Review: If you are a person who likes a book about old times when girls had to work at mills than you should read this book. Just to give you a clue of whats its about its about a girl named Lyddie whos familiy splits up and they have to work to pay off a dept that the father(who left them) owes.

Summary: One of the boringest books i ever read
Review: No offense to all of these people who really liked this book, but i have to say that it really put me to sleep. Yes i would say that it portrayed the move from an agrarian (farm) life to an industrial life very well yet i really felt Katherine Paterson could have done it in a more interesting manner. I felt i really couldn't relate to Lyddie at all and that her experiences were far too bland and predictable. If you want a book to put you to sleep this is the one!

Review: I thought this book was rather a bit plain and simple, but it had great content. The character's situations were believeable. But JOURNEY OF THE SPARROWS still wins first place in my heart. Females may connect to Lyddie more than males can.

Review: Lyddie is a very heart touching book. I t describes how a teenager has to go away from her family to earn money. Lyddie went from living in a very tiny home in the wilderness to going into the industrial life. She earns enough money to pay what they own,but what happens to the rest of the family? Read the book to find out.

Summary: A well written and thought provoking historical novel
Review: I thought Lyddie was a great book for girls. The female protagonist is strong willed and a very complex, interesting, historical character. She is restricted in many ways (the social/ conventional parameters of the time,economically, and as a young person), but she has a zest for life and a will to learn; these assets eventually free Lyddie to take controll of her destiny. She developes before the reader's eyes into a srong and independant young woman. Even though this is a historical novel, I think Lyddie's fears and hopes are universal and timeless. She helps many people throughout the book, and the best part comes in the end, when she desides to put herself first. I recomend this book for kids between 9-13.

Summary: A NOVEL ABOUT INDEPENDANCE
Review: I love this novel, the first in many Katherine Ptaerson books that I have read. Lyddie is independant, a hard worker, a truly remarkable character that steals your heart. (this book is also a great book to do a book report on, hey, i got top of my class and an A+!)
