Summary: Answers To Your Questions-Of Course Not!!
Review: The mysterious and twisted path of Lemony Snicket's life has led to this somewhat useful digression, meaning to go in another direction, to give us a sort of autobiography. Of course as to be
expected Mr. Snicket winds up leaving us with more questions than answers. There are more hints of the VFD as well as tidbits on Beatrice , Esme and a host of others. Very small tidbits I might add. Photos , drawings , a map or two as well as a sample of Mr. Snicket's theatrical reviews are also to be found here.
I should warn the reader that coming to this book blind will leave you scratching your head. You really have to have read a few of the Series of Unfortunate Events to appreciate what goes on here. For those who have been reading the series this book really becomes a part of it and helps flesh out, meaning to enlighten or make clearer, some of what has been going on so far.
For those loyal fans this book will be a hoot.

Summary: Funniest Snicket book yet
Review: The title of this book is a bit misleading. Don't expect to get the life story of Lemony Snicket- what you're going to get is a bunch of documents and photographs in the style of the "messages to the editor" that Snicket leaves in the back of each of the Series of Unfortunate Events books. This book is basically a collection of a lot of different sources that give you hints as to what V.F.D. might be, and some glimpses into the life of Snicket. This book DEFINITELY does not stand on its own... only readers of the Series of Unfortunate Events will understand it. In fact, this book would be a total waste of time even for readers of the Unfortunate Events series except that this book is extremely funny. If you're a fan of the past books, this one'll make you roll with laughter. And don't forget to take the jacket of the book off... there's even a joke involved with that. All in all, if you're an Unfortunate Events fan who can't wait for the next book to come out, this'll hold you over just fine.

Summary: cool
Review: this is a book by a very interesting and mysterious author, and the book is very interesting and mysterious as well. I think it was funny and captivating. You should get this book, and learn more about the author of The series of unfortunate events! :)

Summary: Delightfully silly!
Review: More delightfully silly fare from Lemony. Do we expect any less?
A must to add to your collection.

Summary: Fun, But Not Nearly As Good As The Unfortunate Event Books
Review: Fans who eagerly devour the Unfortunate Event books will surely want to add this "unauthorized biography" to their reading list. I love the Unfortunate Event books but found this to be a mixed bag. Laugh out loud funny at points, the book is less a biography of Snicket, and more a random dropping of clues and shaded revelations about the mysteries of V.F.D., Count Olaf and his associates, and of course the poor Baudelaire orphans. Also, the book seemed a little more complex than any of the series books, and it says right in the beginning you don't need to read it in any particular order. One of the more clever aspects is the satirizing of the Unfortunate Events books by having a replicated book cover on the back of the dust jacket. This series artwork, done to look just like the "Unfortunate" series is called, "the Luckiest Kids In The World". Clever, but I can't wait until #9 comes out.

Summary: It's authorized
Review: This is an authorized biography. Y'see, Lemony Snicket is not actually a real person, he's more of a character in the Series of Unfortunate Events. Daniel Handler is the book's real-life author. This is more like the next book in the series. It reveals more info about V.F.D. and who Lemony Snicket really is (Along with pictures). Are the Baudelaire's parents still alive? What does the eye of Count Olaf mean? Who is Beatrice? These questions are answered in this book (At least partially). An all-around hilarious and great read. Highly recommended.

Summary: More questions than answers
Review: As one would expect, this book leaves the reader with absolutely no answers to any of the questions that the Series of Unfortunate Events brings to mind. Having said that, this book is fun to read. I've enjoyed the entire series of books by Mr. Snicket thus far and am eagerly anticipating October for not only my birthday but the release of The Carniverous Carnival (when I will rush out and buy the book and read it within the first hour of getting my grubby hands on it). This particular book does not have a story, per se, but it does bring in more aspects of the mysterious web of events that surrounds the Baudelaire orphans(?). One of my favorite parts of this book is the reversible dustjacket that turns this book into one of those not-so-delightful happy children's books.. yuck.

The only thing that is nagging me about this book is that it seems that there (may be, should be, is?) more to it than first meets the eye. I can't wait to look back at it when I find out all of the answers to: Who are the VFD? Are the parental Baudelaires really dead? What happened to the Quagmire triplets? Are they now part of the VFD? There are a few more clues in this book... but are the answers there too?

Summary: A Puzzle, Not A Novel
Review: I should warn you before you read: this isn't meant to be read as a story. It is purely a puzzle, to give us things to speculate on when we read the Series of Unfortunate Events. It's a fun and funny puzzle, but if you haven't read the entire series it is probably very confusing.

Another good thing about this book is that whenever a new SOUE comes out, you can get a new perspective on the book, so it's fun to re-read it. ^-^

Summary: The secrets to all the other books
Review: I really liked the Unauthorized Autobiography because
the Unauthorized Autobiography makes the average person bored but the kind of person who looks over something will discover hidden secrets.

Summary: I am in Very Frightening Danger!
Review: I have my own little commonplace book--a very discreet 6-inch black one that would just look like a small school notebook. It was empty before I read this book (of course disguising it as "The Pony Party"--hooray for adorable ponies!), and then it was half-full of clues and secrets when I was finished.

You might want to try to read the books all the way up to #11 before you start reading this thing. It's chock-full of secrets and hints at why certain people want this author and his associates dead.

When I read the first book, I had no idea that such secrets would be hidden inside the series. Then I read his autobiography and realized just how in depth the books were.

Excellent read, very obscure. You will miss some secrets in the book if you haven't read all the tales of the Baudelaires, so look closely for some important things hidden here.
