Rating: Summary: READ IT!!!! Review: This is the best book ever! I stayed up all night reading it. It's about 3 kids. Violet, Klause, and Sunny. They are at the Carnival trying to figure out if one of there parents is alive. They face dangers, and are right under the cluthes of Count Olaf but Olaf doesn't relize it.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ!!! Review: This book was the best out of the other books so far. This particular book is mainly about the three Baudelaires having to disguise themselves this time so they can find out if one of their parents are alive and well. They meet 3 freaks, Madam Lulu, Count Olaf and his troupe, and a guy with pimples on his chin. By the way, you know the bald man in Count Olaf's troupe? Well he dies. Sorry, I just had to say that.(it is true) Back to the main subject. I loved this book!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Yet! Review: The ninth book in this series was extremely good, and answers some questions of fans of the Lemony Snicket series. A few of my questions about V.F.D. and the Quagmire triplets were answered, and I am pleased with the outcome of this book. Snicket has created another good fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Most exciting read since The Kingdoms & the Elves Review: My nieces are Snicket fans through and through. We've read every book. Most of them together when they visit. I have all 9 books on the shelf. This is a perfect series for girls of any age. Baby Sunny will get to you too. I dont know why it says ages 10 and up. I think 10 is almost too old to start reading these. Strange things happen that out of context seem violent but it isn't really.
Rating: Summary: I hate cliffhangers! Review: No doubt here... Daniel Handler (or Lemony Snicket, which is his pen name, which here means "the name he uses to disguise himself from his evil enemies while writing about the Baudelaire tragedy") has provided us with a superb book- not a five star book, though. According to me, a book that's about fifty pages longer than the average in the series should contain fifty pages' worth more story. But Mr. Snicket has only provided us with merely more descriptive accounts- which might be tiresome despite his amazing sense of humor. It really amazed me that Mr. Snicket still has what it takes to write a novel after the absolute flunk provided by "Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography" (and no, I'm not a nine-year old). The book carries on with Mr. Snicket's "long" tradition of good-tasting humor, irony and impressive use of vocabulary -you shouldn't expect Shakespearean use of the language here, though- while keeping the book simple enough for eight-year-olds. I would not like to tell you one bit of the story here (even though some other reviewers might have already or will spoil you the surprises) so... all I will tell you is that if you were disappointed after "...The Unauthorized Autobiography" you should definitely consider reading it. But, as Mr. Snicket always warns at the beginning of his writings... "Not for the faint of heart or mind". Dèja Vu! (You'll understand when you read the book). -E.S.L.
Rating: Summary: The Sad Book of 3 orphans and why I liked it Review: My Dad helped me read this book. Its really cool! It starts with 3 orphans named Violet, Klaus and Sunny who continue in a disasterous and sad adventure once again. First they get squished in the trunk of an evil crime maker, Count Olaf. They land at a mysterious carnival filled with man-eating lions, a fortune teller who knows almost everything, an archival library and some freaks. They find themselves hiding in disguises as a two headed freak and a half wolf baby. The situation in this book is about who is going to get eaten by lions, the importance of keeping a promise, and finding out the real meaning of the secret initials "V.F.D." I think the book is really awesome because the orphans find some freakish friends, a safe place, and another meaning for V.F.D. As the author says, With all due respect, Anonymous
Rating: Summary: Gets Better Every Time Review: With each unfortunate outing, the poor Baudelaire orphans get themselves in deeper trouble than they could possibly imagine. This time the ending will leave you literally hanging, with clues that reveal more about both V.F.D. and the childrens parents. In fact the only negative in this ninth part of the series is that you'll have to wait for the tenth book before you get any resolution. It's also interesting to note that each subsequent volume gets longer and longer, but I find myself reading them faster and faster. The mystery is starting to unravel!
Rating: Summary: READ THIS BOOK!!!! Review: i think i'm a snicketphile, i loved this book! Lemony Snicket starts out with the perfect setting and keeps the story intersting until the end where he leaves off with a heart-stopping finish. i read this book in one hour! of course i recommend it. If you have not read the books before i'm not sure if it will make sense to you
Rating: Summary: getting boring Review: I waited a long time for this book to come out and I even spent a few weeks rereading the rest of the series just so I could fully understand everything that would go on in the book and hopefully solve some of the mysteries. But I am sad to say that all that time I spent preparing for this book is hopelessly lost. I had my hopes up that Lemony Snicket might finaly be able to tie up some of the loose ends having to do with the Baudelaire parents, VFD, and Jacqes Snicket. Although this was a good book, I just don't think it was up to Lemony Snicket's standard. It seemed like there weren't enough major events or findings in the story to make it a good book (it gave me the impression that maybe this book was created as a transition from Book 8 to Book 10). I personaly, am getting bored with waiting to find out about the mysteries. Hopefully we will find out some more imformation in The Slipery Slope, or maybe Lemony Snicket won't be getting as many eager return readers.
Rating: Summary: Perfect Books Review: My 10 1/2 year old nephew was never into reading until someone recommended the Lemony Snicket series. I bought him the first 3 and it has changed his thinking about reading. He has now read them all and enjoyed everyone of them. I highly recommend these books to kids in this age group.
