Rating: Summary: THIS IS A DEFINITE READ Review: "One day you will weild the sword my son but it will not make you a warrior." This is from the book Mattimeo by Brian Jacques. If you don't like adventure, if you don't like action, if you like boring charecters, ........then don't read the book because Mattimeo is loaded with Adventure, action, and great and funny charecters. Mattimeo is about a young mouse named Mattimeo whose father, Matthis, is the Redwall Warrior and mattimeo has to grow up to become one. Through his life Mattime grows up just like his father ( a little michief maker) he always gets in to fights, trouble, and other things like that. Well one day he and some of the other young Animals from redwall get captured by a Cunning fox Slagar the Cruel and are put on a slave trial destined to a place called Malkris where they will work as slaves for the rest of their lives. The Animals at Redwall send out a search party. On their way to find their children they make some new friends with other animals whose Children have beeen taken by Slagar, Plus they meet up with some with some old friends. While they are gone a Crow named General Ironby attacks the Redwall Abbey. If you thought the plot sounded good, then try reading the book. I think the strengths were everything but one thing. The weaknesses are that one thing. I don't think that in each chapter there should be a different place each time. The style of the author was funny, so funny that sometimes it makes you laugh out loud; adventurous so that you feel like you're fighting in the battle, cliffhangers that just make you want to read on, and mystery. Other books in the Readwall series are, Martin the Warrior, Mossflower, Redwall, Perls of Lutra, The long Patrol, and of course Mattimeo. Will Mattimeo ever grow up to become a warrior and weild the sword of his father? To find out you must read the book.

Rating: Summary: Mattimeo Review: Mattimeo
Mattimeo takes place in Mossflower woods, the time is unknown. Redwall Abbey is located in the middle of Mossflower woods, built by peaceful woodlanders to find sanctuary from the harsh world outside. The peaceful woodlanders inside are mostly mice, but there is also an assortment of squirrels, otters, hares, moles, voles, hedgehogs, sparrows and a single badger. That all changes one day when Slagar the cruel and his vicious band of vermin come to Redwall. They have a plan to kidnap Mouse warrior Matthias' son, Mattimeo. The motive behind this is revealed in the Redwall. Mattimeo is the sequel to Redwall, so to fully understand it, you should read it first, though it is still enjoyable to read even if you didn't read the first. So Slagar and company sneak into Redwall pretending to be a traveling circus group. Slagar places sleeping drugs in everyone's drink, so soon everyone is asleep. They sneak off before anyone awakes. The next day at Redwall, everyone wakes up, not remembering much. They realize the kids are gone and send out a search party. The search party finds nothing and turns back to Redwall. Matthias, Jess Squirrel, and Basil Stag Hare find tracks and immediately set off to save the little ones. Slagar then revels that he plans to take the hostages and sell them as slave to a warlord with an underground kingdom. This book changes points of view from chapter to chapter. First are Matthias, then Mattimeo, then Slagar, and finally the woodlanders back at Redwall. Slagar treats the others brutality, but Mattimeo gets enraged and charges at him. He then swears a warrior's oath to slay Slagar. Then Slagar manages to trap Matthias and companions in a cave, and push a pile of rocks off a cliff, burying them. Right as they are about to run out of air, Shrews help them escape. Then they have to cross a river, where an entire army of archers stands on the other side, ready to shoot them down. The people back at Redwall send out the Sparrows to aid Matthias. When Matthias tries to cross the river, he and his army are torn to pieces. They are about to die when the sparrows show up and kill the river rat archers. Then Matthias and his army have one last great battle to fight. They must attack the underground kingdom where Mattimeo is being held. Will his tiny force be able to overtake the mighty underground kingdom? Read the book and find out! The main conflict is Matthias trying to rescue his son and the solution is he succeeds and brings Mattimeo, and many other former slaves, back to Redwall. I highly recommend this and all the other Redwall books. There is a main plotline, but there are also many different stories branching off of the main plotline. I love the different points of view, and the classic medieval warfare. This will appeal to any fantasy fan, and anyone who loves a great book.
Rating: Summary: mattimeo Review: The story takes place in Mossflower, a forested area where the animals of Redwall live. It takes place in fantasy times. There are no humans, just animals roam the earth. The Main Characters: The main characters are Mattimeo who is the son of the great warrior mouse of Redwall, Matthias. Matthias is the great warrior of Redwall, whose son has been taken captive by Slagar the Cruel. Jess squirrel is an average Redwall inhabitant whose son has also been taken by Slagar. Orlando the Ax is a huge badger and his daughter Jube has been captured by Slagar. The last main character, Basil Stag Hair, is a veteran foot fighter rabbit that has an enormous appetite. This is a story of a child becoming a man. It is told through animals that act as humans and is made from the author's imaginative fantasy. It starts with the animals of Redwall having a peaceful celebration of the new season. During the feast an evil creature, Slagar the Cruel, sneaks in and spikes the animals' drinks with a sleeping potion and kidnapped all of the children of Redwall, including Mattimeo, son of the great warrior mouse Matthias. When they awaken, they send out a search party to find the children. Matthias, Jess, and Basil discover the trail of the missing children. On their way they met Orlando the Ax who was also looking for his daughter, Jube. They found out that Slagar was kidnapping children and taking them as slaves in a slave train to an unknown realm. All of the main characters eventually unite to the same hatred toward Slagar and his band of assassins and thugs. Brian Jacques writes in a unique style in his novels. He writes different plots that alternate through the story but eventually meet up at the end of the story. Constantly meeting new people, the main characters never reach a dull moment. Throughout the different parts of the novel, the setting had quite an impact on the story. In the middle ages, traveling great distances was quite a task. Traveling through vast forests, expanses of mountains, and crossing raging rivers added much more tension to the story and the odyssey the animals had to complete. The setting makes the novel much more exciting to read. All the animals in the story somewhat represent their traits. The hedgehogs and rabbits are mostly the kind abbey creatures, while the badgers like Orlando the Axe are fearsome warriors. And most certainly the Fox, Slagar, like the animal is a most cunning creature. This book clearly shows that vigilance and determination pays off. Matthias and company traveled many miles to reach their goal. This book can appeal to any age because it teaches great morals and is a spine-tingling and suspenseful action story. I really liked this book because of all its suspense. The author kept my attention constantly from beginning to end. Even when the author was just describing the scenery; he used descriptive words so that I could envision what the characters were going through. The theme in this book is clearly to stand up for others weaker than you. Mattimeo helped the weaker slaves make it through the unbearable journey. I give this book a ten out of ten. Outstanding! Take my word for it.
