, it could be worth the ten bucks, but the stuff at the end may be the only part worth reading. Otherwise, you have 200 pages of Snicket explaining what Sunny's babble means, magicaly understanable to Violet & Klaus, explaining what semi-complicating words mean, encouraging you to put the book down & run away from it, & inching the reader ever so closer to: the Snicket file, VFD, & maybe even the truth as to if the parents are alive. Tell ya' what, I'm tired of that chiding to the end, only to find out that , miserably, they are worse off than before. Tired of being teased, goaded to find out what the real answer to everything is. Yeah, I'll still read the series (you should, too), but the series needs an end, SOON. Lemony Snicket, or whoever he is, is truely a great author, but he's just wasting his time. Here's my idea that would please me: end the series in the next one, and then start a brand new saga!!! This is getting "monotonous," a word here which means: the constant reuse of the same plot....
Rating: Summary: A Really Good Book - TRUST ME Review: I am a huge lemony snicket fan. if u are u probably have alrady got this book. but even if you aren't you should still buy the book. lemony snicket makes it so good you can hardly put it down. it is much different from the rest of the books in the series. But theyre really good alredy. Also for the LS fans who ars dying for the 10th,thats called the slppery slope. also, expect to see a movie on the first book in 2003. the book is full of twists and turns. and, alexander, if you read this, I'll expect you to read the whole other 8 books first. in summmary, buy this book if you know whats good for you(and the other 8 as well).
Rating: Summary: Unfortunate Events with a "Russian accent" Review: #9 in Lemony Snicket's Unfortunate Series of Events, brings the reader to THE CARNIVOROUS CARNIVAL, a real stand-out in this entertaining and original series featuring the Baudelaire orphans and the ever-evil and conniving Count Olaf. THE CARNIVOROUS CARNIVAL picks up the trail of the orphans after their escape from the 8th book, THE HOSTILE HOSPITAL. They find themselves in the middle of nowhere, still searching for the meaning of VFD. In previous episodes they though it might stand for Village of Fowl Devotees among other things. Here it possibly means something else entirely. No doubt this is the thread that will take us readers through to the conclusion of the series. As always the back cover features a description of the "unnerving ingredients" the reader will encounter: a confusing map, an ambidextrous person, an unruly crowd, a wooden plank, and Chabo the Wolf Baby. The usual suspects make their appearance, including Count Olaf's girlfriend, Esme Squalor, who's only concerned with what's in and what's out, even in the world of side-show freaks and carnival trickery. Also starring are the two women with the white makeup and wigs, the man with a hook for an arm and a new character, Madame Lulu, a "Russian" fortune-teller and crystal-ball reader who is only trying to give the people what they want; even to the point of aiding and abetting Count Olaf's latest scheme. She adds lots of humor to the story. You'll have a lot of fun and laughs as you zip throught the Baudelaires' latest misadventures!
