Rating: Summary: An Expensive Joke Review: Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography is fun. Daniel Handler has created a series of photographs, letters, newspaper articles, and official documents that purport to lift the veil of secrecy surrounding Mr. Snicket. Of course, they do no such thing.Fans of the "Series of Unfortunate Events" will enjoy this volume. It incorporates episodes and references from the series, while adding new and confusing information that nicely supplements the other books. (Surely Snicket/Handler has included hints about future Baudelaire adventures in these pages). Any lover of "S of U E" should read it, but be warned: This volume contains nothing more than a series of interconnected jokes. There is no narrative or emotional current between these covers. Still, youngsters will enjoy the quirky pictures and creative artwork. Older, more serious readers will appreciate the coded literary references and linguistic jokes. But nobody will appreciate the volume's brevity. "Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography" can be read in less than an hour. Even if one decided to examine each and every picture with a magnifying glass, the pleasure remains short-lived. Sometimes good laughs come at a high price.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't stop reading!!!!!!! :-) Review: I was given this book as a gift because I love the Series of Unfourtunate Events. I found myself caught up in it and I couldn't stop. I finished it in one day and the book, of course, answered none of the questions asked. It was funny and witty, as all Lemony Snicket's books are, and I would like to comment that he is a very good author, even for his autobiography. You find inside some puzzles and twists regarding Lemony Snickets life. There is, of couse, Beatrice, and also V.F.D. It is really intruiging and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
Rating: Summary: Possibly my new favorite author Review: I know that The Series of Unfortunate Events seems childish, but just take the time to read them. They really are quite entertaining. And this new book, the unauthorized autobiography is just so adorable I can't stand it. I must say that these books have been most entertaining and I cannon stand the suspense that Snicket puts me through (if that is his real name). He makes me question everything, which makes me feel like a kid again, full of wonder. I hope all of you out there can appreciate what Snicket has done. If you don't know what I mean by that, you will once you have read his (or her) works.
Rating: Summary: The Unauthorized Autobiography is Authorized by Me! Review: Although it's a bit confusing at first, it's compiled interestingly and so suspiciously that you must keep reading it. It has so many things that could fill the mysterious initials, V.F.D. You will NOT be able to give up. The only thing is that Mr. Snicket (Daniel Handler) supplies you information about many characters encountered in A Series of Unfortuante Events and some information that you have to piece toghether yourself~ but it's fun alright, it's fun. After you've read The Unauthorized Autobiography, you'll be wanting The Unauthorized Autobiography II. It's totally worthwhile though, 300%!
Rating: Summary: The intrigue thickens Review: Although not an absolutely necessary companion piece to the Baudelaire saga, A Series of Unfortunate Events, the Unauthorized Autobiography of its author brings you closer into the strange world of intrigue, conspiracies, and kidnapped children that is the life of Lemony Snicket. Some insightful information into the links between Snicket, the VFD, the newspaper The Daily Puntilio, and Count Olaf and his associates become more apparent while reading through this almalgamation of newspaper clippings, minutes from meetings, telegrams and photographs. Still, the exact circumstances surrounding the connections between everything remain tauntingly hazy. The mystery seems all too real.
Rating: Summary: A Mindgame Book Review: This is definately NOT the first Lemony Snicket book you should read. It's a challenging puzzle, pieced together from different bits of information. I enjoyed the other Lemony Snicket books, strange yet interesting, and full of mystery. And they are definately for a reader with a sick sense of humor. This book pretends to answer many of these mysterious questions but raises more questions than it answers. It defininately makes me what to get the ninth book in the series, because maybe the questions will be answered. And then again.....
Rating: Summary: The best book ever Review: This book is so mysterious that it keeps you wondering and wanting more. The way it is written is spectacular and the little tidbits make the book so much more fun to read. This is the best book I have ever read and I would suggest this to anyone. But before you read this book I suggest that you read the Series of Unfortunate Events first, then a lot of the things that are written in this book will be more understandable.
Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece? Or a bunch of mishmash? Review: This was sort of an impulsive purchase for me. I had read the series of unfortunate events, and enjoyed them immensly, so i decided give this one a try. To say it simply- its confusing! It is full of documents, photos, letters, and a jumble of papers. At first I got mad and it was thrown into my pile of "YUCK!" books. However, curiosity got the better of me and I picked it up to read it again! I started realizing the connections everywhere! Its like a giant puzzle. Each chapter of the book, is related to a series of unf. events book. You will not know this however until you read it a second time! I garuntee it! Though not deserving five stars for confusion, it gets 4 starts from me for being an enjoyable mystery! Happy solving!
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but what does it mean? Review: For me, this book actually gave more questions than answers, but it's a must for series lovers. I reccomend reading at least 1-5 before reading this.
